Hello everyone!

Does anybody else check the location of the host before a match?...
I do, and it is quite interesting on what I find...

It seems every single match I get in is from either Croatia, Germany, England, Sweden, Russia, France, Mexico, or Canada.

Only 1/15 matches seems to be from the United States.

Does the matchmaking prioritize other countries to add diversity or something?

Some are so laggy that I cannot even use a power, like literally, for about 4-5 seconds after hitting the button.

I hate leaving, especially because they usually down-vote me for Quit Early and stuff, but jeez matchmaker... I just want maybe 2/3 of matches being in my own country!

BW had to know this was going to cause some problems, and they went forward anyway. It would seem to me they decided that the number of instances would be small, and therefore not be a problem.

Bioware is very good at many things, thinking ahead isn't one of them.

Silly question - hoe do you check host location?

The most laggy match I ever experienced was with russian host - definitely a few seconds lag.

Well on Xbox you can just view the hosts profile.

Not sure about PC/PS3.

Dunno. Most games I find are on american hosts and I'm from Norway. Don't find the lag bad at all really, but then again I have a really good connection.

I wonder if they even implemented a regional filter... I doubt it.

On the PC - I do check by having my network resource monitor open. I can see the IP/hostname of users in the lobby.

If I'm paranoid about latency, I'd due a traceroute to the most distant user.

I'm from western Canada, yet I'm closer to the US than I am to the majority of Canada. I, for one, and glad that it doesn't restrict matchmaking to a particular country.

The cap for public matches should be 1,000 miles though....

After that no matter how fast your connection is there will usually be a 1+ second lag. Unless they have some sort of laser internet beam directly to your house.

I don't mind playing with my friends in Sweden and Europe because they have some pretty sick connection speeds or something.

No lag whatsoever when playing with Crimson, and he is in Sweden.

I'm pretty sure most of my games are with an american host. It's pretty noticeable when I get a european one, given that I'm on the opposite end of the world from europe.

Maybe it's a time of day thing?

I doubt it....

I play from like 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM which includes times that Americans play.

Wow... today I took a tally of the matches I played.

(Or at least joined the lobbies of... then left because I saw where people were from. Seriously... it mixes people from over like 1000+ miles away every match for some reason, and expects you not to lag?!?!?)

1st lobby:
Italy
Australia
Mexico

2nd:
Germany
United Kingdom
Canada

3rd:
Australia
United Kingdom
France

4th:
Spain
Japan
Norway

5th:
Czechoslovakia
Sweden
Canada

6th:
United States
United Kingdom
France

7th (Finally!):
United States
United States
Canada

It took me about 45 minutes to find one decent match where the lag was not over 4 seconds long. I had to leave lobbies with Australian hosts... they are apparently really bad... (Shoot enemy in the head with Javelin... reload, cloak again, aim for the next shot, and then the enemy dies from the previous headshot.)

WHY can't you make it so that we have a slightly better MM for lag?

I would prefer less than 999ms!

Really.... how well do you think Italy is going to connect to Mexico, then to Australia, then to me in the United States?!?!? That is thousands of miles away to bounce information that needs to be done almost instantly to have any enjoyment!

This irks me too. Between drop-in games and matchmaking with distant peers, getting a decent lag-free match is a minority occurrence. I got stuck in a few different matches today with Russians. Man, that lagged bad. I got hit and killed by stuff before enemies visibly attacked. FYI, this is on the PC. Sometimes, I'll get slow domestic hosts too, but those can be avoided too if we had some semblance of a ping meter.

These problems are all normal and well-documented problems facing multiplayer games for the past decade-and-a-half. Alas, somehow this game was designed to ignore fifteen years of basic multiplayer functionality.

Weird, I thought they had at least a regional filter .__. but then again I always have games with people from US/UK..

Since we can't check on the PC the laggy hosts whose location I'm sure of is New Zealand and Australia.
Non-laggy ones were with someone from Serbia, Europe and Singapore/Malaysia or HongKong?

and I'm in South East Asia

I'd even go for the 80s. They split in 93.
But yeah. I live in Poland and in 1986 I was kickin' ass with my PS3.

Well that's what his profile said!

I guess it meant the Czech Republic... but whatever.

I have been playing the Xbox 720 since 1942! B)

On the PC - I'm in New Zealand, depending on the time of dayI find a lot of games hosted from Russia and Poland, and to a lesser extent France, Germany, and Italy.

I usuall get lag issues connecting to hosts in Russia, Poland, and eastern european countries.

IF the player have put their location in Xbox :bandit: There is possibility that there is nothing on profile or that place it says is:alien:(out of space!). Most people tell where they are on Earth thank the Goddness.

I'm from Finland (North Europa/Scandinavia) and most people I play with have been from USA or Canada some French and couple UK. Once in a party Swedish:ph34r:

Actually you can still see what region they selected for their language/region or whatever for a split second when viewing their profile. Then it switches to whatever they have it to on their real profile. (Normandy, Rannoch etc. lol)

You lie.
Xbox 720 didn't come out until 1945. Unless you got SDK, and you didn't.
