Would you have waited 5 years for Mass Effect 3?

Seeing as how Diablo 3 is coming out in less than a month after an 11 year wait, I thought I'd throw this out there.

One of the biggest issues I have with companies like EA in terms of how they handle gaming companies (maybe even the biggest) is their strict deadlines. ME1 comes out in 2007, ME2 in 2010, ME3 in 2012. None of the games lack for quality, but there are fairly large shortcomings in each one which may have been helped with a little more time to think.

As of late, Bioware has taken heat for both DA2 and ME3, not necessarily because they are bad games, but because there are signs of them being rushed products (among other issues, but this is the one that is important for this discussion).

Would we really want to wait 5 years for a Mass Effect 3, though? I think it's easy to say yes in retrospect, but imagine you'd been waiting over 2 years for the game only to hear it was pushed back for another year or two at least. I think in an ideal world the game makers would control the time tables, and 5 years would definetely be worth the wait if that time was spent productively building the game. I'm sure there are people who feel differently, though, as that is a very long time to wait for the ending of a trilogy.

What do you guys think? Wait for quality or get the game out sooner to keep fan interest from waning?

PS: I just made a poll asking the same question, so check that out if you're interested.

Yes. In a heartbeat if I would be assured an unrushed ending with a lack of game breaking plotholes

I have way too many games on Steam that I haven't played yet. Patience is not my problem.

For the epic conclusion of what could have been one of the greatest series of all time? Absolutely.

But what if you hadn't played through ME3 yet? You had no idea about the endings or the plot at all. All you knew was that the game was being pushed back. You wouldn't be a bit frustrated?

I would still wait.

I think most people would agree that 1-2 years is not long enough for this game.

If Bioware had come out and said they were'nt satisfied with what they had made so far and needed more time to do this great serie justice, I'd have waited.

Quality is always worth waiting for.

Better a 5-6 year wait for something you're certain will be good than a two year wait wondering if it's going to be garbage or not

I was still impressed with what the team did accomplish in 2 years. Many people claim the game is near perfect, and with the shortest deadline of the trilogy that is quite an accomplishment.

I would definitely be willing to wait. But 5 years is an awful lot of development time (and hence production costs) to actually be very profitable for a company like BioWare that has only scheduled releases as a source of income. So that large a time-span seems unlikely, but I'd welcome it as long as it didn't result in "LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE!"

I'll admit that I probably would have been a little frustrated because I was ridiculously excited for the game to come out, but I still would have waited and been just as excited, if not more, for the game to come out.

Now that I know what the game is, I really think it did need another year in development. At the least.

Absolutely. If it makes the difference between getting an excellent and satisfying product, or getting the ending to Mass Effect 3 instead, I will be happy to be patient.

Yeah. I guess I'm trying not to look at it from a practical standpoint... more of an idealistic one, since this topic is just a huge "what if...?"

Considering how things have played out so far, I would have much preferred for Mass Effect 3 to have been split up into two volumes (a la Kill Bill) with plenty of development time between the two.

It should never have been pushed this far forward to begin with. You can turn out a new FIFA or CoD that is essentially the same thing tweaked and repackaged every year or two, but great games take time. Mass Effect was in development for 3 or 4 years. For 2, which should have taken longer or at least as long(given that the groundwork of developing the universe was done) to account for the complexity of incorporating all your decisions, they instead cut development time and started giving us the "oh in the third game we can actually give you the impact we've promised from day one" line, and now when we get to the third game the development cycle is actually very slightly shorter than the second. And it shows.

Of course I would, sense I wouldnt have a choice. Now the priority of the series would drop more then likely, but I would still pick it up when it finally came out. I mean, the same thing happened with me with StarCraft II.

Please look at Half-Life episode 3 and how we fans continue to wait impatiently, but we still wait and when the next half-life is released we will probably love it and praise valve for not dooing rushed stupid things that contradicts the other games.

What this guy said.  I also would have loved more hub worlds, better fetch quests, more side missions, more Thessia, and more Earth...

You guys say "yes" now
But if you had to wait 5 years. You would be saying "release it now what's with the delay"
