First and foremost, I apologize if this has been brought up
before or numerous times. Just a pain in ass to search if this topic has been
discussed, oh I tried, came up empty.

I have been playing Dragon Age 2 on and off for a few months
now and while there are some things that bother me, there is one thing that
bothers me above the others.

This would be how the dialogue comes out completely not what
you were expecting. I enjoyed in Origins it said right there in front of you
word for word what you will say. In DA2, you say something and it leaves me
staring at the screen with my mouth dropped followed by “Uh that’s not what I
wanted to say.”  OK, let me reload and
try this option, “Oh, bloody hell!”

Probably the best example of this is during the romance with
Anders.

OK, great, I can tell Anders I love him. (Clicks on the option)
Then you get “I never felt this way about anyone.” Then later (click on the
option) “I will always be here for you” but you get “I love you” instead.

I do not understand why the dialogue in DA2 has to be so
damn complicated. I see an option to tell a person to “****** off” it should come
out as such. I do not need a long ass sentence to explain that is what I am
saying.

Then there are times I do not get the option to say anything
at all the game chooses it for me depending on my personality. Here are two
examples that stick out.

During the quest “Enemies among Us”.

Anders: “When you talk to Ser Cullen, maybe down play the
blood magic angle we don’t need the Templars cracking down even harder.”

I’m sitting here thinking….”Oh! I can do that!”

As soon as I walk up to Cullen, my character just spurts out
dialogue with no option to choose what I want to say.

During the quest “Faith.”

Hawke: “Sister Nightingale says you must leave Kirkwall.”

Look, I hate the Grand Cleric with a fiery passion and me
being nice and saying she needs to leave is not in my characters nature. Where
is my option to choose to tell in that manner?

Having the protagonist speak in DA2 is nice; I am on board
with it. However, for the love of cookies in DA3 bring back the dialogue box from
Origins or make it better. I do not like not knowing word for word what my
character says and I do not like my character spouting out dialogue I have no
control over.

Thoughts? Opinions?

You are not alone. Some people like this paraphrasing and some people hate it. There has been quite a few threads on this topic in the past.

I think this type of conversation is here to stay for the DA franchise at least.

Bioware can keep the dialogue wheel, just add a box which pops up with what the character is going to say so we can read the full text. Deus Ex: HR did this:

Image IPB

They could even include the option to turn it off/on through a menu so everyone wins. They included an option to toggle helmets on and off (a rather minor feature) so they could easily include an option where boxes full of the words your character is going to say pops up when you highlight an option.

Smart suggestion:
A hidden bar that when you move your cursor on the certain dialogue wheel option, it appears above the wheel, shows the text of each option.
