easy, there are in fact several scenarios:
1. you try hitting the thing itself and you simply just miss
2. you spot two primes coming. you grab the missile. fire. you hit the hunter in front of them. okay, you fire again and hit the other hunter in front of them. sigh. you fire again and kill the primes

And the host/server disconnects during the final evac (I had once a dc at 0:05, just imagine the pain! )

That awkward moment when you filter to get Geth on FBW on Gold. Join, put Disruptor III, Shoutgun rail amp, stabilizier upgrade and press join as others are ready only to realize that it was Unknown enemy at Unknown location on Bronze -.-. Needless to say I rocked with my Krogan Vanguard.

Half of team dies on third wave (silver, geth, glacier). Manage to get the third objective, third team member dies, only have two hunters and one trooper left and can't quite manage to take the hunters down because I forgot to equip a carnifex instead of a phalanx on my not played for weeks human sentinel and they kept tearing my shields down before my biotics recharged.

I tried shooting a couple of primes with a rocket launcher and comlletely missed twice. I got a hunter and pyro with the two shots. It made me feel bad. I always shoot the ground next to them now.

Oh, having two Atlases coming up the corridor in Firebase: Dagger gold on wave 11. I equip my rocket launcher, aim at the floor in front of the first one, my hand twitches a bit right as I click LMB,and the rocket ends up shooting between both of their legs and getting a couple of guardians and I think an engineer trailing behind them.

I agree missing a rocket is probably the most awkward thing I can think of.

The second would be playing a vanguard and dying in a bad place - the whole team now assumes you're "that vanguard". Very awkward.

you go to sprint away from that banshee/brute/phantom who's about to vaccuum punch/curbstomp/shishkabob you, but end up in cover, dodging, rezzing a teammate, or basically anything other than running the **** away to a safer spot to fight from.

just a guess, but...

first missle hits a cloaked hunter instead.

second missle flies through the prime's legs.

third missle hits a pyro who was luckily close enough to the prime for splash damage.

Happened yesterday: A tired (real world-wise) team of battle hardened veterans (combined N7 around 3500) decides to take it easy against geth on FB:W. We fail the mission on wave six because we simply forget to take out the person of interest, a lonely rocket trooper who idled too long at the spawning point... Still makes me smile

My awkward moments are often when team mates go down with several enemies approaching. What do I do? Revive him/her first? Focus on the enemies first and hope it won't be too late to resuscitate afterwards? Often I am so torn between the choices that I end up using too long time to decide and I die myself because the enemies are upon me.

My team went down so I had the fight the rest of wave 9 on my own with Batarian soldier. Eventually it was just me and a phantom left. I used ballistic blades, broke her sword, then showed her how strong my pimp hand was. Then, one my teammates excitedly yelled out, "He broke the swoooord!!" Which was met with painfully awkward silence.
