LONG POST. My sincerest apologies for it. But I'm not a thread creator, and I think my issues with MP are on-topic with this thread. So if you're a troll, and/or don't like long posts, SKIP THIS. But we can't stop trolls from snarking. Trolls can't resist. Hence, the troll-age.
I don't wanna' be THAT guy. But on bronze, I've played with MOSTLY those guys. I've read that on silver and gold that this may no't be such an issue, but I'm not very good at this MP thing. It's likely a Bronze life for me. It's hard enough.
What bothers me:
On bronze level, the meta-multiplayer gamers who obviously are working up their umpteenth character to level 20, and are clearly annoyed that I'm not Space Rambo. They push me out of the way, move into my cover, warp right next to me, and race off without the team as...that's right. Space Rambo. I'm level 16, now, and I can count on one hand the number of missions I've played in which the team actually worked together. I should have written down all their gamertags and send them a "thank you" for playing the game the way it should be played.
And yes, to all the nasty little trolls who have entered, farted, and left in this forum, and have derided those in this thread who are upset with the lack of cooperation, teamwork, and fairness, there IS a right way to play:
1. Cooperation, teamwork, fairness, support, understanding your role in the team: GOOD.
2. Lone wolfing, kill stealing, solitary melee clustering, leaving teammates to bleed out: BAD.
If you don't get this simple dichotomy, well, let's just say I don't want you living in my community IRL.
I wish I could say to those bad players on Bronze that I'm mostly forced to play with (but don't because I refuse to use a mike--it's a horribly abused bit of tech), "Look. I'm an old gamer. I don't have a 20-year old's hand-eye coordination or reflexes any more. I'm slow. I also am not in this for the personal glory. I'm playing to get my Galactic Readiness at 100% for the SP game. I'm NOT happy that I need to play the multiplayer game*. I'm doing my best. I really am. And I"m trying to be aware of a solid role I can play on a team, and what I'm not capable of doing. So as a common, grunt human soldier, I promise to do the following:
1. I will never steal your kills. I will not EVER use my sniper rifle to steal your melee kill or your biotic attack that you've worked hard to get.
2. I will not get into your way. I may follow you at a distance because on some maps I'm easily confused (I'm old), but I will NEVER glom onto your cover spot (that's rude) and I will not step into your line of fire. I follow because you know where the enemy's coming, and I don't. And no, I don't always remember. Besides, you DON'T want me
leading the charge.
3. I will not get a lot of kills. In fact, I'll always have the fewest, and the fewest point totals. That's not because I'm not helping the team. I will hang back, pick my targets, and always go for assists. If someone is meleeing, I will often pepper their opponent, then allow the fellow player to make the melee kill. As a grunt, my job is support,
not commando. Most of the badges I get at mission's end are for assists and support. They may not be as flashy as your multiple badges, but I feel good. I helped.
4. I will never, ever, rush out blindly into melee or the thick of the fight. That will get me in others' way, get me killed, and put everyone at a disadvantage because I just stupidly got myself killed.
5. I will have your back. I know that you're younger, faster, and much more experienced at this sort of game than me. Because you're a better player, I will keep to the flank, and work on maintaining a buffer between you and whatever might be circling around to shoot us in the back.
6. I don't play any other character. I'm bad enough as it is; I will be worse with yet another Level One character with too many skills and abilities to remember. So I play a human soldier in support. That's all.
I just don't want to be THAT guy. But on Bronze, I have to play with 'em all the time.
Thanks for reading. I appreciate it.
*Yes, I'm aware that I don't technically HAVE to play multiplayer. But Galactic Readiness IS tied to EMS. After one SP playthrough, I've resigned myself to playing multiplayer, to get my EMS at the max. I'll give myself every option I can for a good ending, if we get one in the DLC. And I'm just trying to have fun, too, within the spirit of the rules. EMS goes down if you don't keep playing (I know there's a 75% GR floor), and I want to get a Level 20 soldier so I can better help the team, and not be a burden to the other players.
Well said.
However, you should be able to enjoy multiplayer if you play with people that is aware of your playstyle and is willing to lend a hand.
If you are in Origin don't hesitate to add me (Tortugueta). I usually play on silver nowadays but I don't mind playing on bronze if you invite me to a match.
By the way, I'm on my thirties so I'm no kiddo either.

And the big one: anyome who throws a hissy over how awesomethey are, demeans others...and SUCKS. Lookin' at you, SI who insulted the lobby, tried to kick me gengrineer freind, then got a score or 25kin a gold...

Your level 20 Manguard may not care about the XP but my lvl 12 Drell Adept does.

