To be fair - you made Wade close down the entire shop for at least Two days leaving Herren holding the bag when it came to customers.
Well, seeing if you pay him you gave him enough money to keep in business for a year, no, I really don't think that's fair. Now if you did the "ok, do it for free" line, then I can understand his antagonism. But 30 sovereigns? That's a dragon's hoard.
You figure he's losing a whole day's worth of business which may be more than the 30 sovs, plus orders are now getting backed up on top of it and its not so much whether or not you're paying him but the business he is losing and may lose in the future as a result of delays.
You seriously think he gets 30 sovs in a day? I would bet that the system is basically sovereign=Roman
denarii which was the payable wage to one Roman centurion for one day's work...which was more than triple what any workman could expect for a day's work. Even a well to do merchant would be dreaming to expect to see 30 sovereigns in a day more than twice a year.
There aren't that many people in the world that can
afford heavy or high-quality armor. Not even 1/10th the population. And not all of them are going to go to Wade. Most are going to go to the smith near them. Even if he's doing as well as he claims, 30sovs is easily enough to keep him in business for a year, and probably in luxury items too. And if you buy anything besides the items? He should be begging for your gold. Honestly, you're almost certainly the customer with the most disposable income he's ever going to get. And he runs you off?
I get it if you take advantage of Wade's dragon fetish. But if you pay for the work, nope. You've made his year by the standards of a medeival economy.
