More dissapointing sequel? Dragon Age 2 or Mass Effect 3?

I am well aware of the weaknesses of Dragon Age 2. It is less tactical and expansive than DAO. But there were other reasons why I actually like DA2.

1. Hawke and his story was appealing,

2. The combat animations were more fluid (swinging mage stave like a boss),

3 .Blooming Rose was fun to visit.

4. The sequel found a more fitting tone compared to the messy, bloodsoaked mess that drenched Dragon Age: Origins (Seriously, everyone you came across was soaked in blood! More so than in DA2. Even blood got splashed on the DAO logo.)

With that said, and I know that this is the Mass Effect 3 room, I thought Mass Effect 3, as the sequel to a heavily applauded ME2 (In DA2 same position) was terrible accross all fonts. ME3 did everything wrong, in my opinion. One of the numerous reasons I cordially dislike ME3 was that the game took too many shortcuts. They cut corners in squadmate interaction. They cut corners in the endings. They cut corners presenting Cerberus as a major atangonist, (Despite some dissagreements, The Illusive Man was an ally to Shepard. No villain would bring you back from the dead just to betray you.) The only improvement ME3 made was the combat and inclusion of multiplayer.

Also, ME3 was undeniably, unquestionably, uncool. And terrible, too. Through everything ME3 failed in, the negative reaction it illicited, and all the gay sex, ME3 will alwaysn be remembered as a shameless sequel that made head-scratching and hair-pulling decisions of closing an acclaimed trilogy. Remember how everyone thought End of Evangelion was just the weirdest, most off-color ending to the Neon Genesis Evangelion series? Yea, everyone turning into orange tango was not much different than the Synthesis ending, all it was missing was the Jpop soundtrack. Oh wait, am I hearing the Faunts?

All in all, Dragon Age 2 may be an inferior and dissapointing product when compared to the original. Yet, the changes made for Dragon Age 2 ended up being appreciated by some, including myself. ME3 introduced inappropriate concepts for the sake of reaching the minimum quality. That is why ME3 is a more dissapointing sequel than Dragon Age 2 was. If Bioware needs to restore the fanbase's faith in the quality of games they can make, Dragon Age III is their ONE CHANCE.

Note: I know people are going to ignore this post just because they don't see any registered game content accolades underneath my picture, either that or this post is too long. I tried my best with the formatting! Okay! So, reason being why I don't have any games registered because my previous account got banned. I deleted it, forfeitted the accolades, and started a new one. But it's not like I had any accolades to begin with. :P

Circumstances precluded me from following the DA2 product development. As a result I played the game a long time after hearing about all the negativeness surrounding it. I thought it was a good but not great game. I have no idea how they were hyping it during development so I can't comment on that.

With ME3 I was paying attention and thought the game was going to be totally different from what it was. It was also the third game in the series of following a single character through the end. So of course ME3 is going to be a greater disappointment in my eyes.

Dragon Age 2.

That game killed my love for the franchise. Mass Effect 3 was excellent until the end in my opinion.

Why was the gay stuff one of the "bad" bits? I think they handled it well. Steve is a guy who happens to be gay, not a gay guy, same with traynor ( althought she was abit more shameless... hitting on edi and allers..)

As for which is the worst sequel... I'd say DA2 only because it came off as more of a spin off than a direct sequel. That's not to say I didn't like it, I really like alot of the changes they made, I always found DAO combat to be boring. DA2 reminded me of jade empire, in the fact that it was a good idea it just needed more (some of the powers didn't need to be "powers" they should have been charged attacks combos etc). The story is less focused, but I love the dialogue and the third Sarcastic/Charming/Witty dialogue option, especially for a rogue.

For ME3 they could have changed less. Keep the new combat, and crew wondering around, but less auto dialogue and like many have said I miss the whole walking around in armor never knowing when a fight might happen. Or at least let us carry a pistol and have some minor skirmishes ( we had shields in that "ballistic" vest outfit right?).

DA:Kirkwall is not a sequel. It is set in the world of Thedas, and makes references to characters from DA:O.
ME3 is a sequel. It continues the story of Shepard and crew mates from 2 previous games.

Umm, thanks for sharing your comprehensive criticism of ME3. It's uncool. Right.
It's too bad your homophobia has prevented you from enjoying the story and combat in ME3. Your parents shouldn't buy you DA:3.

ME3, but only because of the ending.

Mass Effect is still one of my favorite trilogies, if you forget the ending.

DA2, ME3 was great for the most part, one of the only games that made me feel.

and all the gay sex,

Because you couldn't pursue homosexual relations in DA2, right? That was only an option in ME3.

Neither, I felt they were both improvements (over all) from their predecessors.

Wow seriously? You mean the completely optional content that is not forced on you at all. Grow up and get out.

DA2 was a terrible game. However, I wasnt really anticipating it nearly as much as ME3 so Ill say ME3 was more disappointing. That ****ing ending killed the replayability of the whole trilogy.

