The problem: Everyone gets this stuff. The gift, the time-capsule, every talk Liara hits on Shepard to see if he's okay... too many players have next to no romance content with their own LI, but these players still get all these scenes with Liara. I guess that's why so many start to dislike her.Y3Y00 wrote...
She's the one that genuinely cares the most about Shepard; was so devoted to find him. I instantly loved her after the awkward conversation in ME1 where Shepard says: "It seems like you want to dissect me in a lab" and she gets all awkward, it's just admirable. And being alien makes her unique from Miranda, Ash...etc. and the time capsule scene and the 'gift' scene are authenticly beautiful, and she's presented very well. And no, I didn't do it for the sex scene, hell, I didn't even watch it...

Bet I would get far more Ashley-haters if I would ask the same question for her
Liara is okay. Not special, even when the writers did everything to put her in every key scene when possible. Actually, some of Liara's scenes (time capsule, comfort ...) which are available to everyone, regardless if romancing her or not, should have been romance-exclusive content. Means: if your LI is Kaidan, Kaidan should do those scenes. If it's Miranda, Miranda should do them. Same for Ashley, Thane, ...
So no "hate" on my side. The only sad feeling I have is meant for the writers who missed a lot of great opportunities to make the LI the most important person next to Shepard. No, it had to be Liara. Why?

What you said was a little stupid Liara shows you the time-capsule is RIGHT for her character (she is an archaelogist)
the other romances should have something different but still every romance and character has their moments
And also noone mentions that Liara has almost ZERO lines to say between missions(exept the cutscenes) even Cortez has more lines in that department that is were liara "loses''
And about the COMFORT Scene would you rather vega was in liaras place? your squadmates were only liara and vega
I agree that ME2 romances were let downs in ME3 but the majority of the players romance garrus- liara-tali so you had it coming

The entire time capsule plot could have been added later. It was a nice touch. And, as I said, the scene itself makes more sense with the LI. Okay, we can argue here, Liara is an archeologist, so she's not a bad pick for that scene - still, the same scene with the LI at a later portion of the game gives that LI far more impact.
Liara has less lines between the missions than Vega or Garrus and a lack of lines in the middle part of the game. However, she still has more random lines than both VS together.
I must say, there are TWO comfort scenes:
I was talking about the one after Thessia - it makes sense to comfort Liara, but seriously: Thessia wasn't hit that bad as Palaven or Earth. Everyone talks as if Thessia was lost and destroyed - but that's just not true.
Since Shepard gets defeated here, there should have been a second comfort scene with the LI - period. It's not all about Liara, ya know.
And the other comfort scene makes most sense with the LI. Also it's a writer's decision - why not moving that scene to a later part of the game where all primary LIs are on board and locked in?
Whatever, there's no chance someone will change that. Liara acts a bit too much like a lover than a friend ... and that annoys some ppl.
How would you feel if every important / emotional scene that could have been done with your LI Liara shows Ashley instead?
It's not "most fans".LelianaHawke wrote...

"Most fans" have another LI than Liara. However, out of the full set of romances only Liara is guaranteed to be in ME3 ... everyone else can die before that point OR gets introduced in ME3 (gay options).

First of all Thessia wasnt hit bad? Dont you remember the thessia codex when you visit the planet?it says the reapers were there in FORCE because it was difficult to put down a race full with biotics the planet fall and had the same losses just like the other major planets millions are dying by the day even if it had just began did you expect to be all cool and nice?
Also you know that because liara has more scenes people that romance liara are also dissapointed because in the capsule scene-after the fall of thessia its the same as the ones that didnt romance her so liara isnt in favour of the people that romance her but a ''neutral ground character''
but still liara wasnt a character that you saw first time in ME3 she is been with since ME1 she is the reason that you are still alive from the collector attack why all the stupid hate to such a good character?(one of the best for me)