5. Spamguards. I love Vanguard (it's my favorite class!)...but to me, Vanguard is a class that I mix up gunplay/powerplay. The only time I'll use powers is with the Drell Vanguard, and that's for the charge ability (due to the Drell's naturally low shields, it's an easy recharge). Otherwise, I'm not a fan of people spamming the charge/nova. Granted, it's a very useful tactic...in Bronze. Players in Silver/Gold that use it and constantly have to be revived is not fun to take part of.
4. Ignoring devices. During those 'activate the device' or 'stay in the field' missions, some players will take it upon themselves to become the 'superhero' of the team and start ignoring the objective and instead take out tons and tons of enemies. This one, I really don't understand. It really won't boost your XP THAT much. Besides, I think most of us are just trying to get credits!
3. Kill stealing. This has already been stated somewhere in this topic, so I'll leave it like that.
2. Players who aren't playing. Why would a player ready-up, then drop the controller? It's so odd, and can be such a negative. When in the middle of a game...if a player goes down, I really don't care/pay attention to what their name is...I just usually go for them if I can. In this situation though, most of the time it ends up being the immobile player. This one is just head-scratching if anything.
But the number one gripe I have is...
1. Not returning the favor of revive!
This has to be my number one gripe with people. I've been there...I'm sure everyone's been there. You'll go out of your way to revive someone. Now, the common courtesy is there will be the occasional time where you will go down after you revive your teammate. The generous thing is to have the teammate who was just revived to use the 'invincibility frames' and revive in return. I do it, I'm sure tons of you will do it...but then there are a few players who WON'T do it. They'll just run off and continue to do their thing. I mean, it is what it is in the end...but geez. Haha.
Anyhow, that's my list!

Hacked synthetic is way too fluid situation to just say that killing them is bad.
There is an upgrade (lvl 6 me thinks) that makes hacked explode nicely, there might be that hacked prime is the most dangerous opponent on the field, or you may be level 10 quarian and your hack last for litterally for a second etc. etc.
That's true, but in my case I inform them that I've put points toward making Hacked Synthetics better at helping us directly. The Hacked Geth move faster, do more damage, etc., and yet 'That Guy' still target them, probably to try and diminish my assist and kill points.
Might not be a bad idea to keep in mind that a Quarians hack priority list and everyone elses kill priority overlap somewhat.
So if you keep hacking the most dangerous thing on the field and the other person doesn't know how long it's going to stay that way how do you expect them to respond?

I dislike people who quit halfway through a match and people that aim the cobra at the target rather than at the ground near the target (the amount of times people miss a banshee because of this is ridiculous)
I've been guilty of that... on an Atlas.
I will try aiming at the ground next time, because I have the uncanny ability to put a Cobra missile through that narrow gap between the Atlas torso and arm.

Wave 10, Kill 4 targets, I have 4 missile launchers left. I leave cover and rush to the first target, our salarian engineer for no reason decides to follow. I'm priming my missile, he comes stand in front of me and forces me to move. I miss the target. I prime my rocket, shoot again and it's dead.
Target 2, again I rush to it, prime my rocket, fire, target dead.
Target 3, it's on FBW and it spawned on the landing pad and was heading down, I was top in the hallway, I fire my rocket through the bars, in between a pyro and a rocket trooper and HIT the prime, target down!
And now... target 4. Because of our Salarian I ran out of missiles, so I couldn't nuke that 4th target. He goes down, I try to run around and take cover to cryo blast it (I'm a QE) in the hopes my team cna kill him. Our infiltrator disconencts (friend of mine, I know he wouldn't leave) so now it's 1 dead salarian engineer, 1 rather useless quarian against a geth prime, and a geth engineer who apparently doesn't have any frigging missiles.
I never saw him use one in 3 games, now he had to use one, he doesn't use one. He keeps shooting it with his peashooter but can deal no proper amount of damage, no overloads, nothing. He goes down from a pyro, bleeds to death cause I can't get to him. Now I'm up alone against a geth prime and several pyros. I do my best to kill it, but unfortunately my carnifex, cryo blast and incinerate haven't got much effect on geth prime shields....

You're not the only one. I usually try to do that too, unless I'm pinned by enemies, or you died in front of a turret, or a Phantom.

I don't do repeat Hacks, as they get shorter every time. I also hardly Hack an Atlas or Geth Prime, because for me they don't seem to do a lot, especially the Atlas. Turrets, Geth Pyros, and sometimes Geth Rocket Troopers are the way to go.
It's like they're going "Oh my God it's helping us a whole lot! *gasp* And it's GLOWING!! Let's all blow it the **** up instead of focusing on the Prime!"

Hack priority targets should be the ones closest to the team, basically acts as decoy and more importanly does not shoot you in the face

Same here. Unless a horde of Banshees and Brutes are playing poker around your bleeding body, I'll revive you no matter where you died (and even in that case I might try if the situation is dire enough for the team). Of course I might not run across a map if I see some other teammate near you.
