While that is an interesting article, it doesn't provide anything by way of details, such as:

- If this actually will cut across "all" franchises. There is no direct quote stating "all," nor any that specifically calls out DA. It could be a broad generalization, for all we know.

- *How* it will affect DA, if at all.

- *When* players could expect to start seeing shades of this online universe for DA, if at all.

At this point, it looks to be a matter of speculation. I'm sure if and when there is something to be announced that is specific to Dragon Age, the devs will step in and post something.

People that likely won't be among the working very long.

The only "online universe" type advance I would want to see for Dragon Age would be related to a toolset, like how Skyrim's Creation Kit now makes it easy to upload and share mods to Steam. There are things about that system that I would change, but it's a step in the right direction.

But I doubt we're getting a toolset, and I doubt Origin has the capability to implement something like that. MEH

dEAth of the crpg. But since they have alrEAdy made it clEAr that it is their intention to charge customers for every possible nickel possible, there should be no surprise that they would put profit ahEAd of content.

Kind of like that Facebook game?

That, you know, has been around for a while?

The way the article describes it, it sounds more like a cloud thing than a facebook thing. Since I don't envision myself playing DA on a smartphone or even a tablet, I probably wouldn't use it, but frankly couldn't care less that it's there. It's not as though it would defile my game just by its mere existence.

sure thing but as we've discovered in Mass Effect 3 it's impossible to get the best ending without these extras

Except that seems to be an accident caused by a math error.

You're talking about mandatory MP, right?

I haven't played ME3 and don't intend to, but tbh, I was pretty scandalized when I learned of that (I loathe MP with a very irrational passion). What's said in the article doesn't look like that, but more of way to connect multiple devices for a single player than connecting multiple players.

I'm still hoping that Dragon Age 3 is an MMO, so this is good news for me.

Supply and demand. The crowd that suddenly realises they forgot to put their smartphone in their pocket and fall into a panic attack are the future customers aimed at here. Those customers will determine success of these practices.

Ha! More mandatory multiplayer? Now I have even more reason not to "license" DA3.

Actually, at this point, I'm convinced that this is merely due to a disagreement between Bioware and the players (which is telling in and of itself) regarding what constitutes the "best ending." I think that Bioware considered Synthesis the best ending, and made that statement based on that consideration. If this is true, then the "best" ending is eminently doable in the core game, because I believe only 3000EMS are required to unluck Synthesis. No MP required.

That's just my speculation. In any event, the endings are still all ridiculous.

the piece said not just online gaming but EA has said previously that all it games will have online features (mp or dlc etc although DA3 is rumoured to have multiplayer) plus intention to charge for things like ammo reloads

I wonder how much I'll be charged for reloading my sword.

Seriously though, as incredibly [expletive needed] as this idea sounds, it's an intention, for a basically MP game, and is not related to the topic at hand (not really). So before we all work ourselves into a frothing frenzy of RAGE!!!, maybe wait and see?

The real problem I can see with the feature as it is described in the OP article is that they better have rock solid servers or make that optional, or we can find ourselves in a situation where we can't play because servers are down, even though we don't use the feature (UBISoft, I'm looking at you).

Should that be the case and there would be a need for mp in order to finish sp best like in ME3, then its bye bye Bioware. I will not play multiplayer games.

Wouldn't be bad if it was optional and free.

Which means it's definitely bad.

As someone who works shifts, I sometimes do. Especially if I start late afternoon/evening.

As for this, not something I'm going to fret about.
