The ME2 LI treatment bothered me more than the endings, really. At least if only the endings were my problem, I could play through the first 98% of the game happily, enjoy an awesome experience, then just stop playing before the final ten minutes. If the ME2 LI's had gotten satisfactory content, I could join the ranks of the Liaramancers and the VSmancers and the Garrusmancers, who have only the endings to protest, only the endings standing between them and a perfect game experience.
Instead I sit over here knowing that even if they wave a magic wand and salvage the endings, my experience will still be missing a crucial element that is quite unlikely ever to be fixed. Big bummer.
What's more, everyone seems to want the endings to be readdressed, while not many people probably care whether Thane fans and Jack fans and such got gypped. It's a complaint that doesn't get a whole lot of validation, because they are, after all, just romances.
^^This. As much as I loathe the endings, and find them to be poorly written, the Thane thing bothered me more (and, to be honest, Legion's death bothered me as well because it was so contrived, stupid, and pointless, and it is obvious that the only reason Legion died was to kick the player in the gut some more) because the writing for it went beyond poor and into atrocious. That they admitted that they flat out forgot the character, honestly, pissed me off. They retconned his character (since if you romanced him, he no longer wanted to die, which means he'd have sought help for his disease). Matters were made worse by the fact that Shepard was almost completely auto'd during scenes with him, and what she said/did was not representative of what my Shepard would've done. And the hospital grinding was in poor taste, to say the least. I was appalled that they put such crap in the game and had the gall to call this game "brilliant".
The ME2 characters were treated like utter crap, which is bad, but the way the Thane parts played out (and the Jacob "I'm a stereotypical horny black dude who knocks up women and can't stay faithful!") was flat out unforgivable. It needs to be fixed - and, along with it, the way they overdid Shepard autodialogue in many scenes - just as much as the ending needs to be fixed. They broke the narrative, ruined character development, and took away our control of the damned character we've been controlling since ME1 came out just so they could make a "dark, deep story". It isn't right.
