I've never encountered someone "outraged" by the endings legitimately.

I'm fairly new to this (just finished ME3 last week-ish) so the pain is still fresh. I guess it all depends on the definitions: I'm not outraged in sense that I'm throwing stuff or babbling incoherently; but I am mad enough that I haven't even wanted to look at my 360, or the ME3 box sitting on my shelf.

As to why I specifically still haunt these forums (can't really speak for anyone else)? It probably has something to do with that 'echo' effect you speak of. It's cathartic to vent with other people who had felt the same, or still do feel the same, in a place where--while maybe not realistic--it's possible someone in BioWare reads stuff in an "I kinda see where you're coming from" way >_> And, I still have fond memories of previous BioWare projects such as Baldur's Gate, KotOR, Jade Empire, and ME1 and ME2.

Oh, and I've found one person at work who hates the ending, and another who is "on the fence" as he likes to say (it wasn't a good ending, but he doesn't "hate" it enough to vent).

It's a little embarrassing to be grouped into this mob of "fans" when I mention I'm unhappy with the conclusion of the trilogy.

That should tell you how polarising it all is.

I have had the same experience.

You can't not be dissapointed with out being lumped in with everyone else on this side of the line.
I've often been held to "account" for the stuff people are saying and doing online to get the ending chaged by my Rl friends.
Why becuase as they put it i am dissapointed with the end and i have let that be known. Effectively saying we know what side of the line your on.

To put simply
People who are dissapointed with or wants the ending changed are not being taken seriously , because of the prestige of the medium with which thy are epressing their view.
Not because of the validity or the lack of in their argument.

So a polarising view with line drawn into the sand, people getting lumped together into these amalgous blobs on either side.

resulting in:
"You don't like the ending , go file another FTC complaint"

My best friend is only person I know who was pissed to the point of cussing and ranting when I asked him his thoughts on it. Almost everyone else I talk to about ME3, the ending comes up and their whole mood just changes like they deflate. They just sigh and shake their heads or something lol.

A couple of them I've actually sat and talked through the issues we had with it, the rest just say it doesn't make sense no use trying to make sense of it. I know zero people who actually like it,

*reads topic* Me neither. Still, the current ending may not have been a good idea altogether.

Save the take back cupcakes space magic rainbows couple of drinks with LI pep talks, this is a real inquiry of mine.

Every person I've spoken to from RL friends to even in a MP lobby have generally said the same thing when the endings are casually brought up in conversation "I didn't hate it as much as everyone else seems to." Now being a long, long, lonnggg time various forum dweller I know for a fact people like to.. exaggerate and vent via forums. Do you guys/girls actually feel that strongly about it? I was very, very disapointed mostly in the fact I have put a ton of time (300ish hours I'd say is a fair number) into crafting perfect playthroughs over the years in hopes I'll have some flaming glory conclusion that leaves me in manly tears of joy but I was never in a massive blood rage to a point where I would have demanded the company change thier ending until I'm pleased with it.

If I were Bioware I don't think I'd be taking these forums very seriously, literally everything is negative and people swear up and down they hate Bioware and have ~lost all faith~ but yet.. still scower the BW forums? What? That's what I like to call the "echo" effect. People's opinions seem to be exaggerated in the company of fellow exaggeraters. I know some fans just will never be pleased, that's just a given with any game, but really? Every BW admin post you see has at least 9/10 of the comments saying something along the lines of "Hey well that's cool but this game sucks. EA are the devil I watch the angry joe show every night mrrmrrmrrr"

Just want a genuine consensus. Sure disappointment but, dirty diaper blood rage? It's a little embarrassing to be grouped into this mob of "fans" when I mention I'm unhappy with the conclusion of the trilogy.

you aswered it yourself, you should have met and chatted with yourself in Real Life......

....then some people feel passionate when very very disappointed and they feel their time and money was wasted, while others have an apathetic reaction to it...... just a matter of personality

Outrage is a very strong word. I would say that I am disappointed and frustrated.

