Yes, girl gamers exist.. and NO... they don't want to meet you in person. No, they probably don't want to talk to you on-line either. Why?

Guys stalking girls simply because they enjoy games is really creepy. Do you think a girl actually wants to talk to someone who is creepy?

What part of I have a sexy fiancé PhD candidate don't you understand? I don't want a gamer girlfriend, I just think its strange that I've never met one. To me, I don't know where they exist. It's just strange. Do they hide under a rock somewhere?

I think the question should be: how far out of your ways do you go to meet hardcore nerds among whom there could be female gamers who might be playing Mass Effect?

You'd find them at gaming or sci-fi conventions, anything that attracts geeks of all sorts. That means you have to be open to everyone, not just the specific demographic you're interested in (for reasons I don't want to know, I'll assume it's just healthy curiosity, but it is a sensitive topic after all).

This is true. In my youth, I picked up girls at popular night clubs. Then I met some girls in college, but not many, there aren't many girls in engineering,so the ones that are there are less likely to be gamers. I met my fiancé through an online dating website. I met very many girls there, one worked for a game company, she did concept art, but she wasn't really a gamer herself though. Out of those hundreds of girls I met through online dating, not a one was a gamer. Hmph. You'd think gamer girls might do online dating, but maybe they don't need to, LOL, that's what the MMO servers are for :P

Oh, and my current job has basically no girls outside of HR. it's not that girls can't apply for this job, it's just that not many do get involved in military tech. There are few tech girls to begin with, much less military tech women.

 = that was my face, right when I started reading what I just highlighted.

Dating services are the WORST. Talk about creepy, and putting labels on people. Two things that intelligent, self-respecting, independant woman are against. Not accusing your wife of not being any of these things, I don't know her.

But you... you need to stop thinking in terms of labels, or that any girl out there is available for socializing. Just because they're "hiding under a rock" doesn't mean that they're somehow not worthy of society. It's society that is not worthy of them.

(Not putting gamer girls on a pedestal, I don't know you and I'm not interested in being your friend just because you're female)

Well, I don't anybody, male, or female that plays Mass Effect. Ugh. It's so frustrating because it's nice to be able to talk with people about something you like. IRL.

And I have tried to get others into the series. Preached the Mass Effect doctrine every chance. It's like I'm a zealot. They just smile and nod. I'm sure they're thinking, "Oh, it's that Mass Efftectian preaching again."

I do know gamers that play the MW and GoW stuff. Which is cool, but they seem to think Mass Effect is cotton candy, or something.

But I tell ya, when I do wrangle someone into playing either the MP, or the SP....they always--always up the difficulty setting. Way high...cuz...they can handle it. They've got "skillz". They're not worried.

Lol. The look of shock and confusion when they get their azz handed to them.....Priceless.

Some of you geeky types really really need to get a life.

Gaming is big business now. Back in the day, no, a girl didn't want to sit there for 20 minutes waiting for the C64 to load a shooting game.

But even as early as Mario and Zelda, there have been plenty of gamer girls. The more games become big business like movies, the more girls are going to be just as interested. Especially now there are games tailored to female players with romances and things.

And some of them are probably better than you at it too. Gamers are far too sexist and stereotypical.

A lot of guys are still in denial about how many girl gamers exist nowadays. It's really closing in 50% these days. Guys that automatically assume that everyone on the Internet is a guy, unless proven otherwise. People often mistake me for a guy, despite me having a female avatar.

A lot of female play games, but they don't really talk about it as openly as guys do. I've met plenty of female gamers, and they have all been different in looks, favorite genres etc. Both hardcore and casual. (Funnily enough, I've never met a female Sims fan.) Female gamers are all individuals just like male gamers, there's no "typical female gamer".

I would agree with this. I knew many women who like video games. Their individual taste runs all over the spectrum from puzzle games to hard core rpgers.

Yeah, I mean I like him, like I like Tali, but if I was a girl I don't think I'd be able to choose him as a LI just cause I don't think I'd be physically attractive to me. I think that part needs to be realistic for me...

SO WAIT ..
I have to be ..physically ATTRACTED to Garrus?:o
Thats what your saying right..?
Not the fact that this game has aliens who have sexy voices and badass personalities? Us girls can't go on that?

Dammit I knew I should of got with Jacobs boring personality but he has physical appearence.
But what about Tali? You don't see her photoface, at least we see Garrus..:D:whistle:

Well, with Tali we can imagine she has a pretty face, but yeah, that's why I couldn't go with her. I suppose that's why I'm a shallow @sshole

Well Brandon Keener is sexy so theres the phyisical attraction for Garrus.

I've been a "gamer girl" since I was 4 years old. I'm quite an obsessive console RPG player. I don't go too much into other types of games though. I tend to get into the story of a game more than anything.

I don't have any friends male or female who play games, so its not something I talk about in real life.It is something I hide though since I have gotten flack for it in the past. I spent most of my teen years in front of my PlayStation 2 playing and replaying obscure JRPG's. My mother didn't like this and told me I needed to grow up. She said doing things like that are OK for "12 year old boys", but girls need to be more mature.

I sometimes feel a little weird going into gamestop. There are mostly guys in there and I am shy and I'm shy around men, so I usually buy online.... Its like I'm "in the closet" about this. :/ However, I just bought 2 Mass Effect t-shirts with Garrus and Liara on them, so I'm being more open about it haha.

This is probably just my own hangups though. From what I can tell, theses forums prove that there are tons of girl gamers out there, its just that they tend to not be as vocal about it.

That kinda made me cuckle. ^_^
Me and my group of friends will talk hours and hours about games including Mass Effect. I've even thrown Halo tournament parties. XD
I know I'm a nerd and I'm damn proud of it too! :P

Of course they exist, that's like saying "are there english people who aren't Christian?" There always will be multiple parts to any area, in this case: Male and Female, in other cases, (absolutely no offence intended) black and white, american and british, the list is endless. One kind of person isn;t the only kind of person to enjoy a certain thing. I'm british ,and I like pies, but that doesn't mean that there isn't an american or a woman out there who doesn't like pies.

If something is open to all people, you can expect at least some of every kind people to go to it. Frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Even if the internet is a harsh, racist, sexist and anti-religion object used by many so selfish people, it would be a worse place if not for the diversity of race, gender, and religion, Diveristy is the magic of life, and it is wonderful to see that many different people have different ways of looking at things. Imagine if you had a black shadow on a canvas, you could ask a thousand people and I can pretty much garuntee that (if it is not completely obvious) there will be at least 20 different answers. Mainly, people like me (yes, I am guilty) treat gamers of different religion, race or gender differently, but not all of us are treating them differently out of prejudice. I myself treat people with of different gender or race, or religion differently out of the worry of somehow upsetting them, which I tend to do a lot. I don't do it out of hate, rather the opposite. I don't expect someone to run along and pass me their address, I just expect to be treated nicely in return.

And now I put money on it that out of all the people looking at this post of mine, there will be a lot of different opinions about it. THAT, is why I love the internet. Because looking at things differently is the start of progress.
