Drew was the lead writer on Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect had a deeply moving, inspiring and engaging storyline. It was pure genius and set the foundations for the Mass Effect series.

Mass Effect 2 again written in a way that grew our love for the characters in the series. A fantastic plot, even with that human reaper at the end :P

So it seems pretty clear to me that more effort was put into the multiplayer aspect of ME3 than the SP itself.
Whilst we had some great moments in ME3 with Garrus and some of the missions, everything that we'd come to appreciate from the series was lost and a confusing end transpired.

This makes me wonder, did Drew not like the direction Bioware is heading? Has he had enough of the Call of Duty/Battlefield influence on his creations?

One thing I can say for sure in my own experience is that Bioware games have and are more and more losing their appeal to me ever since EA took over.

I am afraid that I could now waste my hard earned cash on any future Bioware purchases. Before ME3 and DA2 I would happily spend any money on the sheer talent Drew Kapyshyn created.

So a salute to you Drew, and thanks for everything you've done!

Or maybe he just wanted to do something different?

The multiplayer is addictive, I'm half to my next pack that costs 99000.

Casey created Mass Effect. Drew wrote for it.
Casey was quite content to watch it burn.

I agree, the MP is good fun with friends however I would take a well thought out seperate SP ME3 over MP any day of the week.

Even if he was 100% happy with how ME3 ended, not wanting to finish your own baby from a writers perspective is incredibly abnormal. Typically a writer wants to finish his own creation, even if his role was diminished.

I'll say this: I'd buy more effort went into the MP aspect, as it is genuinely fun. ME3's singleplayer meanwhile cut out a lot of what made 1 and 2 good, while adding little save a "game for dummies" mode and kinect support.

Whatever his reason they are his. I would have perhaps finished the series I started (3 not anything more that the execs wanted to milk the franchise for after).

Doesn't surprise me, EA are focused on multiplayer - it's where the big bucks are. Where you're "too invested" to care about how much you're spending.
We see it already with the packs. People spending mountains of money on them. No, it doesn't matter if you don't or your friends don't. Other people are, and they're generating heaps of revenue.

I fear ME3 marks the beginning of the end of BioWare as a single player developer.

I wouldnt be suprised if there were conflicts at some point. Epic Storytelling and quick cash grab and more profit dont always go hand in hand

True, it sure feels like Bioware's games are turning into cheap action flicks...

Karpyshyn didn't create Mass Effect.

And he left the ME development team mid-ME2 to work on TOR, a game which he spent the last three years writing.

He is perfectly candid about his reasons for retiring from games on his personal website, but I suppose it's easier for some to infer and make things up rather than take someone at their word.

Mass Effect is not multiplayer.

For 5 years it's been a single player RPG. Now it's Gears of War with Biotics.

Seriously? Horde mode? That's all I ever played in Gears, I don't want to play it here, especially when it feels the same.

The multiplayer is a cheap cash cow for EA who is trying to draw in the CoD/GoW crowd like they did with Battlefield 3, which only ruined it in the process.

Drew did not write ME2, all he did was give an outline for Mac to work with. Drew was working on TOR when ME2 was in dev. Drew left Bioware after TOR. Big reason? He was criticized for his book Revan and what he did to the Jedi Knight story ending. He left so he could write more horrible books. People read way to much into this. People say Drew is a great writer, sorry but his writing quality has dropped big time  after Mass Effect.

You're assuming the OP actually knows this and deliberately tossed it aside to make something up.

Oh and BTW, what f*cking Call of Duty and Battlefield influence.

He left during middle of ME2 production.

And last time I checked, ME2 is a third person shooter RPG singleplayer only, while those games are first person shooters that have both singleplayer and multiplayer. Actually, most of Battlefield games are only multiplayer.

And Mass Effect 3 is still third person shooter RPG, only this time has cooperative multiplayer.

Call of Duty and Battlefield are mostly known for competitive multiplayer.

So in other words, you have no idea what are you talking about OP.

No, he's assuming the OP just didn't care enough to read what Crapshyn actually had to say about why he left.

Even if people do think he is a "horrible writer" it still doesnt change that it is odd for a writer to leave his own creation.  Yes, he took a big step back in ME2, but the fact that he was still involoved and gave advice about the setting still says a lot, seeing as he was also writing for the massive project that is TOR.