So wrong on all points save the ever popular ending. If you like being wrong thinking ME3 is terrible you go right ahead. I'm going to leave now to wash off your idiotic opinion.

Yeah I didn't notice any gay sex on my ship.  I guess you'd like three greased nugs better?

You guys are not being fair. They were both good games, but you can only name one thing that really killed it for you.

Dragon Age 2: They dumbed down the gameplay mechanics. In my opinion, big deal. I play games for the story.

Mass Effect 3: The ending?. Maybe the gameplay if(again) you're that nit picky with that.

They were both beautiful games and I still regret the cancellation of the DA2 DLC

IMO DA2 was terrible. It was so insanely boring with its garbage plot, and button masher combat

ME3 was good but it had problems. It was WAY too short. I got the best ending with MP and I still took less time than I did with ME1/2. The questing in ME3 was really poor IMO. Some were good but most of the quests were nothing but scanning.

ME3, because DA2 did new stuff with its IP, which was rather enjoyable. If only they dared to revamp the whole combat system instead of consolifying it in a failed attempt to make it faster-moving.

ME3 instead chose to excise things that were debated about the previous games... and left gaping holes.

DA2 is more comparable to ME2, in fact -- it's less about the megaplot and more about the people inhabiting the world, having lives outside of your hero's actions (even though they could've paid a bit more attention to the fact that nobody ever buys new clothes for seven years unless you sleep with them, or that those corpses in Fenris's mansion are apparently furniture, etc), and that the hero's own life is explored in actual detail.

I found DA2 to be more fun to play than DAO, mainly because I didn't feel like I'm having to make detours the size of Greenland to get from point A to point B. The changes to the dialogue system were fun and while not innovative (Alpha Protocol did it first, in fact, you could just go ahead and call DA2 "Alpha Protocol: Dragon Age Edition" for all the stuff that was borrowed from it), we certainly expected them to make an impact on ME3's dialogue system, seeing how DA2's was based on ME2's. Fat chance.

About the only thing ME3 learned from DA2, it seems, was the squad interaction and the "loose romantic ends" effect. After searching fruitlessly for an option to get Jacob and Miranda back together in ME2 (or, barring that, getting Kasumi to jump Jacob's bones), I was pleasantly surprised when Isabela and Fenris hooked up =)

Through everything ME3 failed in, the negative reaction it illicited, and all the gay sex, ME3 will alwaysn be remembered as a shameless sequel that made head-scratching and hair-pulling decisions of closing an acclaimed trilogy

Did you miss the part where DA2 received unilateral scorn for its "forced gay content"? I really liked how most of the people bashing it for Fenris or Anders coming onto a Male Hawke quoted situations that would only occur if Hawke reciprocates or makes the first move =) Compared to that, the homophobia surrounding ME3 was extremely tame, IMHO. In any case, that's an element (and a reaction) that was shared by both games.

Or maybe that's how it happened on this side of the Iron Curtain, I don't really know =)

1. Dragon Age 2 will always be considered the sequel as long as that number "2" sits at the end of the title. Bioware even advertised it as the official sequel, but call it what you want.

2. If you were a brony, you would catch that illogical fallacy "undeniably, unquestionably, uncool" was actually a reference to a Rainbow Dash quote. I'm sorry you didn't think it appeased to my comprehensive critisicm. Don't believe me? Here's the link:

3. Homophobia wasn't actually a term until 1969, when it was coined by George Weinberg in a May 23rd, 1969 edition issue of a weekly pornographic tabloid called Screw. The values of civilization will continue to follow through decadence as long as it's media and propaganda seeks to administer to the men who seek the same level as recognition actual social classes do (ethnic minorities, poor, rich, African-Americans, Asains, Caucasions, Americans, Hispanics). If you think people saying that they dislike gay sex is considered a form of homophobia or hate speech, people saying that they dislike beastality will be considered hate speech as well in the future. I wonder what they will call that? Beastiphobia?

4. I pay for my own games, but I guess my parents buy a game for me for christmas and my birthday sometimes.....

To be honest, I actually liked DA2. Because I play on console I actually preferred the new combat (DA:O combat on console is annoying), and I thought the characters were as good as the first game's. Sure, the Act 3 plot was weak and the repeated maps were a pain, but overall I enjoyed it.

Whereas ME3, well, the ending pretty much destroyed the whole game for me.

DA2, that game was a low production mess. ME3 was redeemable with a few minor modifications, DA2 would have needed a ground up rebuild.

This. The op acts as if what he is saying is fact. Its laughable. Arguing about these things is entirely pointless. Me 3 was in my opinion, a fantastic piece of work as was the rest of the franchise. Its hard for me to even enjoy other games right now, now that its all over.

You're comparing disliking what consenting adults do in private with disliking the abuse of animals. You need to grow the hell up.

Mass Effect 3. My only beef with Dragon Age 2 was the repeating levels and that never left me feeling so bitter and resentfull towards a gaming company.
