They would have meant something if the IT was real. Since it appears it isn't, then they are just artistic BS.

I don't know if it's just me being too jaded and cynical as a person, but I felt absolutely nothing at all during the dream sequences. If anything I found it quite jarring, it felt like Bioware were trying to force me to care about some character I don't know who had 20 seconds of screen time.

They would have had more emotional impact on me if they were flashbacks of the Virmire sacrifice and/or other characters with whom I actually had some connection. Maybe showing a sequence of something bad happening to Shepard's LI.

So what about you? Did you feel anything?

so you didn't care about your shepherd? as it was soposed to be his/her state of mind but it would of been better if it was dead squad mates rather than that kid.

@christrek1982

The whole problem - is that the "focus" of the dreams is a "ghost boy", the NPC to which most players have either neutral or negative(if its 2nd playthrough) attitude. So "let him burn is all right". If it was Shep's LI or close friend (if no LI is present), or at least team member - then yes, there would be awful lot of emotions. I do not understand why my Shepard should care in any way for this sneaky bastard. Nor do I care about him. Its not enough "emotional input" to consider him something other then "just another small-time NPC". If the kid got rescued by the Normandy, and got himself killed halfway in game (so player had plenty of time to "get to know him") - then yes, it would work.

Creepy as hell. I mean really? Shepard dreams about little kids. If I wasn't an ME fans. I'd think this game is made for pedo's.

I liked the concept of hearing squaddies you couldn't save, but I think it could have been handled differently from chasing that kid in slow-mo several times.

What about a dream sequence in which Shepard is in a Batarians body watching an approacing fireball from the mass relay from Arrival exploding?

What about a dream sequence reliving the killing of Wrex if it happened?

What about a nightmare sequence of Shepard dying at the hand of  a reaper?

How about a nightmare about the plunge thru the atmosphere in Mass Effect 2?

There were so many ways the dream sequence could have gone to make for a better story, but hey, I guess this is all we get. :(

Yep, plenty of missed opportunities there. It's a shame because I think, if done right, they could have been effective. C'est la vie.

Hell if they wanted to deliver the player the sense of despair, guilt and hopelessness in one packadge - they could just recall Alenko/Williams "last moments" in dreams, when Shepard says "I'm sorry, we cant come for you". And then shooting a lot of geth and getting killed as weapons burn out. They even could add "Damn you, Shepard, why me!!" or "You all will burn, bastards!" last words to break/inspire player a bit... And instead we get this s***t...

I'm in fact curious, what do you think devs were trying to do by those dreams? Any ideas?

I thought it was an interesting and abstract look into Shepard's subconscious getting crushed under the weight of his/her responsibility. The voices of people who'd died (VS, Thane, Mordin, etc), which have CLEARLY been missed by a lot of players added that emotional impact.

Personally I believe that the dreams should have had your dead squad members and friends as the central characters instead of the child. I don't know who is child is all i know is he is one causality of billions more to come. If I saw Mordin and Legion and everyone else who died it may have been much better.

I felt nothing. I didn't care for the kid like they forced Shepard to.

I didn't really get why I had to run after the kid. I didn't really want to, and it just felt very forced. In addition the movement was slowed down and just became annoying as the kid ran in a normal pace away from me, forcing me to follow the lit patches to find him again. Then when I reached him weird stuff happened, and finally more weird stuff happened as Shepard was suddenly standing next to him. Whut?

It was more weird than interesting.

I liked them and I very much like how they tried to show first cracks in Shepard´s usual strong posture. I also like how Shepard runs in slow motion :). But I hate the child. I think if there were ghosts of some fallen friends as someone above me suggested...like Ashley, Mordin or Thane(later) etc. it would make more sense and it would have far greater impact.

A little annoyance and a desire to get back to the game.

I kept getting lost, then mad at why my Shep would even care about some dumb civilian. And then boredom

I wouldnt have minded dreams about the collectors surprise attack. The only thing I liked about the dream was the voices.

I find it strange that they tried to force us to feel something for a character we just saw, and had barely spoken to, while most of us have formed actual emotional connections to the rest of the characters in the story.

I guess thats because of "we want to attract new players" stuff (since they know the boy as well as someone who Shep lost, but its a kid, "universal emotional button"), but anyway I still think Williams/Alenko will be more fitting.

Again, as i said to a previous poster, I think you missed the point of the dreams...

Its not about the child so much.  The kid is just an avatar, the personification of the emotional stress building up within Shepard stemming from having to deal with from the loss of his comrades/Earth and other worlds falling/ the weight of the galaxy on his shoulders.

He chases this kid int he dreams but he cannot reach him.  Just  as how he is fighting to save the galaxy but he cannot save everyone.  This kid is his reminder that people are dying everyday and he is powerless to do anything about it.
