I'm on the fence about this idea. I fully support the idea of playing the single player more to show it's important, but agreeing to not play the game on Sunday seems pointless. EA/Bioware are extremely aware of the community being angry about the ending. Not playing the game if anything just deprives people who want to play the game from the joy of doing so. So I guess I'm half committed, I'll be glad to play the single player game on Saturday. However, if I get the urge to play on Sunday I'll probably do that as well. I don't see how this protest will do much good either way.
The point is mostly to show the difference between the two days. The wider the gap, the more compelling the argument.
Day 1: See, Bioware? Not only will SP players return, but we'll bring friends! You'll be profitable and loved again!
Day 2: See, Bioware? Crickets will chirp where once happy fans played. We are all paying the Witcher and Skyrim! (Ok, I'm being silly.)
It's about giving them a choice between two futures and painting them as starkly as possible. It also shows them we have the will to resist them and back up our promise of "walking away" with actual action. If we can't sacrifice one day of gameplay or forum surfing in the cause of a satisfying ending, EA will assume we won't have the will to resist paid DLC, either -- and they'll be right.

I've got too many other good games to play to continue wasting my time on the wet fart Mass Effect 3 turned out to be.

my initial idea was to boycott the multiplayer...for at least a week. but yea, that sounds like too much. one day on, one day off sounds good. the only thing is, this weekend they'll have an n7 operation for the multiplayer, because they said on masseffect.com that they'll have operations everyother week. so they didnt have any this weekend which means they'll most likely have next weekend. idk, on one hand it'll be a good stage to show EA how much people will play mass effect SP/MP. but on the other hand, it may be hard for some players to not play on sunday, knowing that the operation is on. it all depends on how enticing the operation is and how much we really hate the endings i guess. i, of course, will be playing uncharted this weekend coming and will just turn on the SP on saturday and walk away....
Yes, bad weekend for a walkout, I guess. The wndow of opportunity to make a difference before everything is settled sort of dictated things. Well, nothing like a challenge, eh?

People who have a weekend off tend to play on multiple days. By playing on Sunday, there is no way to infer a difference between the people who want a better ending and still want to play the game and some schmucks who just only have time on the weekend. Polls can be doctored, people can sign petitions with fake names. But this "protest" uses EA's own tracking system to show how substantial the dissatisfaction is.
If you don't want to participate, that's fine. But please don't take part in this discussion or any others regarding attempts to get BioWare/EA to address the ending.
OP, this sounds like a good idea. I'll throw my hat in. Maybe some numbers EA knows they can trust will make the point sink in. And I guess it would be a good reason to start another playthrough. At least everything not occurring on Earth makes for a fairly decent game.
Thanks for your support! Lee80alabama has a right to express his opinion also, even if/especially if he needs convincing. If I can't make a good argument, then I shouldn't be diong this.

I'LL DO IT. Not very hard to stay off of ME3 as it is right now anyway, seeing as though I haven't touched it in at least a few weeks.
I haven't played the singleplayer since I finished it March 11th or so. It will be interesting to read the after action reports. "Did playing feel as bad as we feared it would?"

I think EA/BW is already fully aware of the impact this ending has had on their servers. If it weren't they wouldn't be trying to gin up interest in the MP by an unending barrage of MP weekends and they wouldn't be canceling other DLC plans to work on the free Extended Cut.
That move is entirely political, just so they can say that they attempted to satisfy the "entitled unreasonable demands" of the fanbase. They are currently marketing the game as "having the most controversial ending of all time", lol.
Finally, EA will bend arms around the industry to get ME3 as GOTY, to further invalidate the charges that the game is just a poorly executed mess.
The reality, at this point, is that Bioware doesn't care and turning off/on your console isn't going to change that. Probably they will survive this black eye, but the real tragedy is that ME will be remembered merely as a decent series of games and not a sci-fi masterpiece on par with any like it could have been.
It was on the verge of becoming "that game" or "that series" - but yeah, the legend is fading, this is why Bioware need to patch the crap out of the game with more content and better, new endings.
I'm just not sure they have the long term vision to understand that ME was really the goose that lays golden eggs. At this point it should be obvious that they don't care, or they think that they will still be able to market ME merchandise and games despite this. I don't see how, but I never imagined that the series could continue without Shepard, anyway.
This is the part that made me really sad. Mass Effect had the potential to be the best scifi trilogy of this decade and it all got blown away by ten ill-conceived minutes. I want the game to live up to its potential, dammit! I want to throw money at Bioware so they can roll in in it while laughing gleefully! Bust most of all, I just want to enjoy playing this trilogy again. It's sad how much I miss my Shepard, but I just can't face playing her.
I think EA/Bioware is coming to realize just how serious this is, even if they can't openly acknowledge it. I believe deep down they DO care. It would be suicidal not to. Why can't they choose to succeed instead of hiding their heads in the sand? MANY OF US WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY, BIOWARE! HELLO!?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't you simply deactivate the 'Upload Gameplay Feedback' option on Sunday and play anyway? I'm not saying that would be what I'll do, it's just something I keep wondering about.
You'd still be logged onto origin, they would know you were playing ME3. Gameplay feedback is just the details, I think.
Thanks for bringing this up, I'll update the OP.

