It is not a problem with ME3 ending, sounds to me like a problem of your own making developed over time long before you even played ME3. The final 10 minutes of one game should and in my experience does not turn people off gaming unless they already had lost interest in the first place in which case it becomes an excuse to stop or hide behind. There are many greeat games out and coming out, some good and some bad but if your mindset was leaning towards breaking away from gaming in first place then no games no matter how good will change that because at that stage all your doing is looking for an excuse.

No, it's a problem with the ending. Don't presume to play armchair psychologist.
I was an avid gamer before this, so were many others. Now we're put off. Were we all looking for an excuse?

Yeah, no. Sorry. It's this ending. That's what happens when one experiences an ending where you surrender to Hitler.

I no the feeling man, but try to look at it from the perspective of the journey and not so much the destination. Over the past 5 years I've experienced possibly one of the greatest video game sci fi's I've ever played. Its not because i was looking to how it was all going to end its because I enjoyed the journey that introduced me to these great characters and alien races. Yes the endings are terrible and disappointing but 15min out of a 100hr journey is not enough to put me off this fantastic adventure that began in ME1.

And don't forget, Marauder shield is there to shield you from the ending. All you have to do is let him take the second shot, Mass Effect then ends on a statement in that Shepard thought to the bitter end. It sure hell not perfect, but given the alternative, Its the perfect ending or at least until the extended DLC is released at least.

Load of crap and full of hyperbole. Grow up.

So try again.

People need to stop treating gaming as an oxygen supply and treat developers with disdain and bile just because you did not enjoy their game. They create it and you chose to buy it. They never threw your mother under a bus or put a gun to your head, so treat it as should do which is a hobby, somethign to pass the time and if gain enjoyment from some titles then great if not then do something else. Stop treating it like a personal affront/offense everytime your not giddy with joy about something. Sell it and buy something else or do something else and leave the throwing toys out the pram for more important issues.

I play magic the gathering sometimes, but really mass effect 3's ending ruined most gaming for me as well.

You have no response, so you resort to insults. How typical.

Hyperbole?

Victims who cooperate, surrender, or are captured by husks are sorted into camps. It is believed the husks
possess receptors that allow them to analyze a victim's DNA through sight, smell, or touch. Victims that meet their standards are herded from the camps into processor ships. Those the husks deem insufficient are either turned into husks themselves or indoctrinated to serve as slave labor. The Reapers use this last option to give their victims false hope -- many captives who would otherwise fight back become docile when they see members of their own kind obey and survive.

The processor ships reduce victims to a transportable liquid. Like in a slaughterhouse, the ships' design prevents victims from seeing or hearing what happens elsewhere so that they do not panic. The victims are ushered into locking pods, then rent apart and dissolved into paste that is flushed to storage vats.

The rate of killing is phenomenal. Intelligence estimates suggest there are more than 400 processor ships on Earth, killing approximately 1.86 million humans per day. In combination with battlefield deaths, disease, and famine, this pace will result in the complete depopulation of Earth within a decade. As the husks and indoctrinated slaves build more slaughtering facilities, the kill rate can only increase.

Yeah you're right. It's not the same.
The Catalyst is a million times worse than Hitler.

Bringing references to hitler in relation to a video game ending, yes hyperbole. Grow up child.

PS. posting here completely undermines your intention to quit gaming and looks like a cry for attention over anything else.

Grow up, making light of someone's pain is pretty petty.

hmm... you tell me to grow up but while I may not agree with the ending it doesn't influence my real life. Yes, I haven't played the single player again. But that does not mean I am put off by an ending. I have played way worse games with way worse endings. And still enjoyed them. To me gaming is relaxation, for a stressyjob, at times when I have time to do so.
People that feel physical or emotional pain from something like a game got to involved in it and should take a break because that is not normal and puts them under unnecessairy strain.

BioWare made the allegory, not me. The references are already there. Don't get all haughty because I point them out.
I've had enough of your schoolyard insults, make a real argument or be silent.

Probably I'm minority, but I think problem is not "just with the ending", but problem is with whole game. Ending is just like that anecdote - last moment and because of that is remembered better.

Not sure I fit under "avid gamer" (there are many criteria), but I played after finishing ME3. I didn't played last week at all, but it has nothing to do with ME3 - we had "all hands on deck" situation on my work, where we had to work practically non-stop for several days.

I'm not sure what analogy to choose for ME3, even more unsure how to translate it to English and not be banned for that.Image IPB

Emotional investment is a real thing, no matter the medium.
If you didn't invest, well good for you. But who the HELL are you to judge people that do?

All you do is parade around calling people dumb for having differing views to yours. I have to ask, what is your issue?
If you don't like what we say, why do you continually talk about it? Why don't you pack up and move on to somewhere where you won't have to worry your pretty little head about it?

You know for some of us video games is about escapism, life sucks, we don't need our video games to remind us of this. In the five year span of Mass Effect I've lost four members of my family (Brother, Grandparents, Uncle), my Mother has become crippled, and my Parents lost their house. If Bioware thought going "dark" was in everyone's best interests, they're idiots. I've been living "dark", I was looking for a little light.

I don't feel the same. Instead, I'm gonna stick to playing games made and published by studios that actually enjoy making their games. THQ has a high density of games like that. Darksiders 2, the DoW series, the Saints Row series. All fun games made by devs with a heart for what they do.

Not saying Bioware doesn't have people with a heart for their job, but it's very clear that mentality there is more focused on short term profit and selling product than it is on making something cool.

Not gonna lie Darksiders 2 is looking great, and it gives me alot of hope given they delayed it to polish it it. They even delayed it with THQ not doing so great right.

Yeah. THQ doesn't have an aggressive release schedule like EA and Activision do, and as a result they're suffering. So I get EA and Activision from a business perspective, but as a result the quality of their games is lower.

I want to support Vigil mostly because Darksiders was always a bit of a sleeper hit, but they persevered and made its sequel follow the same formula while making it four times bigger. I can't wait. These are developers who simply know very well what sort of game they want to make, and damn the profits. That's artistic integrity.

I had phases where I hardly played any games, or just some good flash games on kongregate. But it always comes back to me, either an awesome game comes around (and I'm still excited as hell about D3 - awesome Beta weekend right now, shame that I have to work - and that PC cannot run D3.)  or I want to replay old classics (D2, Psychonauts, Ascendancy or HoMM3 always get me).

You need to unplug yourself from the matrix, there is this amazing thing called a life outside of a game. There are limitations on how much you use a video game for escapism as always life must take precendence outside the confines out your bedroom or fictional characters.

I did not call them dumb, nice try princess. I said don't use hyperbole and stop making poor excuses, a requirement to stop acting like a child and grow up due to how you reacted. It seems to me the problem is your end with myself not the other way around. You responded to me if you recall or did you forget, I stated an opinion and you launched into an offensive.

P.s. You user name suits you very well as all you have done is rage since the moment you saw my opinion which differs from your own.

This...  exactly.

If a single game makes you want to quit gaming, then I can honestly say gaming wasn't for you in the first place.

How many books have you ever read or movies have you seen where they were poorly written or didn't deliver the ending you wanted?    Did you give up reading other books or seeing other movies?

I'm sure that I'm not retiring from gaming but I haven't played a single game in 6 weeks now so I understand the OP.

Before I allow myself to get invested in a series again I'm waiting for the WHOLE thing to come out and it ALL of the games get rave fan + critic reviews then I'll just pick up the series and have a lot of guaranteed good gaming at a bargain price.  That's hard to beat.
