A moment of peace and clarity amongst the chaos. You merged consciousnesses I believe, shared memories. It's a show of friendship the Asari display to those closest to them.

Alright for those who romanced her, maybe a bit strange for those who didn't, although I'm not entirely sure what happens in this situation if you didn't.

It's pretty much the same for non-romances, but she puts her head on your shoulder instead of kissing you.

Weak.

That's seems like a bit over the line if you romanced someone else.

It would probably be much stronger if it was romance exclusive, providing other people got something similar with their hook-ups.

Oh lighten up. She specifically tells you that asari do it with their close friends too, so it's not a romance-exclusive thing.

Sorry how has this sharing of memories by "merging of consciousness" idea been lost as somehow cheating and conceiving a child with her? Have I missed something?

It's a joke by the fans, don't read too much into it.

I doubt Liara would do something like that, but the details of asari reproduction are so vague that she probably could if she wanted to.

Yes, those are annoying too, but this is perhaps the 10th thread I have seen about "Liara´s gift".
And still there are people who just can´t understand that melding is not always about breeding for an asari. It´s like many haven´t even payed attention to what happened in ME1 or the dialogue.

I have just given up, explaining it.

Well, it's made more confusing because we're told Liara's sharing memories, but we see no memories.

We should have got a scene of little kid Liara digging up Armali Park looking for ruins.

Well, Bioware did half-ass many things in ME3. And yes, I would have loved to see her as a child digging up prothean ruins. Or maybe even a happy memory of Benezia.

It's kind of like a Vulcan mind mend.
Liara joins thoughts with Shepard to give him an everlasting memory with which to remember her by, for ever and it would act like a sweet spot which he can take himself to when he wants a mini-vacation. Kind of like in the movie "Collateral" where Jamie Foxx's character has that photo of a beach in his cab, and he looks at it every time he wants to get away and arrange his thoughts.

Lighten up? Eh, OK? I'm not sure what's so grim about that post but whatever.

After watching what happens on YouTube, her actions seem a little too intimate.

She's a friend, and she thinks you're both going to die soon.

And if you're not that close to her, then maybe don't agree to link minds to her?

Does she? I'd like to find out where she intimates that's going to happen.

I romanced her in every playthrough I've brought over to ME3 so far.

They're not, and she's not over the line. You're just being a prude.

And BW did give you the option to refuse her this time, unlike ME1.

Gee, I don't know, maybe the SWARM OF TIME CAPSULES she's sending out as a backup plan?

Look around? You're in bombed out London, surrounded by Reapers, about to make a likely-suicidal assault on the Citadel?

Pretty safe to assume that they're about to die in that situation.

It's a possibility, but not a certainty. She does not express the belief that their deaths are certain.

Well then if you acknowledge the possibility, why not cover your bases and say goodbye to a close friend the best you can?

Actually she does seem rather frightened during that scene, saying "This is it, isn't it?". Her general tone to me comes out really dark; as if she's on the verge of breaking down.

I think she believes that she, Shepard and the rest of the team are going to die, hence her wanting to give the gift now rather than later.

Maybe thinking both of you are going to die was overstating it, but she's certainly treating this as her last conversation with Shepard

"This is it, isn't it?"
"It can also be a way to say goodbye"
"thank you, for everything"

I romanced her in every playthrough I've brought over to ME3 so far.

My point was, Shepard has to have agreed to something rather more intimate than Liara resting her head on his shoulder to see this scene.

I'll clarify.

There's nothing wrong with doing it in essence.

Essentially embracing each other, putting her head on Shepard's shoulder, might seem a little too intimate if you romanced someone else. That's all.

TBH, when it first happened I was confused and thought oh no, did I just cheat on Kaidan?! But I replayed the scene and paid better attention and realized it was just a sharing of memories. I just wish they'd actually shown something to actually make it meaningful. It seemed rather pointless the way it was done.

You can ask her what it is before she gives it to you.
The gift is something Asari share between bondmates where they join minds.

"Thank you. For everything" is the same line she gives Shepard (if LI) after knocking boots in ME1.

It was my favourite scene in the entire game, I think. Worked better when she was a non-LI.

IMO I thought the kiss was less romantic than putting her head on Shepard's shoulder. However, I've had female friends put their head on my shoulder when a bunch of us are hanging out, or watching a movie. Usually my gf is not present =P, so I understand where your coming from. But I'd also say that since your LI is not present, it wouldn't be too intimate simply because Liara has been with your team since ME1 and sometimes a bit of intimacy is important in friendships.

My male shepards never romanced her. Hell, my canonshep is a raging ******. I still went ahead with it, because she's a friend, and didn't regret the scene at all.

If she didn't think there was a real chance you all might die she wouldn't have done it, that's what's important.
