I would have felt more if I ran into Mordin on a beach, running tests on seashells

That would have been amazing. Talking to Mordin in this dream state would have given Bioware a smooth way to really help us understand what Shepard was feeling.

Perhaps the first dream sequence could feature the Virmire survivor, with another featuring Legion or Tali (after Rannoch), and Mordin could come after Tuchanka.

To answer the topic, I think Bioware's attempt to clue us into Shepard's mental state by using the kid and the dream sequences was very uninspired writing, lacking any depth or cleverness.

I took them as moments to get up go to the bathroom or get a drink. They would of been mutch better if instead of that kid it was people that died Mordin, Thane, Legion and in the setting of were they died not some random forest.

First time I didn't hate them, I felt indifferent and zoned out so I didn't hear my dead squadmates whispering. They'd better make them skippable when EC comes.

Even before ME1, Shepard has seen some seriously traumatic stuff. So they could have used Mindoir, Akuze or Torfan.

Oh the Mindoir one would be awesome. Just imagine shepard seeing slavers abducting his friends killing his parents and they are screaming at him to help. Then later in the game he has another dream with all the people that were lost on mindoir and they are all saying why didnt you help us shepard, you could of saved us.

I was wondering why the Reapers were using that avenue to try to get into Shepard's head. I mean, strange whispering voice, ever increasing numbers of black wispy ghost figures, a 'child' whom Shepard really has little to no reason to care about; a child whom no one else reacted to, a child whom no one else even saw, a child who mysteriously appeared in and then disappeared from a vent?

Would have worked better if they had characters whom we actually have had significant interaction with.

I get with what they were trying to do with "The Kid", but it kinda seemed geared towards new players. Old players have had more significant interactions with other characters.

My thoughts as soon as I saw the dream start "OMG, not this sh*t again. You just run around a forest in slow-mo for 5 minutes then see some kid light on fire"

I honestly could not believe it, why did they add the dream sequences becuase I don't understand why they felt it was necessary to add them in.

I kinda rolled my eyes a little and/or tutted every time I had to endure one of the dream sequences. It felt too forced for my liking, and felt out of place, not as much as the ending but not far off.

I hate the dream sequences. They are such an annoying waste of time.

I felt nothing.
Generally speaking, kids in movies, games or real life don't strike me any kind of particular empathy or make me go "AWWW so cute".
In fact, I hate kids. They're annoying.

True

In my opinion, it was in their "artistic" advantage to use the familiarity of old faces to build up more emotion, but they decided to go a different route. Personally, I've never felt that the "new player" thing as a good justification. I'd be like someone watching return of the jedi or return of the king without seeing any of the other two movies in the trilogies. Plus, I'd like to believe that a majority of the players playing ME3 have played 1 and 2, or at the very least one of them. I could always be wrong though...

Could have done without the dream sequences but there was some potential there. Does anyone recall the fan art of Shepard suffering a dream about Akuze and comes to wake up discharging a pistol into a nearby bulkhead. It then shows Jack hugging him tightly and crying quietly as she tried to comfort him.

Could have made a powerful scene.

I felt nothing. I can't be made to care for the plight of some unknown child. If my Shepard was truly my avatar, he would not be having any nightmares about stupid kids at all. He would instead be dreaming of the M76 Revenant and how sexy it looks while mowing down pretty much anything.

Plus I really don't like children so there you have it.

I felt an urge to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy.

Viewed that way, I suppose the ending was good after all.

In some ways the sequences feel like they were written by someone who had only read about human emotions in a book and had no personal experience with such things.

I get what they were going for, but unfortunately it's just another example of really poor execution in ME3.

Like many things in the game the dream sequences had potential but handled wrong. Should have used Shepard's background for dream sequences.
EX: My Shep Earthborn War hero
See a young Shep running around causing trouble with his gang suddenly reapers drop in or everything catches fire slowly everything burns to the ground while Shepard struggles to survive and save his friend/gang members
See Shepard on Elysium during his shore leave batarians attack Shep fights them off but as the tide turns suddenly cannibals start showing up Shep's weapons aren't as effective on them cannibals start turning people into husks Shep is overwhelmed
These would have been much cooler and would have been a better way to show Shep's state of mind

I actually did slightly feel for them because when I originally saw the kid die I felt really sorry for the kid and that would be something that would haunt my dreams.

However I didn't really care that much when I saw the star child was the kid, then I was like 'Oh screw that little reaper'

No hearing Kaiden and Mordin made me feel the pain of the loss even more. Bioware did not get that wrong, only the ending.

YES, thank you for this topic. I didn't care about the little boy. I would have felt sadder if it was a little girl getting killed. Or maybe if you had some interaction with the kid before it hit the fan. I felt sadder for the little girl in the trailer than the boy in the game.

After the first dream sequence, I thought that it was just a little cheezy bit of theatrics trying to make me "feel" Shepard's pain. Seemed odd that it should focus on the kid, but I heard voices of other squad mates who had died, so I figured it was supposed to embody my pain at losing squadmates.

When the second dream sequence hit, I started wondering if there was supposed to be something for me to find there. I spent a while not chasing the kid and looking around, but all I got was more voices of dead squad mates. Eventually I went to the kid and it ended.

So at the end of it all, it left me feeling like it was a somewhat cheezy way of trying to say that Shepard was broken up over the deaths (both recent and old) of squadmates. That was about it.
