I really, really enjoy MP....but without any actual gameplay enhancements and not just characters and weapons added...I feel like Diablo 3's imminent release will kill off at least 50-70% of the population.

Anyone else feel the same way? We need more game modes!

Just counting down to Diablo III here. So, starting the 15th, yes for me.

Exactly. Even if ME3's MP is making BioWare a decent amount of cash...without anything to keep players interested outside of weapons and characters (which, N7s are already a pain to acquire while chracter cards are the complete opposite), MP is going to go downhill with Diablo 3's release, Max Payne 3 will also be out next month...then Ghost Recon Future Soldier in June...and the BF3 expansion packs as well.

BioWare is running out of time. It's probably hard enough for a large portion of the fanbase to even THINK about picking up SP again until after EC, but if MP doesn't get more variety soon..it's all downhill.

Inevitably you'll lose players whenever the next new thing comes out. But the target audience for ME3 is not the same as D3; one's a top-down action RPG, the other is a hybrid RPG-FPS. It would take another FPS-RPG or FPS to be directly competing with the target audience, I would think.

I don't care about DIII. But still preordered it for £28 at Tesco Entertainment.

Add it to your basket then apply the coupon "GAMES5".
:)

Currently I'm working through a Dark Mode run of Witcher 2, just got to Act II.

Because 50-70% of ME3's pop plays Diablo.

Right.

I couldn't care less about Diablo but I'll probably be leaving ME MP once GW2 comes out. Personally I don't think a large enough group of ME MP players will be leaving for Diablo to make a noticeable dent, especially on consoles.

Far from it. Over time any game will dip a bit, but this one already seems to have a big userbase. It can absorb some slippage from people being Diablo-bound. Also, I'm sure a lot of folks will come back for a few weeks when the next multiplayer DLC pack comes out, and again when the Extended Cut is released and folks want to boost their readiness again.

I say the better personally. This will get rid of some of the elitists, and then also the people that just jump to whatever the newest game is. In my opinion, it will leave the people that A) actually like the game and want to play with people, B) aren't jerks, and C)people that know about the classes and use them correctly instead of just playing for funzies

I think a low point in activity is expected. Bioware can hope that new DLC for Single and Multiplayer will attract people back.

I mean, if there's a new story DLC wouldn't you want to bring your readiness back up?

Do you know anything about gaming? Diablo 3 is the only real threat to actual players of mass effect. The next threat is honestly Borderlands 2 and Guild Wars 2, everyone else that wants shooters won't even be playing this for that long anyhow.

To the best of my knowledge D3 is a PC title - MP on the Xbox is less likely to be affected by that release - the biggest challenge I see for MP on the Xbox will hit on 6th November, when H4 comes out - so I'm not worried for approximately 6 months.

So you're expecting both the elitists and the people that play for fun to leave?

50-70% may have been too low an estimate...  :P

Diablo sucks, too much clicking.
Plus in D3 you'll be able to buy gear for real money (hm sound familiar?) so it will simply be a game of
whoever spends the most $$ = wins.
