Captain Tunnelvision
The Captain's targets go down fast, he uses his powers right, and knows what cover is. Great. If you die in front of him, he'll res you in a trice. Awesome. Same goes for any objective that appears in front of him. However, he is totally unaware of anything which happens outside of his vision-cone. Screaming Banshees rapidly teleporting to the room he's in? He doesn't notice until he's sync-killed. Horde of Geth took the back way? He continues to snipe out the window whilst you desperately attempt to fend them off. You die to an unlucky shot just behind him? Don't expect a res unless he turns around for some other reason. Does he play with the sound off? Is he permanently stuck in sniper-zoom? Is the "hit direction" indicator broken for him? You'll never know, just know instead that if you want him to help with something, it has to be in front of him!
I think I am The Unlucky Charm myself, a lot of the time. I've seen most of the other archetypes plenty often.

This recluse player is much like the sniper. Mostly your wondering where the *bleep* they are during the match yet every time you check the scores theirs is some how right in the middle of the pack. They truly shine during the later waves with multiple boss dudes that like to kung-fu grip you or play chef with your guts. Upon said kung-fu grip and your hopeless cries for a savior you hear a single shot ring out. Suddenly you are free and running away only to catch the shadow of the unseen hand which just saved your life for another few minutes. You know they are there and watching over you but still, you cant help but wonder if it were an act of (insert religious icon here) or just that they like you.

This fellow wants to be every where at once doing everything.
They sprint off to start the game, possibly screwing up the spawn strategy of the rest of the group.
When the hack objective comes around they sprint to the hack zone 1st to activate the hack and then proceed to sprint away to 'draw away fire' They will sprint to the pizza on a delivery mission and run past the person also going there to get it. They then proceed to take the circumploar route to the delivery zone stopping or going out of their way to fight enemies that are no threat to the delivery. On the 4 hack objective they rush to the objective ahead of the other person rushing there but they will stop short to let the other person do the hack while they fight. They will race across the map from a hack zone to rez the lone wolf doing his own thing.
At extradition they race to the LZ drawing companions with them and then race back to the best fighting point, dashing from possible spawn area to possible spawn area.

The Savior
A player left at wave 2, but you have been holding out 3 people until now. Each wave moved closer, and you would eventually be overrun. You all knew this, but no one mentioned it. It is now wave 9, and as I lay here, drawing my final breaths, the Geth amass around the soon-to-be corpses that were once the squad. “Abandon all hope ye who enter here” is written in blood on the inside of the counter that was once our last line of defense. Suddenly, from the landing pad, a trail of fire across the sky, a mind-shattering explosion, the enemy falls by the hundreds. Help has arrived – wave complete!
I actually did this last night with an N7 Destroyer. It was glorious.
Had one of these moments a while back with my SI. Been running around in Captain America colors ever since...

If Mass Effect was a movie, this guy would be played by John Cleese. He has some sort of hideously bizarre combination of class, mods, and weapons that you would never possibly allow in a normal game, but you were desperate to get going so you let him join. He then proceeds to clean up the entire map and make you all look like chumps despite being armed with a combination that no sane, rational individual would ever choose. You later try his build and do predictably terrible with it, then spend the next half hour wondering how he was able to pull it off.
Yup.

A variation of the Trooper, but with a voice and a great sense of humor. He waits until everyone is ready before he chooses his class – the one that compliments the squads powers the most. At the end of wave 3 it is clear to you that your life will not be complete before this guy in on your friends list. Even if you wipe on wave 6 the fight was still well worth it. After a failed mission, he doesn’t rage quit like the 2 others - he suggests another map and/or enemy, because he is sure that it will work better.
The Charger
Plays human vanguard, krogan soldier or something similar. Depending on the level of difficulty, playing with this guy is a very different experience. On Bronze you can safely go make a cup of coffee while he is compensating for his erectile dysfunction. On Gold however, he is more effective serving as a mobile shield for the enemy, as your no amount of armor penetration will allow bullets to penetrate him - as opposed to what the enemy would otherwise be hiding behind. Expect him to save more lives than he will be taking, requiring a lot of revivals. On later waves, he being killed is actually a relief, as you can now hit the enemy instead of him.

Never more than a few feet away from you, and I will run across the entire map to revive my fallen comrades. If they are curb stomped, I will bring forth hell onto the very enemy who thought it wise to execute my squadmate.