About Thessia: I don't really care for what the Codex says - it has its issues. Earth got hit -really- bad - the main body of the entire Reaper Armada attacked that planet and remained there. Whatever the Reapers send to Thessia, it was a far smaller force. Maybe the fleet attacking Thessia had more specialized ground troops and Destroyers, but still - we just saw the beginning of the invasion.
Given the fact Shepard needs at least a month or two between "leaving Earth" and "returning to Earth" PLUS the fact the Protheans were able to hold ground against the Reapers for centuries, I say the Reapers didn't destroy Thessia with the first attack.
Thessia is still there. Believe me.
About Liara!fans being disappointed: yeah, I can see that. You are disappointed because your romance doesn't feel "special" anymore since most of the scenes are available to anyone. The fans of other characters are disappointed because it was Liara and not their LI in those scenes.
Result? We're fighting on the same side here: the said scenes should have been done by the LI. Period.
I'm with the series since 2008 (PC release). Liara's role in ME1 was pretty much even with the rest of the crew. She had no additional scenes, her romance wasn't better or worse than the one for Kaidan or Ashley.
Things changed in ME2 (DLC for Liara but nothing for the VS) and finally got it's climax in ME3 (most content, most plot relevant influence next to Shepard) while nearly the entire cast of ME2 got sidelined with few exceptions like Mordin. Not to speak about the poor treatment of the VS.
No, that's no reason for me to hate Liara.
I don't hate her, nope - it's the other way: I like her. She displays how other characters should have been treated too. Remember the feature "it's your game, your decisions"? I simply want Ashley in place of Liara. Others want Miranda, Jack, Thane, Kaidan - you name it. That's all. Choice should matter.
I already said it's midnight - I should go now ^^

unless it's just because she gets so much screen time.
Probably this, character has no real role in games. Bioware just changes it in every game so they can fit her on story
ME1 prothean expert - Ilos
ME2 she suddenly recovered Shepard's body and later become Shadow Broker
ME3 again, her story is changed so she can become part of main story. Suddenly she is on Mars with blueprints, but after that there is not actually any use for her. Bioware just want to keep character on main group even when it makes no sense.
BW seems to be struggling in to decide who is she and how to keep her in story, too bad its all messed up in ME3 with badly done "forced" contact with Her

The better question is how BioWare fails to realize that its handling of her is a recipe for resentment.
I think it is actually more evidence the game was rushed.
In ME3, unlike the previous games, you can REALLY tell where the romances are, even if you arn't playing them. It's most noticable with Liara, but happens with all the of other charachers also. You can always just tell where you would transition to the romance sections if you were in a romance.
I'm pretty sure at least some of Liara's scenes were meant to be part of the romance arc and then were forced in for eveyone. And it really shows.
You didn't have this in the previous games. You didn't have this weird, pseudo-romantic intro dialogue that happened for everyone, followed by either the romance or non-romance versions. In the previous games they did a much better job keeping the tone of conversations with a charachter matching the relationship.
In ME3, you get this wierd semi-romance stuff even when you arn't in a romance. Liara has it the most, but it's pretty obvious in some of the meeting with Miranda, when you first meet Tali, and at various points with STEEEEVEEEE.
Anyway, I think that is alot of the hate. In previous games, the romance/nonromance conversations and transitions were handled much better.

Why do you like Tali so much?
Why do you like Ashley so much?
Why do you like Miranda so much?
My friends lean on my shoulder more than I can count. They are not my brother
, my sister, my lover. And you can reject that scene, what is the point?
In real life your emotion is yours to control. You can't control other, same with Liara, why do you want to control her emotion?
You complain about a character that can't die and when some characters or Shepard die you complain again. Funny. Btw how can I kill Hacket, James, Javik?
You hope someone on your side to die, what have they done to hurt you? Nothing? I can't understand that.
Like or hate that is your emotion, but please don't troll.

LOL, these Liara fans are insufferable. People have some very legitimate gripes with her character. She's forced on you in just about every way: squad, story, friendship, even pseudo-romance. To some degree, every character is a bit forced on you, but none are to the extent Liara is (and other characters being forced is no excuse for her).
If you take that away, most have no issue with her. You can't take it away though, they've written her to be that ultimate Mary Sue and fans resent her for it in more ways than one. And that affects the story, for everyone, like it or not. But her fans don't care about any of that. They just tell you to "deal with it." They even have a picture of Liara floating around with text reading "deal with it" from how often they have to answer to Liara's contrived importance in the series!
My opinion on her is this: great friend (in-universe); awful character (OOU). I'd like her so much better if she weren't half the story. As is, ME3 often becomes The Liara Show with no way for the player to avoid it. NOT GOOD!
