You first have to establish they were straight. Not being interested before ME3 isn't enough evidence.

Also why is it okay to have a thread supporting gay relationship in the game but can have a straight-only thread?

How would you establish it? By finding a piece of lore that says it.

Because the S/S crowd clamoured for Kaidan's preferences to be widened, and since his female fanbase wasn't large enough for marketing purposes, he was. Cortez and Traynor were brand new characters.

Ah yes, 'Artistic Integrity'.

Isn't Kaidan the only bi character?

Liara is a weird technicality, but she has also been bisexual from ME1 so that'd nullify her out of this.

There is a 'straight' only thread or rather opposite sex romnace thread, here you go!

Your other questions, not gonna get into!

Lets be honest, you hear about people who once considered themselves straight before turning gay or bi in reality alot. I dont see why a character in a game could not do this?

As for the exclusive characters, why not? It's a rpg, if people want that content let them have it. Besides, even if you dont romance them they're really great characters and dont force their sexuality on you.

I mean... if we compare Mass Effect to other large Bioware titles... the sexual exploits are tame. For instance, you aren't able to convince an NPC at a bar to have a four way with you, your LI, and an elf assassin. So, I am confused why this thread exists. Also, what you've literally wrote is confusing in and of itself:

"Also why is it okay to have a thread supporting gay relationship in the game but can have a straight-only thread?"

So you are confused because you are allowed to have both pro-gay-LI threads and pro-straight-only-LI threads? Your confusion confuses me because I am taking what you wrote at face value here.

yeah i hated this. I was totally ok with DA2 since it is mostly with new characters but shepard turning gay/lez was out of nowhere.

it pains me double that they screwed over the story while they bothered to put in same sex romance. they are not really related, but makes me wonder their priority and focus, too.

Technically not, you can play a gay Shepard from ME1 if you want. You just have to have blue balls until ME3.

And I mean... Femshep with Liara... that borders on lesbian already, no?

It is lesbian regardless of her technicality, you wont find a gay guy sleeping with Liara for example.

artistic integrity.  apparently, it's ok to protest the exclusion of same-sex relationships but it compromises the writers' artistic integrity to protest the ending.

catering to a minority must be really hard work.

I find it pretty annoying that they turned bro-Kaidan into a bisexual guy who has a crush on his old bro-Shep, and is quite vocal about it. It's completely out of character and feels forced. And if they insisted doing it so, they could have made it more subtle and not like: "oooooh are you flirting with me... oh wait, don't say anythin, let me have the illusion" or something along these lines, and not to mention the dinner which is pretty much a coming out.

No! Kaidan was a tough, honest but cool, laid-back person who was always straight up with you. And here he has this whiny, over-sensitive side to him which wasn't present in ME1. It's another retcon, and I don't like it. Why did they have to make the Shep-Kaidan friendship moments into hopeless man-crush scenes where Shep has to make it straight (no pun intended) that he is straight to Kaidan and loves him as a brother and real soul-mate.

Cortez is a different story. He is a well established and very lovable (being straight I can only say it form that perspective), friendly and honest character. While I was talking to him I always felt this older bro, younger bro wibe between Shepard and him. He is Shep's little brother. And hi is a kick ass tech and shuttle pilot.

Agreed.

Traynor was also really good character addition as well. I was totally taken back by Kaiden.

Did we play the same ME1? Being whiny and over-sensitive is Kaidan's defining characteristic.

I was also going to say this. There's a reason why people picked Ashley over him, despite the fact she's also unpopular.

Kaidan was called gay since ME1, tons of people said he liked m!shep and they killed him on Virmire because of that. But now the same people complain because he IS actually bisexual. Say no to him and stop being little straight male chicks.
