I want to write a create an item that lowers approval. I have been bitten by a bug where I talked to someone too much too early, and that closed out later dialog options. I understand if you can drive that person's approval below warm, then they open back up. I think this solution is easier and less fraught with potential problems than writing a script that resets the dialog options. Since there is a mechanic for lowering and raisng approval, I just want to tie the lowering part to an item. A hate potion if you will.
However, I cannot find where lowering and raising approval are actions you can tie to an item. Is there anyone who knows how to do this? If so, could you point me in the right direction?

I figured out how to solve my problem in the game (editing the save games), but I am still curious how I would do this function. I found a few mods that have +App functions, but copying a gift seems fairly straight forward. It is the -App function I am interested in. You can do it through conversations, it seems like you should be able to do it with a "bad" gift. Like giving the lamb bone to Morrigan. - well maybe that was a poor choice of words

Yes I suppose there should be potential for - App gifts, even if it's not particularly hard to make someone hate you through conversation. Perhaps they thought it might be too complicated that way? I know I like to reload quicksaves if my gifts don't end up in the right hands first time around.
Either way it could be possible to make a - App gift if they included such a value, maybe it'll show up when the toolset gets patched?

Much easier than creating a new item, you can do this from the developer console:
~runscript zz_addapproval X Y
(where X=a variable for each character and Y is the approval you want to gain.)
If you want to lose Approval, simply type a minus sign in front of "Y."
For example:
"~runscript zz_addapproval 1 -10"
would subtract 10 points from your approval with Alistair.
For the value "x" =
1 - Alistair
2 - Dog
3 - Morrigan
4 - Wynne
5 - Shale
6 - Sten
7 - Zevran
8 - Oghren
9 - Leliana

When I enable the console and then go in and try to use it, it won't deactivate and I can't get out of it without ending the task on DA. I have tried re-mapping the keyboard. Because you can't really see what you are doing, and it is buggy, I have decided not to mess with it.

The dirty pantaloons that dog finds would make a great 'bad' gift
