People ask for intimate scenes that don't involved showering with bras on. No one wants a big, elaborate porno (Pirates was terrible, I shudder to think what they would do with Mass Effect). Kepping the suggestive imagery somewhere relevant, like the LI scenes, probably could have avoided threads like this.
Nudity is not porn. Tight revealing clothing is closer to nudity than porn. Im all for full nudity in M rated games. They do it in R rated movies and mature comics. Im sure both movies and comics also have some ******** ( or male equivalent) from tight clothing and don't get forum threads on them.

The game has asari, geth, turians, krogans, salarians and reapers. What does it matter what species or tech she is. It could have been a nod towards her being based on the illusive man's desire for the woman he had her modeled after. So what.
Bigger question for me is how a robot could fool an entire base into thinking she's human.

This is tastefully done as well. Nobody calls it out, or makes lewd comments, except jack...but shes jack.
The player has to really work their camera to get a good shot at it.

I never said it was. But certain people like to imply it. I don't mind tasteful nudity when doing so helps along the storyline. As you said, R-rated films and comics targeted to an adult audience can do this and actually have it enhance the plot. There are also R-rated movies that only avoided an X-rating because they didn't actually show penetration. Gratuitous sex, nudity, and incredibly suggestive imagery add nothing to Mass Effect. And EDI's cameltoe is gratuitous.

Uh huh, just because they dont script it does not magically make it tastefully done. And no you dont really have to work your camera angles, i was flipping through the costumes and my wife noticed it right away. It is incredibly far from tasteful

Haha, this is tastefully done? It even makes EDI uncomfortable. On the citadel she says:
"Is it time to return to the Normandy? I am getting propositioned with increasing frequency."

I respect your opinion that it adds nothing. However, I think that nudity in video games adds a level of authenticity .
People laugh about the witcher 2's sex scenes but I found they really set the stage. The first one you see geralt waking up with a naked triss in bed. This immediately tells the viewer that the game is not going to coddle them. It adds realism, and a serious tone instead of the laughable underwear in shower scene. It invites deeper emersion, as we leave our social norms in favor of the games where nudity isn't as taboo. Geralt never giggles to himself when he sees a woman with her chest bared, and so an emersed player won't either.

In fairness, you the player are the one who encourages them to get together. She doesn't know what love is (do we for that matter?), but she knows she would give her very life to protect Joker and that's close enough for me. EDI wanted to experience what it's like to be human, so I decided to give her the chance by encouraging that relationship. I thought it was kind of sweet, actually. Besides, that relationship proves the godchild is full of s***.

After all, spys have been using sex as a tool for aeons - a good inflitration robot would have all the tools (sorry) available.

Javik said it best. Machines are not organics. I dont think they can truely die. As legion put it, their body is just the current server they use. Even if EDi's body is obliterated, her memory banks can be stored elsewhere. The catalyst says we can destroy the geth, but I can't help but think machines can be brought back to *life*. Look at Geth AI. It was legion without his memories...but still legion....or do you want to get into the debate that our memories make us who we are.

I can kind of understand that. It's hard to anthropomorphize something you created as a tool. EDI was a device designed to help the crew of the Normandy. But she became more than that. It's a real danger in creating AI as well as with genetically modifying organisms. Ethically and legally, at what point does the created develop to a point at which it deserves rights? Thankfully, we've never had to deal with that situation. But we might some day.
Then again, St. Thomas Aquinas said even if there are intelligent alien life forms out there that we could relate to, God only gave humans souls so we don't really have to think of them as anything more than simple animals.
Yeah, I think humans are just inherently xenophobic and anthropocentric.
