In my personal opinion, they shouldn’t have introduced romances that they didn’t intend to be fair to in ME3.
And they shouldn’t be introducing new romances in ME3 in lieu of giving the ones from ME2 a proper farewell (Allers, I’m looking at you /shudder).
I would rather have seen no new ones at all in ME2 than having them come to such sorry ends in this game – and this is without actively pursuing any of them myself. Especially for female players, it’s harsh that out of the four possible heterosexual love-interests for the 3rd game, one cheats, and one dies.
The thing is that there are players out there that haven't played through ME1 and ME2. So BW needed to add in characters that you can romance without any prior history. Although I would imagine anyone that's playing ME3 as their first game would be sooooo lost.
Despite agreeing that Jacob really does not treat femshep well I still fully expected him to do something like this in the 3rd game. Liara is probably not the best judge of character in the game lol when she said that Jacob is a good guy (this is true!) and that he's stable (this is not true!). As others have pointed out he's very flighty (not really his fault), and that whole thing with his father (i'd imagine it'd mess anyone up).
Compare to Ash or Kaidan, who pretty much worship Shepard and put him/her on a pedestal, I really didn't see that jacob felt this way at all.
So, it is all right to shiv already existing romances in the gut in favour of fan-service for new players?
For new male players – there’s always Liara. As far as I can tell, you could probably romance Liara while standing on your head, having your feet tickled – it’s the ‘main’ romance. She’s there regardless of what you’ve done previously in the game, right? For new female players, well… to be honest, they didn’t introduce a new, straight, female love interest, did they? Instead they booted old ones out the door. I liked Vega more than I thought I would, but he’s not a possible romance anyway.
I’m just sad to see people who have played the game and invested in the old romances be tossed to the side in favour of Allers. Wouldn’t you rather have had Jack back on board? Or Miranda?
The Angry One : Hah… sex herself… yuck. As for male players, I don’t think it’s possible, is it? I think that regardless of choices – can’t you still romance Liara in the 3rd game? Or is there something you can do to actually get her off your tail?
