That's true, but not exactly my point.  If your wife ever asked you, "Would you marry someone else after I die?", say yes, and see if you're not going to get the evil eye for a day or two, and bed made on the couch.

Only if said wife has some serious jealousy issues.

I'm married, and if I were to drop dead tommorow I'd hope my wife would eventually move on and find some happiness. If you love someone you'd want them to be happy, not sitting in a dark room brooding over an old photo of you, long after you are dead and gone.

I honestly don't see this as an issue for Shepard. Liara may eventually have another husband or wife at some point after Shepard is dead, but that doesn't mean she loved him any less.

Thane is a good example. He can be potentially romanced by Fem Shep. That doesn't mean he didn't love the wife he had Kolyat with.(forget her name now)

I never thought it was a rude awakening. Actually, I thought it would be very cool to be an old guy with a wife that looks twenty something and very hot !!

anyway - true love would push me to make her promise to find happiness where ever she could...

Eh been there done that in ME1.

I stick with Tali thenceforth; of course that's only up until Shepard transforms into some bizarre deity. :S

Well she says at the beginning that asari just kind of accept it, must be hard though. What I think is more harsh realism is that shepard and liara won't be having children - Liara is too young to be up for that (at least by asari standards).

Its another reason why I prefer tali.

You forgot that Bioware did a bulldren retcon of the Asari only hitting matron stage at 350 thing, apparently it can be triggered earlier by frequent melding

I'm pretty sure that if Shepard romances Liara and dies during ME3, she will probably end up with Javik ASAP. I don't know how long Prothean lives though, so it is uncertain if that will or will not be a life-long commitment.

Wrong, Javik says he will commit suicide after all is over.

Yet, we see him standing in front of the memorial when Shepard's name plate is being added. He probably changed his mind after the whole "shocking events that ended the Reapers war" thing.

He only says that if you persuade him to use the memory shard. If you don't he says that he is looking forward to seeing what peace is like and that he is going to write a book with Liara.

Don't much care if I had a wife that outlived me in real life I wouldn't be happy thinking shed just pine away over me the rest of her life. Especially if that's about 900 years or so. I think some of you folks are a bit well ... deluded about how the world really works. I mean honestly how many women these days get married without having a rather healthy sex life beforehand? I mean yeah no one wants to get a "blow by blow" account of their missus's sexual history but if you think love is some kind of magic made in the stars and everyone is fated to be together and exclusive forever then you just need to get out more. And as far as after I am gone I would wish her the best. Though I would hope she would at least remember me fondly ;)

You know, hypothetically speaking, since we know that Shepard's cybernetic implants allow for the enhancing and maintaining most of their regular systems, whilst their ability to process toxins is shown in the Arrival to be constantly increasingly and evolving...

Is it not theoretically possible that Shepard's potential lifespan might be doubled as a result of their partially synthetic nature? If normal humans can live for over 150 years, I don't see why, as long as Shepard's vital organs are maintained, why they couldn't easily live far in excess of that?

So they'd definitely have more time with Liara, which is not so much a bad thing.

Everyone has different attitudes towards handling death of a spouse.

I'd like for my significant other to be able to find happiness without me if I passed. I don't believe it diminishes what she felt at that time and what our bond meant. Hopefully she would move on, but never forget.

Some people might have a harder time and range from those who see other people but never commit again to those who simply just shut out that part of their lives forever. There really isn't a right way to go about it, just what you feel like you are capable of handling.

But for those who would be mad if their spouse found love or at least another person's company after your death, my advice would be not to date an asari.

It's up for interpretation.

She does say "I'm yours" before you run off to die. Take that however you wish.

And she have to live knowing she'll outlive those she loves. Some asari sees their long life span as a bit of a mixed blessing, including Liara.

Maybe... I'd like to think Shepard's loss is what turned Liara so cold

Husband here, Much the same way I'd hope my wife would find someone else and be happy if I died, my wife has instructed me to find someone else if she died. Because we love each other and put each others happyness before our own sense of of posessiveness.

Sheesh people, which is more important, your partner's happyness or your ego?

So yes, in Mass Effect I'd _want_ Liara to find someone else after my Shep, I'd want her to feel loved and be able to love for the remainder of her life, because that's what she gave to my Shep. I can't believe this is even a question...

Not so much of an ego as Liara can far outlive your lifespan, whereas you could grow old in a relationship with one of the others.  That you'll only be a chapter in her millenia long lifespan.

Asari live 1000 years naturally, Liara is only 106 or so.... do you think you'll be her last? Think Shepard will be the last person she says she loves or marries, or has children with? The rude awakening is she will probably marry and love 8 other guys, sleep with 100 other men, and forget all about you 800 years from now, before she finally bites the dust.

Just thought since everyone else was speaking to me realistically, thought I'd do the same.... overall speaking, is it worth romancing her when looking at the big picture? lol

Suppose it's the notion of You knowing "Many" Men are going to put their thing in your wife when your gone;

frankly speaking I'd choose someone to grow old with, so any of the other LI

Firstly, people like you are the reason why I think the idea of "true love" is so terrifying.

So yes, what you say is true. Only problem is that it's not unique to Mass Effect with aliens - you could get hit by car tomorrow, or die from an undiagnosed aneurysm, or any number of other things whilst you and your partner are in your 30s. Your spouse could easily outlive you by 50 years - more than 3 times your adult lives.

Do you not think that they might fall in love again? Get (re-)married? Be happy again? What you are saying is that you don't want them to do any of these things. You want your spouse to mourn your death and be unhappy for the rest of their live just so that they'd stay "faithful".

So yes, I am OK with my partner outliving me. I am OK with my partner finding love and happiness if I happened to die first. I'm not a possessive jerk like you.

No, what I'm saying is why choose Liara at all?  It's like if you were 80 yrs old falling in love with a 20 yr old since you like comparisons so much and even those ratios are kind