I have a lot of emotions over the ending that ebb and flow, go back and forth over time. None of them are positive.

Right now, I feel like my blood is boiling in anger and frustration.

Yes same here. Also I make my voice known loudly and repeatedly here in order to facilitate a change in the situation.

I am not, and have not been "outraged" about the ending. I am however disappointed that BioWare were incapable of providing a suffecient ending to an otherwise good game.

I have to admit that I had much higher expectations, especially after experiencing the superb main mission of Tuchanka.

I am also very surprised that BioWare would dare insult not only me, but the entire community by hiding behind entirely useless terms such as artistic integrity. Not to mention that they deliberately refused to provide us with some straight up answers after they realised that so many people disliked the ending.

I would probably have accepted the ending as it is, had BioWare done us the courtesy of doing an internal investigation as to what and where things went wrong. I am ofcourse aware that this would have ended with either someone or a group of people proving to be the "bad apples", but I really don't care since none of this can qualify as charity.

Funny. Everyone I know hates the ending.

People who haven't even played the games hate the ending...no joke I showed some of my friends the ending on youtube and they were all like, WTF, when I explained how the game worked and what happened in the previous two I was told they were happy they never got into the series.

We should do a poll to ask who here even knows personally anyone who plays or has played Mass Effect. I'm always so surprised when I learn that games like Mass Effect or Oblivion is a best seller. I mean everyone I know either plays COD or sports games.

I haven't really said anything about how I feel on it so I can't be called on exaggerating it yet. When I finished the ending there was a moment of just incomprehension about what had happened so I reloaded and did it again and that's when I felt anger, but also betrayal (not kidding) and depression. I brought myself out of the depression a few days later and while that may sound stupid or out of place its just what I was honestly feeling at the time. I felt like I had played the games over and over again, invested so much time and energy and got so invested in the characters and now felt like I had wasted all of it. Now I am at a point where I can play the game again because everything before the ending is still awesome (like playing it open mouthed awesome) but I still feel at the very least disappointed or maybe even hurt by it. I hold out some hope for the DLC but I also at the same time expect I won't be satisfied by it. However I never joined a group or charity, never attacked someone from BioWare or anything because quite simply they have control over it so even if I were to rant it wouldn't mean a thing on my own. I'm glad to see that I am not alone in how I feel for the ending though I think going so far as to attack BioWare personnel is not a good idea. I see nothing wrong in giving a well written and thought out argument to them on the subject and asking if a new ending is possible.

It was too soul-crushing to inspire something like outrage, but suffice it to say I loathe it completely. I won't even entertain arguments trying to justify it because it's so awful. There's no defending it.

I wouldn't say it provoked outrage but I will say I detest the ending(s). Don't know anyone who likes them in my social groups.

To be quite honest, I was not outraged, at first. After playing through a second, third and fourth time and getting the same ending with no closure, no consequence and not being able to say to the shiny kid anything but "UHHHHHHhhhhhhhh...... I don't know" , i became more and more enraged.

On a lighter note my buddy, who is ten times the fan i am, actually vommitted after he completed it, no joke. He became so pale after seeing the Catalyst then the ending with Joker and EDI annnnnnnnnnd BOOM goes the dynamite, ha.

The 'casuals' I know didn't really care. But more than one did admit to raising an eyebrow at the ending. The 'serious' gamers that I know personally didn't much care for the ending, although they thought the rest of the game was well done despite a few bugs/glitches.

As for the handful of actual Mass Effect fans that I'm personally acquainted with, they positively despise the ending, and wonder "What the hell went wrong?"

Disturbingly, I did actually encounter somebody once who spent the better part of an hour going into a massive rant about it. Complete with 'I DONT WANT EXTENDED CUT 'they need to give us a NEW ending!!!11one' and everything.

I had to bite my tongue not to be a snark.

I hope to one day be as amazing as you.
