Cant stand Jennifer Hale's voice. its very annoying. imho a femshep isnt reallyh realistic, and just fan service to female gamers, and some dudes.

Oh, look, another mysoginist.

Like I've said they've been coming out of the woodwork lately. I think the warm weather is disturbing their nests.

Trollbait threads like this don't help, either. Posted Image

Same here, I always play as Man Shep.

I plan on doing a Femshep play through just to see the differences in content, eventually.

But I definitely don't understand this blue baby marriage obsession, to me I care more about the squad and the ME3 universe (when I was anticipating the ending) - a scene where my LI is hugging or whatever is more than satisfying for the romance arc.

So I've read literally hundreds of ending threads since I've finished the game and came here to find comfort in others that found the ending as horrible and devastating as I. After reading those, I've come to find a trend that I really don't "get".

Members on here seem to have an obession with FemShep and her romances/potential blue babies. It seems to me that more people prefered or played with a FemShep over a Male Shep. I'm a normal guy in my mid 20's and not once did I ever have the urge to play as a FemShep. I tried to have a mindset that I am Shepard so I picked a Male War Hero Spacer. I played mutliple playthroughs of ME1 and ME2 and once with ME3 and always played as a Male.

I can understand if you are a female gamer why you'd pick a FemShep, but if you are a male what is the attraction to FemShep? Is it because you don't associate Shepard as yourself, but rather just an observer and find the character attractive/appealing? Or is it something else?

Another scenario I've seen is the massive amount of guys who played as a FemShep and are borderline obsessed with the lesbian romances with Liara/Ashley (particulary Liara). Now, lesbian romances are fine, no big deal. And I understand that if you are a male and playing a female character you would more naturally want to romance a female character instead of a male. But in regares to the obsession, Ive seen the blue babies thread and for some reason it creeps me out. I think the fan art is actually pretty awesome and beautiful, but a lot of the comments leave me scratching my head. I'll try to explain my thought process here as well because I'm sure people will be confused why I have a "problem" with it.

So again, I always played a Male Shep and romanced Liara. I'd love for a happy ending where he goes back to his crew pops a beer open with Garrus and gets to bone Liara till' the end of time. If they wanted to throw in a cutscene where I see some Shep/blue babies that would be fine too, but I have no uncontrollable desire to see that like the people in the blue babies thread. And I say uncontrollable desire because thats the feel I get in that thread. Members actually post that they are crying at the fan art....really? Crying about something not getting put in the game? Are you being serious or just trying to get the point across that you really wish it was in the game?  I was deeply emotionally invested in the story line and got a little teary eyed during the deaths of Mordin and Legion among others, but NEVER would I cry over a FemShep holding a blue baby picture I saw in a forum. I just don't understand it. How do men cry/get teary eyed over pictures posted in a forum that refer to something that never got put into Mass Effect? That fact is what really bothers me because I honestly can't imagine a reason to why grown men would do that. And I know that sounds a little offensive, but it's not intended to be.

So could someone give me some answers to why this is happening and explain the reasoning behind the emotions/thinking. I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to understand. No idea why it bothers me so much that I had to post.

PS: Are there any other members out there like me who just played a hetero Shep all the way through?

I don't know why it bothers you, either. And I don't really care about your phobias. Certainly not enough to help you  analyze them.

That said. I'm a guy. I play femshep almost exclusively. I played two playthrohs to go through Ash and Tali's romances with manshep. But it's a torturous, boring grind, mainly because I cannot stand Meer's voice acting. It's like he spends all the games with the Rahni Queen speaking through him.

That said, his chemistry with Tali is VERY good  and easily the best work he's ever done in the series.

For that alone, Hale is Shep to me. Period.

Next, I'd rather look at a girl for 30 hours than a guy.

And, male space jock heroes are a dime a dozen. They are the cliche.

There are other reasons, but i'm a two-finger typist so I'm not going to list them all.

I wouldn't cry over femshep holding a blue baby, either , though I do appreciate the sentiment. RPers get invested. One need look no further than the rage over the endings to know that.

They think about it because their Shep and Liara mention it. They discuss it. And it's nice to imagine that payoff after all they've gone though.

I have no idea why you have an issue. Maybe you just have an inflexible set of qualifiers for "manly." If people don't meet them you get uncomfortable.

I'm a straight guy. Always have been with not a doubt in my mind.

I like Femshep. I also like going to Bath and Body Works with my girl and smell the soaps and candles just because it's time with her AND I like stuff that smells good.

And I'm a guy. Get over it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well done good sir. ^_^

Others said this already, but the blue babies are more of a symbol of what we were promised and what the ending took away.

Also, blue babies are cute.

