What are the numbers on these skills?  Are they worth getting?  More specifically, are they worth getting for a heavy crowd control mage build that will be light on damage?

Staff Focus is around a 30-33% increase in staff damage IINM. It ends up being something to the order of 7 extra damage per shot near the end-game. Also, Arcane Mastery is 5 spell power. Not bad, but arguably weak for a Tier IV skill. The (Pellegrin Balance Mod) increases this to 11 spell power, making it more worthwhile.

These spells are great endgame, where you can feel the +33% damage with a good staff, and you have enough spells to cast in order to make the +5 spellpower worthwhile.

All assuming your party runs at least 2 mages. If it only runs 1, then you have better things to spend your talent points about.

Big waste of a tier 3 and tier 4. Let me ask you the same question in reverse ... what two spells are you giving up to get these two?

I got that whole row on my lvl 24 mage and don't really think they are very worth it or anything nessicarily

Staff focus adds a nice little bit to staff dmg , but its not so massive that it becomes mandatory to get it

Arcane mastery I noticed literally nothing

Well, with that two telent and two other sustains one can pump the staff damage to 45~50.

Not to shabby since it is free, ranged, never missing, and no micro management needed. .

What are "the two other sustains" that get the damage to 45-50?

The two add spellpower of course.
Spell might, and the first in "grease" line.
