So after the whole mass effect 3 ending debacle im scared to try play dragonage because i heard da2 was bad (never played so dont know how it failed)
my question is should i invest my time in playing these games or has bioware lost thier touch?
Are the games any good?
Should I start Dragon age?

I've never played Dragon Age 2, except for a demo. That was all I needed to know. You don't need to play it either. Origins is amazing on its own.
And coming into the Dragon Age Origins forum with a question like this you should know that everyone is going to tell you to buy it, right?

I really enjoy the ending to DAO. I've never played awakening. DragonAge:Origins is a great game. I'm not sure how you see it after playing MassEffect. I haven't played that either but I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

I can only offer you MY opinion, yours may differ depending on your tastes.
IMO DAO is the best one out of all of them, done exceptionally well with room for expansion of the story, came with a toolset (who doesn't just LOVE that) characters had their own personalities and had a story behind them that you could unravel as the game progressed and whatever material was reused, didn't stand out over much to me.
Awakening was too short and just didn't have the same ability to hold my interest, but I liked how the decisions you made a real impact on how the game turned out later, an increase in level cap, skills and classes was also nice.
DA2 was a massive letdown in my eyes, I felt like it was just thrown together, lacked any form of real tactics in battle (mash and thrash, but I did like the increased speed, felt like you needed to be quick about your actions, like a real battle would) characters and companions seemed blank (aside from maybe your sister, but she shared the name and haircolour of my RL sister so I had an affinity with her from the start), recycled areas were overused and the lack of any real world map made the whole experience feel tiny in comparison to the first installment and as for the 2 forced "boss fights" in the end it felt the only effect I had in the actual scheme of things was setting a new trend with the attire my character was wearing.
Thats my view of the games, as I said before, yours may differ depending on your tastes.

Get Origins for sure. It was Bioware's last true RPG, and one of their best. If you want to try out DA2, go ahead, but you do not want to miss out on Origins.

Dragon Age: Origins is an amazing game that I think most people here will agree is well worth your time if you love Bioware's earlier games, Baulder's Gate 2 and other classic Western RPG's. Even if you don't, it's still an amazing game that's well worth anyone's time. ^^

DA:O is, in my opinion, Bioware's finest. Parts of ME were fantastic, but each installment had some rather notable flaws. DA:O may not be perfect, but it's the most solid and well-rounded a game they've made in the last 5 years, with some of the finest characters and dialogue.
It's true all the follow-up products have been pretty shoddy - the DLC ranged from mediocre to frankly embarrassing, the expansion was unsatisfying, and DA2 was very deeply flawed. But taken on its own it's a thing of gaming beauty.

To OP - absolutely you should. DA:O is the best game to have come out of Bioware since BG2.
I just started yet another playthrough to get my mind of the disaster that was ME3's ending. DA:O feels like an actual RPG, has a great story, great replay value, and decidedly non-sucky endings, where you can play things out in a few different ways, and where you get closure, and get to know what happened to people you knew afterwards. They may not be the most innovative things out there, but they work, are satisfying, and non-gimmicy.
Now I didn't dislike DA2 as so many did, but it was a pale shadow of it's predecessor.

Origins rocks. If you have the extra cash id buy the ultimate edition. comes with all the add ons, and the expansion Awakening. I think you ca buy it for $25 new on amazon well worth it. Da2 i didn't really bother playing it after i played the demo and read some reviews on it so i cant really say anything for it.

DAO is a most excellent game. It won a bunch of awards and deservedly so. As for DA2, opinions vary greatly.

DAO is an great game. Get it, play it, love it. I just recently started another playthrough after about a year break from the game, it's still muy excelente!
DA2... first off I loved it while admitting it has many faults though the only ones that bothered me were clearly because of a rushed game and cut budget. For the price you can get it new it's well worth it. Trust me you've wasted money on things you like less as long as you go in with realistic expectations and you just might end up loving it despite the flaws.

Dragon Age origins is basically enhanced kotor and on a par with BioWare's earlier classics.
Dragon Age II is not bad too. It's still an ok-ish game for me.

Yes, whathever you have to pay for the Ultimate Edition is absolutely worth it, DAO is my favorite game of all times....DA2...maybe if you have radioactive money burning through your pockets AND you find it in a bargain bin....play the demo first.

And yeah, in my opinion since DAO, Bioware kinda began to lost its touch
