Interesting analysis. I think I know why the catalyst is such a polarizing issue.

For me anyway, the catalyst is wrapped up in the issue of narrative coherence. If you fix the problems with narrative coherence, the catalyst disappears. The catalyst is simply a vessel to explain the issue of synthetics vs. organics to Shepard and to present the options available. However, the premise of synthetics vs. organics doesn't fit with the rest of the series. Get rid of that, you get rid of the choices as well (synthesis especially goes away, since it makes absolutely no sense). Get rid of that premise and those options, and starbrat goes byebye, or at least becomes something else actually related to the plot. Also, since VI's aren't shown to be telepathic, the form that the starbrat takes would have to change as well to avoid narrative problems. Change the form, change the dialog, change the options, and all you're left with is a machine interface of some kind that does something, which that I can live with.

Fair enough. But even more certain is: do nothing and nothing gets done. My wife says that - I wish it didn't include the house work though! :crying:

Thank you. Ofish put a huge amount of work into it. More will be coming soon - there will be a follow up to lead to (hopefully) something more concrete (no, I don't mean like as in bricks!) to get to Bioware. So hope to count you in for that one as well?
cheers

Dear lord you put a lot of work into this! Thanks for the detailed analysis. It must've taken forever but I love the clarity and professionalism it exudes. I hope Bioware takes a peek at it.

Agree - but the fact that Catalyst isn't such an issue for many and is a big issue for many others ie not a whole heap of people sitting on the fence, makes it difficult to see a way clear to 'solving'the issue. Yes, I'm in the boatload who wish the @#$%ing gun worked and that would be that, but then what about those who are OK with the Catalyst but really just want him (and his existence) make more sense? Your VI option has value, but that wouldn't I think satisfy those who want to engage in a meaningful way. Anyway - interesting thoughts. Must now go thunk more.
cheers
MikeC.

Impressive work - glad I took the survey. :)
Definitely a solid foundation for BioWare to base parts of the EC DLC on. If they want to and care enough to read this...

Great job putting that paper together. You should send a physical copy to BW in case they decide to ignore this thread.
