In the heroic achievements screen it says % completed.  Is this % completed of the story or the entire game (side quests and everything).  I'm 30% done (after playing some where between 30-40 hours) and I just want to know if I'll get an unpleasant surprise and finish the story when I'm only 60% done the game.

Doesn't mean much. It keeps track of how many of the achievements you unlock.



Most people end the game at about "50%" on that metric.

It refers to the entire game. So you can complete the main quest and find that overall you're only at 60% completed.

Does anyone know where I can check how much left of the story I have without the rest getting spoiled?



I'm at the landsmeet quest (havent started it yet) in the blight tab. If I were only to play the story quests could anyone give me an estimate of how many hours I have left or percentage?

Not to spoil anything... but if youre at Landsmeet, I'd take a break from main quests and go do some side quests. Because you have completed just a tad more than 30% of the game.
