I hope that Mass Effect will not stop on the 3rd part.

A whole universe (literally and figuratively) has been created in Mass Effect games and it is beginning to reach the excellence in ME2, but even more in  ME3 (and at many different levels including graphics). It would be a shame to end there wile the decor just start to be painted and that Mass Effect is far from having explored its possibilities. There is so much to tell, so much to explore, and Commander Sheppard (the female one, for me) must not die.

Maybe ME4 could be a prequel, and we could then again be the Commander Sheppard in a prior period or in a period between ME1 and ME2 or between ME2 and ME3, but it is still possible to develop many stories with Sheppard who are not in a prequel. Sheppard has a strong personality that I like, and a voice, facial expressions, an attitude that go with it. Another character would necessarily be different, and the main interest of the game (which is the continuity in the next game) would be lost. The end of the 3 is fine, but personally I would not wish the death of Sheppard (which is also not clearly known but is widely suggested.

By the way, can someone tell me how to make screenshots of the game? I wish I had images of my character, Abi Sheppard. When I do a capture of the game, the image is black. Thanks by advance. ;)

It was originally supposed to be a trilogy. I hope it ends here. Can you imagine what the ending of Mass Effect 4 would be like?

would be a bit difficult to create a mass effect game without the umm... mass effect

Shepard's story was meant to be a trilogy. That doesn't mean there cannot be future Mass Effect games...

I know I'm probably a minority at this point, but I really hope there will be an ME4.

I don't think there's any chance for sequel in Mass Effect universe, but prequels or side stories could make sense.

I also hope there is a Mass Effect 4. However, I would rather not have a prequel or a direct sequel. For good or bad, Shepard's story is done. The overall plot from the Reapers is done. While I will still revisit them when I play the three games, continuing with the same characters would be limiting at best.

If it was a prequel I would NOT buy it. Nope. Not whilst knowing how everything ends.

If it was a sequel...mabye.

ME4 means they have to pick one of the 3 endings as canon, so it probably won't happen.

The problem with a prequel is that one of the greatest things about mass effect is that choice matter (until that... ending). If ME4 takes place before the others how can it have meaningful, large scale choices?
If it is a prequel, most choices will either have to be character related and not have a large effect on the ME universe (which doesn't sound that bad, but its still abandoning one of the core attractions of ME); or no choices at all, in which case ME will have to work very hard to get my money
In regards to a sequel, well... that destruction ending where Shepard breathes seems a awfully reminiscent of halo 3's (anyone remember "Finish the Fight"?)

Know what? I actually can see them continuing ME4 with shepard. maybe it could be about bringing order to the victory fleet, helping gather resources from dead reapers to rebuild relays, and rebuilding the galactic civilization... that you just destroyed. granted, this would require that the destroy ending be made canon as it is obviously the only one where shepard doesn't dies and doesn't change life in the ME universe forever. It would actually be slightly similar to importing an ME2 shepard, as shep could die at the end and as a result could not go about killing reapers and saving the galaxy again.

I wish, I've bonded with this galaxy and I don't really want to leave it.

But I'd hate another Shepard sequel, he's done (Not to mention dead, I don't care how you slice it). The Reapers are gone and the Mass Relays are destroyed too, there's simply nothing else for Shepard (And the galaxy) to do now other than die.

Unless EA decide to milk the cow till all that's coming out is powder and we get this in the upcoming ME4 trailer:

"They thought he was dead *Shep climbing out of the rubble slowly*.. They were wrong."
*Screen goes black then BLAM, Harbinger is still active.. Somehow.. EPIC MUSIC PLAYS*
"Now he's the last hope for Earth once more, but this time... HE'S ALONE."
*Shep picks up a gun amongst the rubble and does "The Dark Knight's" pose*
*Speaking really fast* "Purchase a £50 EA game now and receive your free import code, or purchase a code for just £20"

That made me chuckle.

I just read that in the deep voice that plays when a new a film is announced.

I actually would like another ME with Shepard. If it's ME3-2 or ME4 even if it's just to clear up and provide a proper finale that ME3 was meant to do.

I don't think the EC will satisfy me (the fact that there won't be any gameplay leaves a sour note).
If they add things 'cutscenes or extra dialog' mid-game or something which will provide clarity (aside from the enhanced ending) it will probably give me an incentive to replay the again.
I have a save right after entering the beam for the purpose of the DLC.

Mass Effect 4 will still feature Shepard, only this time will awaken from a stasis pod 50,000 years in the future (as the last human alive) to help the Yahg, Pyjaks, and Space Cows fight the Reapers in the next cycle.

There's a statement right here on the forums from Casey Hudson that says Shepard's adventures aren't over:

http://social.biowar.../index/10089946

"So where do we go from here? Throughout the next year, we will support Mass Effect 3 by working on new  content.  And we’ll keep listening, because your insights and constructive feedback will help determine what that content should be. This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard. "

I think he's referring to DLC or multiplayer (or even, god forbid, an MMO) but it could also mean ME4.

Before ME3 got released, I was certain that there would be a ME4 of some sorts, given their statements.

Now...

I wouldn't see the point of it.

You can be sure that their market analysts are working overtime to determine if it makes sense. Same goes for any single player DLC the might or might not release.

Personally I think if there was something like ME4, it would be heavily relying on multiplayer and feature some second rate storyline to satisfy the casual audience. A quick money grab if you so wish.

For me the ME universe is done with at the end of Shepards story. I bought that game purely to see that part through, despite my reservations when learning about multiplayer and their constant appeals to a broader audience. And I must say I was rather happy when amazon handed out refunds.

Don't be silly. Mass effect drives still work after the end of ME3.

The way they progressed so far, ME4 will probably be an auto dialogue fps where you get no choices at all.

Again, what? They've still got ships that faster than anything in Star Trek, and a whole galaxy to explore. The Citadel government never did control more than a fraction of the galaxy.

Without mass relays, travel would still be slow.

It would be like Dragon Age 2. 10 years of their lives just spent on the Normandy and thats just to do a simple mission.

It would be a terribly short game.

I'd love to see: Mass Effect: Spectre Ops

Set pre-2157 (i.e. humanity is not relevant yet), it offers three playable races - salarian, turian, and asari. Each race has specific combat advantages and disadvantages. You go on various missions doing Spectre stuff. I think this game would have a LOT of potential.
