Desertion is a non issue, usually the reasons to leave a game are always legit: lag, RL priorities, utter incompetence of the other players.

AFK players are the issue.

So NO.

Usually if I leave a match it's not by choice, like last night the game just locked up on me. What they need is a reconnect system if they want to even think of punishing people for leaving a match.

Leaving during the match is how I punish AFK leechers. I only run into them when I play with randoms.

So I vote "NO" on this.

Your best solution is to build a Silver team of people you know.

If anything, at most they should only implement a system that punishes people who leave often. There ARE legitimate reasons for quitting, not so many for quitting multiple times in one night however.

I don't leave mid game. I get disconnected. There shouldn't be a penalty for that because I'm not doing it on purpose.

Thanks, that's perfect. I'll put that in.

I agree to punish those who leave VOLUNTARILY, however no penalty for those get disconected, lose connection to the host...

I'd rather not see us lose an extraction because some guy thought it'd be better to stand in a firezone then face your bizarre penalty, I know I would do it

Nope. Not a good idea until they get the server connections stable. I've been dumped by EA servers more often and at critical times in a mission then I care for.

Back in the day when people put penalties in for "quitting" an online game (ESC -> menu -> quit game) people started just yanking their physical connections (either modem jack or eithernet to router, yes I am old enough to have gamed over a dail-up modem) and faking disconnects. Thus I'd you want to punish such "leaving" behavior you also have to punish discontents, and as this is a rather hideous Peer to Peer game with an overwatch (EA) server mixed in legitimate non-user generated disconnects are common.

I can't bloody well keep my game from being PuGed into some hosting in Russia, China, or South Korea and having an unstable crossglobal connection where any one intermediary connection points could hiccup for a second and dump me out of the game.

If I play with friends who I know have a stable connection then I'm unlinkely to just "drop" in the first place.

=====

The team and dropper already get punished. First the team is down a player and if it was the host all the work on the current wave goes poof. The leaver looses all their credits gained.

I've quit because of leechers.

I've quit because of lag or a lot of in game glitches.

I've quit because the other 3 just didn't understand the objectives; they just wanted to run around killing.

Everyone quit on two occasions when the last enemy couldn't be killed; no other option really.

I've also noticed recently several instances, that I've been killed by invisible enemies just after I've used medi-gel. And medi-gel is quite rare for me to get, so I'm not going to waste more of it only to die trying to find something I can't see. On one occasion, an invisible wiped out the entire team. Possibly they've been driven under the map where I can't see them. Why bother trying to track a glitch?

This goes out to like, five of you guys...

Where did I say that accidental losses of connection would be punished? Nowhere. I, in fact, suggested that it should NOT affect those who suffered a sudden disconnect, or those who voluntarily left while under high ping or whatever. Ho-ly, ****.

I've intentionally quited quite a few times, but it is always because I'm getting unplayable lag or I'm glitching out the map. Either way, I'm not useful to the team, so I think it's better to leave on the off chance that they get a new player (especially since they might try and revive me). I don't think it would be right to be punished for that.

But how will the game 'distinquish' between any reason I consider legitimate to just quitting?

I don't care about leavers. I care about:
-Leachers
-Not knowing ping before the game starts
-Disconnects

If they fixed the three above, I wouldn't mind if I lost all experience and credits if I quit. As it stands, people should get to keep their credits/exp after every round.

Uhh, speak to Fai Dan...

There's probably a way to determine if a player was experiencing significant lag during the time they quit. If it exceeds a certain level, two-hundred ping, I don't know, then it forgives them.

People don't read anymore... do they?

I've updated the first post. You can go burp your freakin' baby without getting a -5% CR/EX penalty.

The penalty for leaving is no credits, no XP and loss of any equipment used.

Well I've had enough of wasting equipment because some **** host changes the gold match to bronze with out anyone realising.
Or gold matches with absolute ****tards who aren't even good enough play at silver difficulty.
Or hosts with pathetic bandwidth.
And so on, and so on.
Leaving early causes the equipment to not be lost. So no, no penalty for leaving unless other various problems are fixed first.

So in your system, all i have to do is start a download in the background so my ping goes up and i can quit?

Fine with me, but whats the point?

Simple, if you quit out of a game early your game search/lobby creation options are locked to only reapers on firebase reactor, and don't unlock until you've played a match to extraction.

That'll fix'er.

Primarily, it's a stronger deterrent for ditching your team than what is currently in place. As others have pointed out, if you leave a game, you simply miss out on the Experience and Credits you would have gotten if you stayed to the end, be it victory or defeat.

Aha! I kind of like that. Oh, and it'll boot you from the lobby if the host changes the map or enemy.

I sometimes have connection issues, and get disconnected from game. How can they know if that is a manual quit or an accidental disconnect?

My connection is downloading at 9.1 Mbps, yet I am bogged down by lag. Wave 8 in a Gold match, and leading in points. Can't do anything but stand still and die. I pull the plug.
Tell me again why I should be punished.

I support this IF they allow you to try and reconnect after you lose connection.  My internet has dropped for like 30 seconds before and I get kicked from the game.  If I was given the option to rejoin after such a short drop I would support this idea.

I tend to be drooped out at least three times a day by the servers. That's a good day!

Curse you EA!
