What is so great about Liara?

I'm big on girls that are demure, submissive and a bit passive, but still intelligent and very passionate about the few specific things they are passionate about, rather typical bookish nerd girls.
Add to that a vulnerability, a woman who may not actively require you to hold her damn hand to get anywhere, but really appreciates it when you do support her - and when you just take her hand in yours to show you're there. She doesn't need me to make her stronger, but she's happier with me there for her.
She's very awkward and vulnerable in ME1 and, if you romance her there and continue it into ME2 LotSB and ME3, it becomes very apparent how her overt strength in those games is mostly necessity and her sweet heart is still inside there, you just need to stay close to allow her to let you back inside. It's a romance I find both realistic and idealistically heartwarming where it's all about the idea of true love where the only reason you need your partner is because you've chosen to depend on them.
Add to all that, she has a beautiful voice, nice personality and she's blue, that's 9 reasons why I think Liara is great and ahead of every other LI including Kaidan, Garrus and Tali by astronomical amounts.
Wait, no, 10;
Singularity.

Those are problematic as well, but neither Garrus and Joker are as important as ****ing Liara.

I just don't get why some people like Liara so much. In my opinion, she feels too forced onto the players and the game makes her seem so important, and that you should like her because of all of the bonding moments you have with her. But that's just my opinion.
So Liara fans, why DO you like Liara so damn much?
She is blue

Yes, having Liara help Shepard with what she knows is incredibly insulting to you, isn't it?

Ya, I totoally agree. I hate it how Kaiden is forced to not be my friend and distrust me, and how Harbinger is trying to kill me. It's so forced. Why couldn't he just be my friend. It has nothing to do with their character and personality. Every relationship should be exactly like Liara.

Yes but can she please stop coming into my room when Shepard is sleeping. I get the feeling she wants to do more than talk when I am there.

Fixed that for you. I'll never understand people attracted to that "hey, I'm barely legal!" crap.
Liara's youth is another aspect of her character that gets greatly exaggerated by her detractors on the BSN. She is 106 years old in Mass Effect 1, and Samara indicates that Morinth reached adulthood in her 40s. But even if we didn't know when Asari reach adulthood, Liara had a doctorate and was working as an archaeologist. How many children are university educated and employed as scientists?
It is hard to say exactly what the human equivalent of 106 Asari years is, but it is obviously a young adult.
In fact out of all the romance options Tali was arguably the youngest. Obviously Liara was older in terms of years, but I also think she was older in terms of life stage. Tali had just left home in ME1 (making her the equivalent of a human at 18 or 19), whereas Liara had been independent for a number of years.

Yup,her childlike persona and obsessiveness were unsettling in ME1, not as bad as Merril but still.

Her not even grasping the concept of humor (just lol) in ME1 is a perfect example of how she's an overgrown child and how she's the kind of character that a basement dweller with little to no interaction with women would write.

Yeah, Merrill was pretty damn bad. She was cute as a friend (believe it or not, I could handle her on that level) but the idea of romancing her just makes me want to vomit.

Though to be fair Liara had some of that same shy and awkward vibe in ME1. When Tali became the shy and awkward geek romance in ME2, Liara was made a bit more mature. The intent was probably just so they wouldn't be the same character with different skins, but I think it worked out in Liara's favor. I like her a lot better after she is an information broker.

She specifically states "barely more than a child" (or maybe 'hardly', don't remember, not willing to subject myself to her voice to find out). So barely/hardly an adult. Seriously, disgusts me to a degree that I cannot accurately describe.
My husband's grandfather was taking care of his siblings at 14 years of age (working full time, though he had to lie about his age) following his parents' deaths, extreme case but it happened. He was independent, but it doesn't mean he was suddenly catapulted to being an adult mentally and physically.

Still, she's a hundred times better than this vindictive little girl that hopes the reapers kill you. The mission would likely fail in the process. www.youtube.com/watch

What makes Merrill so horrid is that she has the Liara childlike persona AND a childlike physique to go with it. That she's portrayed as a sex object to boot is just .... ugh.

It means that she is a young adult. There is nothing disgusting about Liara's age, unless you find people in their early 20s to be too young.
