I always thought the white stuff on her hair fringe was dandruff.

i had my eyebrows shaved once (a whole other story involving plenty of alcohol) and they serve a great purpose of stopping sweat from getting into your eyes so maybe liara is a sweaty asari and needs eyebrows?

I've never seen her sweat.

On camera, that is. ;)

We don't know if they are painted on. For all we know it could be a recessive genetic trait. Like how your hair color depends on your genetics and which hair color you get from your parents. If you have a brunette mother and a red head father, you may end up a red head or a brunette. It all depends on which trait is stronger and which trait is weaker. We all are made up of dominant and recessive traits. Could be that the eyebrows are a dominant trait only unique to Benezia/Liara's bloodline. Or it could be a recessive trait that just came to the fore.

We don't know.

Faces without some sort of eyebrows look very off. Most of the Asari we see do in fact have facial markings that give the impression of eyebrows, even if they're not as close as Liara and Benezia

I like to imagine that the asari evolved from some sort of cetacean lifeform (i.e. dolphin-like), which would explain their mammalian traits such as body hair (Benezia and Liara are the only ones we see with eyebrows, but all asari have at least eyelashes, which means they could have more hair elsewhere) and mammary glands (er, breasts), while also explaining their head fringes, which always had kind of an aquatic vibe to me. So if that were the case, Liara and Benezia's "eyebrows" could very well be actual eyebrows (a recessive trait, as you suggested) and not just weird markings that don't jibe with those used by any other asari in any of the games.

We do know.

Actually,
they aren’t eyebrows at all. They are unique color patterns that vary
for every Asari. We, being humans, naturally associate those particular
markings with eyebrows, but the Asari don’t think of them in that way at
all.

You're underestimating the power of Tali's voice actress. Her voice makes (or breaks) her character, but so does her body language, which I'm guessing they used to substitute the lack of face emotions.

If you watch a touching scene with Tali without dialogue, most if it is in the body language, and the emotions are a bit harder to read. With Liara, you can pick on a decent amount of emotional nuance in her face instead, even without the words.

If I remember correctly, Tali wasn't intended to be a love interest, and the player interest in her took them by surprise. She wasn't designed for a relationship, but her personality, writing, voice, and body language were enough. I'm sure they didn't think it was ideal, but I'm sure the animators given the job of handling her sequences learned a lot about conveying emotion exclusively through body language.

This was interesting, I'll take an extra look next time I have a convo with Tali    =)   thanks

Her eyebrows always remind me of the drawn on eyebrows of old ladies that over plucked in their youth. You know, the ones that still wear a lot of garish makeup and have lipstick crusted in the corners of their wrinkly mouths. Not a flattering look for Liara.
