I mean, the average Qunari soldier as it is are supposed to be superior to a Human or Elf... The Beresaad are supposed to be the Elite of them, hence the Arishok obviously thought that sending 7+1 would be enough. So seriously, a small horde at Lake Calenhad can own and KILL the Qunari Vanguards?
The Qunari are supposed to be fierce warriors, right?

So how the hell can 7 of the Beresaad which are supposed to be the Vanguards of the Qunaris get owned by a small horde of Darkspawn? They all died, except for Sten... which is quite sad(not sorrow, sad as in pathetic)...

They were just a scouting party, not exactly the vanguard. But I *was* seriously tempted to tell Sten, "You suck" at that point.

The darkspawn ambushed them while they were at camp, so some of them were probably asleep.
Also, lorewise, Darkspawn can easily ambush and overwhelm non-Grey Wardens as they can literally come out of the ground, and only Wardens can sense their approach.
I know gameplay wise this means jack all since Darkspawn ambush you whenever they please and they do it by charging along the ground so they can get picked off.

They were only level 1 at that point

Could also be that they had the terminal bad luck of being ambushed by a band of Hurlock Omegas, and as we know Qunari are all warriors. No mages in the Beresaad.

The blood is still toxic for non-wardens so the more they kill, the more envenomed they become.

Yeah they were the scouting party, but all of they were members of the Beresaad, so I would assume they're a handful of the elite Qunari...
What the other user said about them being all Warriors, a couple of Emissaries or Omegas might have given them some problem...

Didn't Sten say that they were sleeping or something? That the Darkspawned attacked their camp in the middle of the night?

Ah yes, and that too...

Knowing Sten's luck, it was probably a swarm of Ogres or something.

The Genlocks were wielding tier 5 plothammers.
Either that or wizards did it.

Me, I'd take Ogres any day over a pack of Emisarries/Omegas with their fireball spam and that goddamn Curse of Mortality crap. If you don't have a mage with forcefield handy kiss your butt goodbye on that one. >_<

I don't think the Beresaad do rogues much either.
It's all heavy armor and big 2 handed weapons for them it seems. And they wonder why they can't conquer anything other than a tiny island.

Not a red letter day in the history of the Proud Warrior Race Guys, but we didn't see it, so maybe there was an explanation.
To Sten, a "small band" of Darkspawn might mean five hundred Hurlocks and a few dozen Ogres...or maybe they were all incapacitated with gutaches after gorging on chocolate chip cookies...
ehh, I got nothing.

They were sleeping scouts with no warning of the massive attack. Doesn't sound like much of a win situation for the scouts.

That's cause they think they're the best at everything.
