Ashley is actually at her best when combined with a soldier or vanguard.  Rolling two soldiers might sound redundant, but if you equip squad explosive incendiary and give her a Revenant (or particle rifle, but that gun almost feels like cheating), she can rack up an impressive body count.  James has the advantage of having Incendiary ammo on his own, but Ashley has much higher weapon damage boosts.  Combine her with Garrus, and everything just dies.  Just don't give them sniper rifles.  I don't know why, but squadmates are terrible with snipers in this game.

I had Ashley with Marksman and a Particle Rifle and she was insane. Inferno grenade is really nice too. I think she's better than Garrus.

Haven't used Ashley much and don't think I built her right when I did so I could be wrong about this. I tried using her with an adept to give squad disrupter ammo but it was just underwhelming. I don't like Grenade powers on squadmates because they never use them with he Q or E keys. And none of her other powers were as good as any other squadmate so she seemed quite a bit less useful than any of them.

EDI was better than I thought she'd be. I hated her Decoy ability though. Half the time I'd mistake the decoy for her and be like "why are you standing on that thing? That guys right infront of you, shoot him! Why are you taking cover in the middle of an empty space?" (not knowing that the real one was taking cover elsewhere).

Vega can get explosive incendiary. That alone bumps him up at least a tier.

To me it's Tali... Out of all the classes I played so far (Soldier, Sentinel, Vanguard and Infiltrator), she just doesn't fit well with any of my Sheps. Tali has low defense, her two drones feel redundant towards each other... and Sabotage is only useful against syntethics... which pretty much got mowed anyway by the other party members, don't even need to hack it into the first place. The only time she's useful imo is the three Geth Primes at Rannoch and she's compulsory for that mission anyway.

Ash is next but she's miles better than Tali. And at least she's better balanced this game when compared to Garrus. She hits harder even though she lacks Garrus' utilities. In ME1, I can never justify bringing her over Garrus who can do her stuffs + Tech. Unfortunately they both seems to die a lot in ME3 -_-...

Yes,its strange, since legion and zaeed were excellent snipers in 2.Even tried to give them black widows and their damage was pathetic. Rapid fire weapons are better for all of them except liara.(use cover more with a pistol and dont rush forward with pistols)

That is wrong. One evolution of sabotage increases tech damage by 100 percent for every enemy,so she is good for an engineer.(and have low cooldowns that edi didnt has)

Look at the underlined part of my post... never played as an Engineer :)

While that evolution of Sabotage is nice, we're talking about who is better than the other. Not saying that Tali is useless, can't do anything and should shove her down the dump. I just find EDI to be the better Tech squaddie compared to her. Heck I can't even remember the number of times I used Sabotage on my Infiltrator because there are better powers around. So when using Tali, how many times did you made her use Sabotage? Same like EDI and Tali, Tali is not bad but EDI is just better imo.

When I put both in the +Power Recharge armor, Tali does have a faster cooldown than EDI but at the same time EDI still boosts the higher damage (Overload VS Energy Drain with similar evolutions)... also Chain Overload. Both are good powers but I feel that EDI's Decoy and well-timed Defense Matrix are better than Tali's Sabotage and Drone(s). EDI's Incinerate usually kills those pesky turrets at one hit too. While EDI has lower shield and health, Defense Matrix is a beast when used properly imo (yes even for her).

There are all based on my experience playing as Soldier, Infiltrator, Vanguard and Sentinel. So yeah I will never know if Tali is better suited with an Engineer because I've never played one. But for even the half-Techs, Infiltrator and Sentinel... never feel the need to bring Tali or her Sabotage ever. I like "bigger", AR-wielding squaddies for my Infiltrator (James or Kaidan) and Biotic squaddies for my Sentinel... the others are still better suited for me than her too so unfortunately Tali takes last place for me.

Each squadmate has a weakness, but they also have strengths. it also depends on what class you are. i'm playing a sentinel on insanity and i find Ashley comes in handy because she has the powers i don't have and the weapons i don't carry. same with Vega and Garrus.

Sort of. This was technically the situation back in ME2 but it didn't mean all the squadmates were genuinely worth taking along (Jack...)

In ME3 though, I'd have to agree, there aren't really any squadmates that are genuinely superfluous.

I would say the *least* useful squaddie is Vega - all the others either have multiple CC and direct damage powers and have a better selection of weapons.

I'm a big Tali fan, unfortunately I never used her much as she always died quickly (kinda like Miranda in ME2 for me) and didn't bring much to show that EDI couldn't cover. Vega was rather useless for me too (although his gear was pretty awesome looking LOL)

I mostly base my squad on who is the most fitting in the situation, story-wise. So, fighting Geth = bringing Tali, helping Wrex out = bringing Liara & Garrus, the old friends, etc..

If you manage them a bit, they mostly stay alive. Though I must say, I have not done my run on insanity yet.

edi is good for finishing combos, but Tali can set them much better IMO with sabotage plus a player that knows how to make tech combos (both with tech and with ammo powers), I find her to be one of the best against cerberus and geth

In terms of supporting Shepard, for my Infiltrator character on Insanity, I found EDI to be the least effective. Her cooldowns just took way too long.

James might rank up there too. His survivability was awesome, but Shepard could handle damage output by himself- I needed a shield/barrier stripper, and/or crowd control, not a tank like Vega.

agreed overall effectiveness is all about which class your Shep is, for example Vega is amazing with an engineer, squad incendiary to better set up tech combos, and carnage to finish them plus bulk for tanking is amazing but put him with a solider shep and he's not nearly as good.

She may have been your favourite, but back in ME2 she was little more than a pull-bot. Shockwave was pretty unpredictable when being used by someone else, her ammo power was nice but realistically wasn't as good as Incendiary (or having Warp Ammo yourself) and her weapons sucked.

She was basically a weaker version of Jacob or Samara, depending on how you look at it. Not that this means she was genuinely useless, it just meant there were much better options available.

The difference in ME3 is that all the squaddies had some major redeeming factor that meant they all had a good trick up their sleeves.

Javik is a bit of a strange one. All his biotics and stats are orientated towards all-out offence - giving him a Talon pistol and a Particle rifle basically makes him a weird mix of Liara and Vega.

well hes supposed to be a vanguard of sorts, so a mix of combat and biotics. In my experience hes better at setting up biotic explosions (dark channel is amazing for that, at least when it comes to the speed that they can be done) but liara is better for CC.

Ashley. All she really has is her gun.

BTW Tali is hands down the best squadmate to take against Geth. Even against Cerberus she can be pretty damn useful.