For goodness' sake, though, make sure you have 'feedback' or whatever it is switched ON! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!
But yeah - make sure it's on, 'kay? That way, whatever it is that collects the data will be sure to actually record a spike in the number of 'blackouts'.
[edit] - turns out I wasn't the first person to remember this. Oh, well - carry on...

just an Idea that ran in my head we wont get booted for this like the retakers did right?
I wasn't here when that all went down, so I can't say. I suppose there is always a risk, but booting the lot of us would be another really bad PR move, especially if we remain polite and emphasize we're NOT attacking Bioware.
Oo, now I feel dangerous and subversive.

I like this idea, heck I like it so much I will do it every weekend afterwards too. Too bad I didn't hear of this sooner, I would have stuck this into my column of the local hobby shop newletter I write for. Alas it is too late now, since this issue is already at the print.
As for the turning off feedback and still logging in, you won't give them exact data of what you were doing while playing but your account will still show you logged into Origin and logged into ME3 (XBox owners as well if you connect to the EA servers).
That feature is so they don't get telemetric data on your gameplay. With it off they just know if you logged in or logged out, if you MPed or not since you connect to their servers and access data stored on them. That feature basically allows them to know when you crashed, how many times you died to a certain enemy, what gun you used most, and what you played exactly and stuff like that.
I imagine if you want to leave a clear message to BW/EA it is better to not log into the game or even Origin, heck I would probably stay clear of logging in to any game that uses the same account info (which would include games from other studios like Kingdoms of Alamur). At the very least not logging into any Bioware game or website that connects you to their servers (so BSN and TOR).
It's just one day.
I personally don't mind turning off to all EA log ins for the turn off day, I can play Shogun 2, one of Petroglyph's RTS, Starcraft 2, beta test Guild Wars 2 if there is a test event, beta test the Stardock games that I am part of the beta, finish Arkam City, play MGS HD Collection, or play one of my classics like DoW.
Good information, thank you!

...no. Retake already lost. So whats the point?
We've lost when we give up. The announcement of the DLC was rather vague. Heck, Bioware could even stretch "no new endings" to mean "Oh, these extra endings? We always intended to put them in, so they're not actually 'new.'" Could you imagine the explosion of joy on these forums?
Of course, I'm not counting on that happening. If they can somehow make those three endings palatable, it will be a major achievement and I will give them all due props. And money. But it had better be really convincing.

Why does this thread relate COMPLETELY to the ME story?
OP = Shepard.
BW = Reapers.
This is going to go one way, either multicoloured banning of this thread, or complete failure.
Plus the facebook event... lolwut only 200 members?
Note that there are hundreds of thousands of players. Most of whom don't care about the ending.
This thread is completely childish; i can't believe everyone is getting so upset about the ending...
You know, if you had told me last year or even two months ago that I would be campaigning about the ending to a video game, I would not have believed you. This game really was that good, until the end. Maybe I'm childish. Maybe I have no hope of succeeding. But I'm still going to try. And if I fail, well, at least I met a great group of like-minded people.
Believing is hard, I'll admit it, but I'm happier now trying than I was being cynical two weeks ago. Thank you everyone! Keep trying!

Interesting idea.. I will try that. Because i played the game once. On the second time i played but i couldnt enjoy it. not even near it. On my third gameplay i just lost may will to replay it. cant get off mars. I simpley dont wanna play anymore.
But i will take your sugestion of playing my favorite parts of the game on this date.
I played the MP more just because i was frustraded with the ending. But it wearrs off quickly. Im not playing MP anymore. I would rather have an incredible SP them having a MP at all.
Thank you! I salute you for playing twice -- I haven't played since I finished the game over a month ago! I'm not sure what I'll play. Maybe bottle shooting and snogging Garrus?
