Throughout the three games I always had two people that just seemed the most awesome duo to bring with me on missions. For ME1 it was Garrus and Wrex. ME2 Garrus and Grunt. ME3 Garrus and Liara. See a pattern?

So what two squadmates do yall gravitate towards?

I always strive to pick different squad members with each of my Shepards, but my personal dream team has always been Liara and Garrus, my two most favorite characters, and I think that they get along really well; they work together. In Mass Effect 2, in which it's not possible to play with this duo (except for Lair of the Shadow Broker), I usually bring Garrus and Tali along, another good combination.

For all three games my favorite team has been Garrus and Tali, due to them both being my favorite characters. The fact that they are the only two characters that can possibly be squad mates in all three games also helps.

ME1: Garrus - Liara/Wrex
ME2: Garrus - Morin/Legion/Tali/Grunt
ME3: Garrus - Liara/rarely Javik

ME 2: Thane/Jack
ME 3: Vega/Kaidan/Garrus

ME 1: Wrex/Liara because Biotics trivialize any "difficulty" in that game.
ME 2: Garrus/Mordin (Mordin/Zaeed on husk heavy missions) Tech is better at stripping defenses than Biotics and incinerate/incin. grenades nuke husks.
ME 3: Garrus/Tali, or Garrus/Liara against husks/swarmers. Again I need to strip shields, anything without shields dies quickly and shotguns/sniper rifles strip armor fine. Liara's singularity is great against swarmers and husks though, which is why she gets dragged along on those missions.

Having shields/armor stop biotics really changed which squadmates I take with me.

ME2: Garrus and Tali - My most favorite characters
ME3: Garrus and Tali - Been with me the longest needed to finish it with them

ME3- Garrus and Vega until I get Kaidan back. Then it's Garrus and Kaidan

ME2: Grunt + Garrus/Tali/Legion/Thane  (in order)
ME3: Garrus + Liara (Singularity maxed is just golden)

A Krogan Squadmate in ME3 was missing for me, even if Liara is very powerful.

I like to mix it up according to mission (not according to the fight in the mission- but according to whom would be most likely to chime in during a particular mission).

For example, when going to thessia, I picked liara and Javik to come with me, and it worked out well because as we explored the secret prothean artifacts in the temple, there was a lot of back and forth between the two.

ME3-James and Javik or Tali and EDI

My "dream"team would be Nihlus and Jenkins...if only...
But, in ME1 and 3 - Garrus and Kaiden
ME2 - Mordin and Kasumi

I like to mix it up a little, but my favourite setups are:

ME1 - Kaidan and Ash *sigh* Then VS and whoever feels appropriate
ME2 - Thane and Samara. Since you get them late in the game, I use Miranda and Mordin as well.
ME3 - Kaidan and Liara (Substituting Kaidan with EDI until I can recruit him).

I should probably try playing ME1 with Kaidan and Liara to see if the combination works as well as it does in ME3.

ME3 - Garrus and Liara (Can't stand any of the others cept Tali and she's only there for like 4 missions and she's forced on you during that time...)
