Did we play the same ME1? Being whiny and over-sensitive is Kaidan's defining characteristic.

Being a sensitive person doesn't equal being oversensitive and I don't remember him whining in ME1 at all. He only had a pretty bad childhood (being a testsubject of a human military program which accidentally made him become a murderer also) and has terrible migrenes (where are they in ME3?) because of his L2 biotic implants. This and the fact that he is considered being a freak in human society because of him being biotic make him a bit of a loner who tends to keep to himself, but after a while opens up to Shepard and shares his story and view on the world. I don't see this whiny.

You don't even have to say no to him, just lock in another romance before talking to him on the Presidium, and you act like bros again. Homophobia problem solved.

WTF are you taking about?
My Kaidan was a guy who had nothing new to say and nothing new to add, though not directly the reason it does add to the fact none of my shepards had sex with him yet and all but 1 that I don't intend to carry on from ME1 killed him on Virime, including 2 females.

Yeah it bothered me too...but eh, what can you do.
I have no problem with exclusively gay characters in game though; I just don’t like them changing pre-existing characters around...

Kaidan was called gay since ME1, tons of people said he liked m!shep and they killed him on Virmire because of that. But now the same people complain because he IS actually bisexual. Say no to him and stop being little straight male chicks.

I am female. I didn't ever get the impression he was gay in ME 1. (I play using Maleshep) It was totally unexpected, for me personally.

Also why is it okay to have a thread supporting gay relationship in the game but can have a straight-only thread?

If you're actually serious, then you remind of the Middle-American str8 people who might watch a crap-ass movie like "Valentine's Day" and then come away from it shaking their heads and clutching their pearls all because there was gay in it. But other than that, it would've been the best thing ever! Alas. Ruined for them, because somewhere in that pile of heterosexuality there was one gay couple whose interactions were tame, delayed, and tuned down just to make liberal str8 audiences feel good instead of for actual queer people's benefit. Amidst all the heteros going at it, a gay couple is the worst thing to ever happen to aghast Middle American eyes.

I could make a diagram tying this to your view of ME, but I'm not here to help you. So I'll keep it simple. Straight people don't get to claim everything for themselves at queer people's expense.

But you can still pretend you can. No doubt there are some dudebros around who will support you.

Hey chill out bro! I never found the gay wibe in Kaidan in the first game - I may be completely blind to this kind of thing, but still. I only complain because this is a huge retcon to me. It bothers me from a story-telling and character development perspective. It makes no sense and comes out of the blue. And lets face it: it was poorly handled. They could have made more subtle (after the established character of ME1) and in a more tasteful manner. And not like virtually Kaidan holding a board saying "I also like boys, and I have a crush on you Shep.". It's just plain bad writing.

same old straight/gay themed threads ?

people can't change their orientation just like that ? hmmm let me think. At my age, i've seen married men leaving home to be with a guy, without warning, I also saw a gay friend suddenly break up with his long term boyfriend to marry a girl and have kids. I think real life is MUCH more weird sometimes than videogames. look around you.

Technically not, you can play a gay Shepard from ME1 if you want. You just have to have blue balls until ME3.

And I mean... Femshep with Liara... that borders on lesbian already, no?

It is lesbian regardless of her technicality, you wont find a gay guy sleeping with Liara for example.

And not straight neither

I romanced Tali, who entered the story later in the game. And I have no homophobia: not a fan of the new "being gay is cool" trend, but never had a problem with gay people, especially on a personal level. I have two very nice gay friends.

What's it with US-Americans and sexuality?

There's something seriously twisted with a culture that doesn't bat an eyelash at the notion of simulated violence (including exploding heads) as entertainment, yet goes bonkers and declares a witch hunt if faced with an exposed nipple.

Seriously, if you need to complain, shouldn't it be the OTHER way around? Certainly, the sight of people being torn to shreds ought to be considered less savoury than the sight of two people deriving pleasure from each other's presence...

As for ******-, bi- and heterosexuality: I think it was only fair that ME3 finally allowed for a male-/male-romance.
I don't think hooking up with Liara as a FemShep necessarily counts as "bisexuality", as asari are a monosexual species that only bears a close resemblance to human female physiology, yet is in fact neither male nor female.

That's exacly what my friends said when I told them I found out I was bisexual. I was totally retconned!!!

Also, bisexual people don't give any impression since we are straight as well as gay, to think otherwise is stupid.

Being a guy, but the same to me as well. And I liked Kaidan as a character, that's why I kept him instead of Ash, whom I liked also, but cared less for her.

Alright bro, now you shouldn't take this that personal. We are not debating - at least me - the senseless straight versus gay issue. We are talking about an exact charater of the game lore. So lets not make it all personal, when it's obviously not.

This.

People act like characters switching (or expanding) their sexual preferences is character assasination. In real life I know of people that have varied sexual preferences, and who have switched preferences very suddenly. Does this make them a different person, or ruin who I thought they were? No.

Considering they didn't get rid of the option to romance Kaidan as FemShep, I don't see what the big deal is.

Kaidan was actually meant to be bisexual in ME1. Some of the dialogue was left.

Do I get that straight as a gay person. It does not matter what you do in life, because at the end everything will be surpassed by your sexuality? Cortez for example is always named "The gay only character" and not your shuttlepilot for ALL missions. Very growen-up attitude.

I don't make it personal but as far as I know there's no sexuality codex for the characters yet, so a character having a different sexuality from the one some people assumed is not out of the blue, since it happens IRL so it's literally realistic. Again, he's not gay, but bisexual so it doesn't retcon his interest in women.

And I agree with you that Kaidan romance could have being handled
better, with more cutscenes so it wouldn't feel so rushed but since it's not an integral part of the story, but an optional one, I'm ok with it.

edit: In fact, to me it feels that new f!shep/kaidan romance is even more rushed since they even say I love you to one another without a prior relationship.

I don't mind the presence of Traynor and Cortez, all though it would have been nice if some of the effort BW put into writing their romances, went into the ME2 romances, or Vega.<_< I was actually pretty disturbed at what they did to Kaidan, and I'm NOT homophobic at all. I mean:

1. It's a ret-con, no two ways about that, he was previously established as a straight character, with dialogue that implies the same. It sucks getting attached to a character and having them completely rewritten, it just breaks immersion.

2. They didn't do the same to Ashley, despite the fact plenty enough fans have been asking for FemshepXAshley.

3. I'd be horrified if my IRL bf turned out to be bisexual (all the "bi" guys I've known have come out as gay eventually). I know Kaidan is not real but it makes me uncomfortable nontheless.

4. They're shafting the female fanbase once again. Apparently BW thinks we're more of a minority than gay men. Can't we have one human male LI all to ourselves? They didn't even bother to give us a Vega romance as a trade-off. Instead we get more lesbian LIs. (Which are written for straight guys, not actual lesbians.)

5. They're just giving more reasons for Kaidan to be Virmired in straight guy's playthroughs, for fear of ninja-mancing.

I believe threads that support straight relationships woulnd't be a problem on the forums. A straight-only thread, where ******- and bi-sexuals are unwelcome, is most likely against the EULA and if BW/EA permitted it, they would most likely break discrimination laws that govern public companies. I am sure a gay-only thread will be shut down just as quickly.
