The reason you don't see more of us is because being a girl gamer, is a nightmare online.(Especially xboxlive) Most male gamers will add you to their freind list, for the fact you're a female, and not because you're a gamer.<_< (To be fair male RPG gamers are far more civilised, then there COD counter-parts.)
I see you guys online all the time, I just never encountered a real girl gamer. Well, take that back, I met a few girls that played CoD or WoW or the Sims or any of those other mainstream games. But as far as playing Mass Effect? KOTOR? The Elder Scrolls? Never.
So, cute girls liking Mass Effect on youtube

A lot of female play games, but they don't really talk about it as openly as guys do. I've met plenty of female gamers, and they have all been different in looks, favorite genres etc. Both hardcore and casual. (Funnily enough, I've never met a female Sims fan.) Female gamers are all individuals just like male gamers, there's no "typical female gamer".

Really? While I hesistate to call my friends gamers, all of them love the Sims (and one is borderline addicted). As for people like me who are really hardcore (I even had a part time job gameplay testing for a good long while) and female, there are quite a few around yes. But I hesistate to say 50%. The issue is that I find alot of the time men in games try to take advantage of you while other girls look down on you. It's not really a nice place to be. And so alot of girls shy away from it, most are casual at most. Then again not 50% of guys are hardcore gamers either.
For example in Highschool (well the Uk equivalent), I tried to hang out with the gaming group for a bit (all guys), but alot of them looked down on me because I was a girl. Despite the fact that to be honest, I knew more about games than any of them (they were the WoW, LOL, Minecraft, COD crowd and didn't really look at games beyond those titles) they just auto assumed that I was either desperate or bad at games. So in that vein they never invited me to play online with them or anything.

Are you serious? Far more girls play games like Mass Effect, KOTOR, Elder Scrolls than CoD. Girls I tend to find don't enjoy FPS as much as RPG. Mainly because RPGs tend to play out like stories and have side doses of romance and such. Whereas one could argue that CoD is mindless violence which not all girls dig. Just look at BSN, there is a huge amount of girls here compared to say CoD boards and Resident Evil boards.
In fact Bioware's female fanbase is quite big, just look at the character romance threads

We've been forced to hide for so long that it's habbitual, maybe? I go into my local store and the dude over the counter hits on me. It took him a while to accept that, I did, in fact ,play videogames.(And was not buying them for my non-existant husband and children.)
Really? The RPG market has alot of female customers. You're more likely to get a girl to admit to playing skyrim then C.O.D

When I was saying almost 50% of gamers are now female, I was referring to actual studies. The amount of female gamers is rising faster than male gamers. Every year they release new studies on gamers and the amount of female gamers is every time bigger. 50% is probably achieved soon. In some platforms, like the PSP, the majority are already female.
For reasons I don't understand, many guys seem to get a little aggressive when these numbers are brought up. They start talking about "bored housewives" and their casual games, or flat out refuse to believe the numbers.
Many seem to base this on the fact that they don't personally know any gamer females. I don't know how many ladies they personally know well enough to know their interests, but typically women don't talk about games the way guys do. For a lot of guys gaming is somewhat social, at least in the way it's something to talk about with friends. The gaming women I've know, gaming is something they do alone and don't talk about with friends. There's still stigma attached to gaming in "girl culture". I've been talking about my gaming pretty openly, and I've gotten many girls "confessing" they like games too, but many females also seem to think less of me because of it. I'm not surprised if other females like to keep their gaming hobby to themselves. Just like if you were a guy who liked cross stitching, you'd probably not talk about it to a lot of people.

I may have to stage an intervention soon

Probably. I wouldn't go "Hiya! Did you know I play games?" but I wouldn't lie if you asked me if I've heard of Mass Effect. Simple solution would be to hack into their computers and see if there are any games installed.tractrpl wrote...

Guys stalking girls simply because they enjoy games is really creepy. Do you think a girl actually wants to talk to someone who is creepy?

Shortly before this happened, the host had run off after hearing said girl hadn't played ME yet to pick up her copy of ME, shove it in her hands and pretty much went "try it out for a little bit right away, it's awesome." I was nodding in approval, adding that I'd love to watch as someone else played the game for the first time. She preferred to borrow the game instead though =)
I love meeting female gamer nerds! =D Reminds me that I'm not alone out there, haha ^^ Perhaps as we get more and more numerous, there will be less crap (and creepiness - the two C's of being a girl gamer) thrown our way online!

It can be stupid causal games on facebook, The Sims, 1, 2, and 3. to RPG's like dragon age origins and da2 and all three mass effect games. I love elder scrolls games Morrowind and Skyrim..I didn't care for Obliviion). I think the saints row games are freaking hilarious. I loved fall out 3 and Fall Out New Vegas. the only MMO's I play are lord of the rings online and star wars the old republic. I've been playing games since my dad bought a comedore 64. from the NES, SNES, and so on. back in the day playing final fantasy and legion of zelda and mario titles) PS1 and 2, to now playing on my computer as well as my ps3.
I openly admit to being a gamer girl to my guilds in both MMOs and have never had a problem with the weirdness that some girls have gotten online.
the only thing that came close is that I once had someone that wanted in game to take my elf in LOTRO on a date....yeah..that was a bit weird. I ran away from that guy and you know...actually played the game.

I have to be ..physically ATTRACTED to Garrus?
Thats what your saying right..?
Not the fact that this game has aliens who have sexy voices and badass personalities? Us girls can't go on that?
Dammit I knew I should of got with Jacobs boring personality but he has physical appearence.
But what about Tali? You don't see her photoface, at least we see Garrus..

What part of I have a sexy fiancé PhD candidate don't you understand? I don't want a gamer girlfriend, I just think its strange that I've never met one. To me, I don't know where they exist. It's just strange. Do they hide under a rock somewhere?
