Still love this.

Thanks for reviving this, this comic is amazing :wizard:

The problem with this type of "quest" is the lack of interaction. I see why people think it's troublesome ~ you essentially don't even talk to them, only when you waltz up and say "hey I overheard your conversation and this is what you want", which is fairly happy for the people, but damn! I'd be creeped out if I knew how many people Shepard helps like this.
If anything was truly bad about it, it's that after the Citadel event, many of the quests are no longer possible to complete. Did the people who gave you the quest die or something? If so, then giving them their item doesn't really mean much, does it?

The whole notion that Shepard has the time to go out and find all of this useless crap is ridiculous. Especially when you realize that it only really counts toward your ultimate goal of finishing the literal deus ex machina.

Don't you know that if some soldier in WWII had only gone off to Tibet on some weekend and found an ancient statue and brought it back to some curator in London that the war would have been over SOOOOO much faster?

I just had to shake my head at finding artifact this or that, or some old book, all either in orbit or on some desolate planet or moon somewhere and it actually having any bearing on winning a war.  Say wha?:pinched:

Morale.

It just could have been far better executed.

I Had to do these quests. I didn't have xbox gold/MP.  I was scraping together every war asset I could find. The Earth quite literally depended on me finding those...pillars of strength, or whatever.

And then I never got to actually Land on a planet to retrieve the items. All I had to do was scan the planet  and trot back to the Citadel.

It was not fun. It was tedious. And the less than robust journal system just made it more frustrating for me. It made me feel like this:

The ambient dialogue in the CitdelI loved. A few eavesdrop scenarios woulda been fine by me.

But next time let me actually "do" something w/these quests. Let me Land and have a quick firefight. Something.

And I'm not saying this to stir things up. I just really hope they won't do this in the next ME. I don't want the next ME team thinking the system was sum brilliant idea. I would be upset if I had to go thru that again.

Tedious?  Please.  Nothing was more tedious than driving around the same three planet types in the Mako for hours looking for every little thing.

I'll take scanning a planet any time.

I will agree.  The journal in ME3 wasn't very helpful.

Yes, tedious. I'll take driving round in the Mako anyday over the one stop shop of the fetch quests in ME3.

At least w/the planet scanning in ME2, you could actually Land on occasion and do something interesting. I actually liked the planet scanning in ME2. But that's gone. too.

I found the fetch quests in ME3 tedious and boring as heck.

Honestly, the worst part of the eavesdropping side quests was having to leave the area and come back (or save and reload) just so you could hear the rest of the conversation. That's not a reward for exploration...it's a penalty.

You didnt have to do that. There was no fetch quest or mission related to her and in your visits to the hospital you would have heard her entire dialogue anyway.

How much of the story did you have to hear to get the option to give her a gun?

That was in the spectre terminal, yes. But you didnt have to go back and forth between the two places consecutively and immediately for this story to play through. You would likely visit the hospital anyway for other crap

Heh, I got so engrossed in her story I did just that...went back and forth to hear the whole thing.  Think about that for a moment.  They crafted a tertiary story that had NOTHING to do with the character that was so interesting we actually went out of our way in an annoying matter just to hear it!  Bioware has some crafty SOBs.

What's even more interesting is just how HER story jibes with something Joker tells you after Thessia...but to say anything more would be a spoiler.

I'm guessing the whole story, if you really want to give her the gun.  But if you do, check your war status afterwards.

But if you don't walk on her side of the room...where nothing else happens for the rest of the game...you could miss the whole thing...and those of us who are completionists just couldn't risk it.  So we had to leave and come back, or save and reload, until we heard all about poor Hilary.  Give her the gun.
