So I couldn't find a thread that was about who you romanced. I could find threads about HOW to romance someone, but not why you wanted to romance them.

I have only played through ME1 and am working on ME2.

I started ME1 was a horrible racist. I got Garrus on my team simply because I was about to go and illegally kill someone, I wanted the air of legitimacy on my side so I took Garrus with me. That way if anyone gets their nose out of joint I can say "No, it was legit. I had CSEC sancitioning this!" (I didn't understand the difference between CSEC and Spectres until afterwards).

That said, I considered Commander Shepard to be the Captain James T Kirk of the Mass Effect universe. As such, I bumped uglies with Shiara before even becoming a Spectre. I went "right, that was fun. But I'm not going to pursue a relationship with her because (1) as much as Kirk liked the blue ladies, he always had humans as his serious relationship pursuits (2) she's a high priced hooker."

As such, I decided to pursue a relationship with Ashley. As time went on I became less of a racist and started appreciating the aliens on my team. Particularly Wrex. Then Liara came on board as a studious type and I became interested in all the information on the Protheans that she knew.

However as Shepard grew in character, Ashley remained the same racist she was at the start of the game. As such we started growing apart and so I started drifting towards Liara. Liara point blank asked me if I was interested and I said yes. She then asked if I was interested in Ashley and I said yes. I was conflicted.

Ultimately I abandoned my relationship with Ashley and pursued Liara exclusively. And that's the reason why.

I'm curious who other people pursued and why.

As a paragon, always Liara, because I consider myself as more of a paragon in real life and my own fiance is a PhD candidate. I'd never cheat on her, and I didn't cheat on Liara in game.  However, I'm a military man and I have many friends that are Marines. Their motto is hit it and quit it. When I play renegade, I play as a "real" marine. I hit Ashley, quit it, then hit Miranda, quit it, hit Chambers, quit it, then hit Ashley again and quit it before finally saving the galaxy.