I think it's just the femshep players are more vocal and the male players just don't care either way. I play maleshep but couldn't care less if I was forced to play femshep. I'm indifferent, though I can relate with maleshep more readily so I choose him.

Also i dont like heavily armored womans/girls, and military type of womans/girls. Squadmember girls are cool because they arent military type of girls, they are bookworms, nerds etc...
I play heavy story based games always with male characters.
But Fallout and MMOs where character does not really matter in game then i play both male and female.

Yikes, dude.

Don't like real women in the military either, do you?

Or women like Gina Carano who could beat you @ss?

Do women ask for permission to speak in your world?

I fixed your quote structure in my quote of yours as at first I though you were saying that, not quoting something. You might consider fixing it yourself or at least adding quotation marks around the poster your quoted.

as for what you quoted....I always wonder about the size of a dude's......."manhood"....when they say things like that. If I were a betting man, I bet that discrimination doesn't stop at women either.

Tough women in a lead role can be awesome, sexy as hell, badass, a leader, ect. I point to Kate Beckinsale's role in the Underworld series....sexy as hell, and badass. Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2....again, sexy as hell and badass.

Eh, I'm exact opposite, when given the choice of selecting main character gender I always make runs with both girls and guys as main, and have no problem with that. But then I'm a girl, and if I was in mindset that main character must be the same gender as me, for me to enjoy the game, I wouldn't be able to play many games [most have male hero with no customization].

I never make "myself" in the game, nor I feel that customized main hero is some sort of mirroring me in the game world. I make characters, I often get my imagination to go too crazy and give them various backstories. Then I play they stories, and pick the options most fitting to that personality idea behind them.

For femshep to be realistic, I think a lot of the story had to be re-written.

I mean this scene just looks stupid with femshep

I mainly played a Shepard I would prefer to see as canon, but I have played multiple times with different Shepards that stray far from my "ideal" Shepard.

There is just far too much in Mass Effect to experience with just one kind (or gender) of Shepard, IMHO.

Of course, it does when you have her in that ridiculous dress that she borrowed from Allers.

Otherwise it works fine.

IMHO, Hale's voice acting as Shepard is one of the best in the medium.

What I like about FemShep is that she is not a videogame babe or a girl. She is a woman. And it's very hard to see in this industry a female character who is not a oversexualized babe. Shepard is not a girly heroine, she is a soldier, woman, strong, passionate, vengeful, good or evil character.

I played videogames my entire life and saw only a few female characters as strong as my Andromeda Shepard, The Boss from MGS3 is one of them. For anyone who played MGS, you can see that there is clearly a huge difference between The Boss (a woman) and Eva (a videogame babe). Even Mass Effect shows this difference. I really love Jack, but she is, in her own way, just a videogame babe. Same for Miranda.

That's why I like FemShep. I even think that she kind of fit more as the hero of this story than BroShep.

my main gripe are those people who bash Mark Meer's voice, when he is great as what he does. To the guys who play femshep, because they want to look at a female ass instead of a male all the time, there is something wrong with them.

I always found it was my really strange friends who played female blood elfs on WOW. so i guess its a complex issue.

How dare male players, roleplay in an RPG. *shakes fist*

And of course the blue babie thing started in the DLC. Some people were kind of hoping for this in ME3.

Btw: Most of the female Characters in any MMORPG are played by men. This whole thing is not Mass Effect specific, a lot of male players enjoy playing female characters. It has nothing to do with Jennifer Hale.

I simply fail to see why she couldn't have had manshep's cool leather jacket over a tank.

Didn't wanna try to work out the boob physics, or what?

I don't think all that much should be re-written for femShep but that scene with Vega seemed inappropriate. I am all for gender blindness, but there are still some things that you just don't do....like males going into the female changing room, ect.

genders need to be equal, but we still need to recognize that genders are different. Humans are not Asari.

The equality is appropriate. Shepard is not some dainty flower, she is a space marine.
Hell, with her enhancements she's probably more resilient than Vega.

I personally applaud the scene. Vega does not treat Shepard any differently for being a woman, and Shepard sure as hell wouldn't want that.

So the women shouldn't "dance" Or he shouldn't ask?

Him asking is actually a great example of gender equity.

It's not like she can't say no. That and she's probably laughing inside thinking, "I kill Reapers for fun, until they kill me, then I just come back and **** up the Collectors because they killed me and I wanna keep from being too bored.

If you *really* wanted to dance with me you'd be spending the rest of the war in Huerta with Miri doing me the personal fave of trying to put you back together."

I´ve played both Sheps, and now I even have more FemSheps than ManSheps....
But I think I do prefer playing a ManShep more (I´ll do another 2 ManShep playthroughs when I got more time...).

And I´m not really that deeply invested in the characters/romances, I just want to see all (or most) scenarios!
