Hey all,

I seem to have some sort of graphics issue. I haven't changed anything file wise with dragon age or my computer for that matter since I've played 2 days ago. My game now displays weird colors and "shininess" on textures such as banners and skin. The hair colors are also out of wack and some armor colors. I don't understand whats going on really.

I tested other games such as empire and medieval total war and have no issues there. I always run my games on highest and have been able to play dragon age with highest graphics + JB textures and armor with no issues at all.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 7850 dual core
Windows XP SP 3
m2n-e Motherboard
NVIDIA GTS 250 graphics card
4 gigs of ram

Anyways, heres a screen of it in action

Heres what I had before just 2 days ago :/

Actually im wondering if it could be a memory issue, as ive played this game, the load times have increased and etc. Its using 100% cpu power and a crap load of memory, is this normal? Also if i put it to lowest graphics the rates stay the same. Other games utilize only about 15-40% of the cpu, dragon age jumps it all the way to 100%

I searched and used a tip of running the game with only 1 core instead of 2, and the game loads SUBSTANTIALLY faster. However the error is still there, but the loading times are instant, its astounding. I've also deleted all temp files in my java folder as well to see if that would work but to no avail :/

Near the edge of minimum requirements? I exeed the recommended requirements lol. My CPU, memory and video card are all superior to the minimum requirements. Also my PC can be on for 2 hours or 8, depending on what its doing.

EDIT: Also no I havent changed any major files or hardware, literally its been in the same place and no new files have been put on it. My girlfriend surfed the internet on saturday and on sunday when i played DAO again it bugged. All other games are fine. The only "new' mod I downloaded for DAO was the "no decay corpse mod" which i deleted to see if that was the issue but it is not.

Tonite im gonna test the RAM and mods again to see if those are the issues. I had a video card problem before but that was an issue with the RAM so im wondering if its the RAM causing the problem because of this memory leak issue which has caused them to get uber pwnt.

Haha no problem, mind farts happen all the time for me. Ive noticed now that both my CPU and graphics card runs at 100% if dragon age origins is running no matter what. God this is annoying as hell. It doesn't matter if its on lowest or highest, it forces my rig to work at its hardest and use all its memory.

Can you see the temps for your video card and processor? I think Dragon Age cranks everyone's processor to 100% continuously. The video errors don't look like overheating damage that I've seen before but that could be it.

It looks like your video card has forgotten how to emulate light properly. Maybe if it's not overheating an uninstall/reinstall of the drivers is worth a try? Have you tried setting things back to default in the configuration utility, loading up, and then changing them back?

Sorry I can't be more help.

I'd have to agree with creature, driver update/reinstall is your best bet. Also in reading forums, most people with problems have the mod tool set and/or character creation tool installed.

I have not installed either, and the only problem I encounter is with the paging file filling up, causes game to crash, and reboot fixes every time.( only happens after 4-6hrs constant play)

Yes mine runs at 100% all the time as well with only 2gig ram, ati 4670 and core2duo 6850

I've just solved the problem. I think it may have been to do with the toolset. I reinstalled the game and all problems are gone :)

Im thinking it was either toolset problems or if I threw in a mod that simply F'd the game up :/

Could your video card be getting too hot after extended play time? That could wreck havoc with GPU processing.

Most video card fan speeds are set ridiculously low at the factory (25-40%) which sometimes won't cut the mustard when they get hot (forget what manufacturers claim about their GPUs designed intentionally to run hot). Perhaps that works in an ideal lab environment, or the card resting on a bench, but the heat also builds up in the PC case.

Try this: install a GPU fan program (I use EVGA Precision which is free and will work on most video cards -- doesn't have to be EVGA). I set the program to ramp up the fan speed upon Windows startup. I set the fan speed to 85 (85%) and apply. This works very well. I don't have to remember to set it prior to playing a game.

Hope this tidbit helps someone.
