If these quests are here to take the place of the mining/scanning minigame we had in ME2, I'm fine with it. If it's here to replace the exploration (landing on planets, discovering ships), it's a choice I can't understand.
Discovering things by yourself is probably one of the most important aspect of a Roleplaying game. And with ME3 I had the strange feeling that the game took me by the hand and told me everything...

I like them. They let you expand the game's Universe and help other characters without actually distracting Shepard too much from the Reapers War. Remember, the Galaxy is at war during ME3, there is no time to "socialize" with people.

I think they fit perfectly the game's atmosphere.

But main thing is we rpg-fans that love stories like to ***TALK***  to npc's not eavesdrop and accually engange in sidestorys/characters.

Hilarious!

@Priestly: Regarding ME3 and eavesdropping - On the Citadel, they were everywhere and basically the only way to do minor quests. Hardly any character interaction, and that broke the immersion for me. A little... variation.. wouldn't hurt. The interactions felt broken, compared to ME1. It felt a bit rushed and tacked on. They were interesting though, and I wish they were more fleshed out.

Agree. Plus if you were moving too fast the dialog would just run together (from the eavesdropping and other npcs or news stories on the citadel).  So you'd just see a quest blip pop up and  you'd miss whatever minor interaction was going in there.

But it's cool if you missed it bro.

All you need to do is fly off to a random galaxy and click one button, maybe fly a little and click one button and ping! You see a planet light up and then you scan and click one button and woohoo the item is magically in your inventory.

But wait there is a problem! All the items look exactly the same! Now what ???

Well I'll just tell the person where to collect there item and they can sort it out.

The best part is you can collect goodies and tell the person to collect it without even eavesdropping, or possibly even knowing they exist! How awesome is that!

Shep: Hey buddy! I have your toothbrush in the cargo bay... give me money and rep!

Npc: I didn't even realise I forgot to brush my teeth... *breath out and *sniffed .. thanks man!

I mean why not keep it, till you actually discover who needs it???

This system was so well thought out, thank you Failoware

Why not make a bulletin-board with video- or audio-requests on the citadel, this way you can have even dialogue with you clients. Some you can meet and some just transfer credits to your account.

As already mentioned, we had the same sort of quests in ME2.

So, if you believe that we cut content and are lazy... well... at least we're consistant.

It's true that you had the same sort of content in Mass Effect 2, but it is far more prevalent in Mass Effect 3.

It seems that the side-missions of the previous Mass Effect games were replaced by eavesdropping fetch-quests and multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. The fetch-qests are repetitive and boring, and the multiplayer mode has a tendency to be frustrating for a number of reasons, namely the random unlock system and the constant nerfs to the best weapons, powers, and classes in the game. My opinion on the matter.

BTW, check the links in my sig for suggestions on improving the single-player experience of ME3, if you're interested.

Those quests are simply lazy if BW is no more able do deliver complete side-quests with ACTUAL conversations and ACTUAL exploration then they better not doing it at all. Do it good or not do it at all.

But don't sell this for an innovative concept nor a traditional one (In ME1 were non-existent, in ME2 only a few and even those with actual conversations). This is simply laziness at his purest form.

Yes, sort of. In ME3 it was all over the place. So either you did cut content to match a dead-line or you were plain and simple beeing lazy. Consistant.

for me this was the single most disappointing aspect of me3. it's as if they weren't even trying anymore.

And I think this was one of the best parts of the game. There were "traditional" quests in the game, but having these"eavesdrop" quests were there for people who explored and paid attention.

That's ok, we all have to pay the bills, but off the record... C'MON MAN!

And "explored"? What was there to explore? The hospital level was a straight hallway. Docking port was an "L" design-or something. Really, at this point your defence of some of the worst aspects of the game is kind of comical.

The new Citadel is better designed, but way smaller than ME2. I call BS, if they think ME3 is bigger

I'm guessing bioware got the idea from the Final Fantasy games where you walk into a town and talk to NPCs. It's not a bad concept. I thought it brought a little more life to the Citadel.

I enjoyed following some of those conversations but like someone has already said, I wished it was fleshed out a little more than just hearing conversation, mining random planet, giving retrieved item to person.

Would have preferred it if for say the clerks on the Citadel on each level recognised you and then mentioned that people have been asking for help and they're swamped. So if Shepard found some time s(he) could lend a hand and go talk to the ones in need.

OP, AWESOME comic. Image IPB

But I agree. This was kinda strange, but it was OK. I wish they'd give you a slightly better idea of what you were looking for, etc., but I'll live.

With the Leviathon coming and Bioware stating there will new areas of the Citadel to explore. DO you think there will be more eavesdropping quests?

Yeah. Unfortunately, due to the awful journal system, annoying fetch-quests and poor implementation of content and quests on The Citadel as a whole, it's gone from one of my favourite locations in the other games to one of the most tedious, repetitive and annoying in ME3.

It's definetly bigger. The Presidium Commons alone is longer ( ie. it takes more time to walk  from 1 side to the other while visting every single area along the way )  than the Citadel in ME2.

All the ambient conversations in the background alos go along way to making the Citadel in ME3 seem more lively than it was in ME1 and ME2, it really is ashame that the basic execution of these 'eavesdropping quests' is so off that I walked away from Me3 feeling like the whole entire game was lacking in content.

First I thought that I had to scan, then land on the planet, retrieve the item.

Man I was sooo dissapointed in this. I like ME3 overall but they could saved a lot of time leaving these so called quests out of the game.

Yes, you had those kind of quests in ME2, but it was only 2 or 3. Now there's like 30 of them.

Just heard that Radical Entertainment is layed off and will end up as support for not being able to increase the audience by Activision. (With Prototype 2) Though it selled real good.

I support BioWare, but is it continues like this BioWare will become a support for DICE to write story lines I'm afraid.
