BioWare clearly stated that modding is allowed within various limits they define. However, since every single setting is in just one configuration file, it is next to impossible to evaluate your mods based on that information (practically, they just check the hash, but that's useless if they allow modding).

Well that's the problem, the "limits they define" are very poorly defined, at best. And they could easily add the necessary lines for the separate binds to the config file, but they choose not to. Basically forcing people to do this on their own in order to enjoy gameplay and then instead of bad keybinds having to fear retribution for it is just stupid.

Yeah, it's just lazy from them,  on top of that, they keep contradicting eachother, but that wasn't my point.

They can detect modding by

1) checking the hash code of the c.bin
2) checking server logs

Since modding - no matter how they limit it - is allowed, checking the hash yields no results, and a key-bind modification doesn't have any effect that shows in the logs either.

I seriously doubt that they need to watch a match. I don't know how BW has coded the MP part, but there is several ways to detect third party application activities during a MP session.

There's no third party app during run-time, and he was being sarcastic.

Then the only way I know of is using Coalesced.bin and theoretically Origin should be able to detect it.

I know. But the problem is that as you said they keep contradicting each other... so who knows if someone decides to suddenly ban everyone based on the hash code.

But seriously it's a stupid design - I mean apart from not being able to bind this stuff from within the game, the fact that you actually can change game-critical stuff for multiplayer - like credit gains, weapon stats etc - from a "client" file.

Why don't you just post the solution and let us decide if we are to use it or not. We are aware of the risk.

As mentioned, remapping keys is fair game.

To clarify - Make sure you know what you're doing when editing these files. If you do give yourself some sort of unfair advantage (accident or not) BioWare reserves the right to ban you.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments please PM me.

It's cheating..because..you know..that's the point of BW putting 3 uses to a key, to frustrate us. When we want to revive, we hug cover instead. When we want to sprint to safety, we try to revive instead. When we want to hug cover, we activate the device instead.

Seriously though, who thought that it was a good idea in the first place?

I have a better question, why didn't anyone oppose to the idea? :P

You really think no one ever had issues with the key binding and didn't object to it?

That is the greatest most possible answer I could have received!
Thank you for taking the time to reply  :3

So, with that in mind, I have created the guide on how to reassign Use to your "T" key. Enjoy.

Do I have to remove "Exclusive Used" from "Shared_Action" to make it work correctly ?

Nope!

If you leave it there, Space will still be able to function as a 'Used' command as well (via Shared Action), but "T" will also function as a "Used" command (via PC Use), without the ordeal that comes with the "Shared_Action".
Exclusive means (I think) that if you're not pressing any other keys with it. It doesn't mean that's the only one that can invoke the command.

Awesome - and thanks to all the modders who worked on the various remap stuff.

Console users are still screwed and stuck with a "Press A To Win" control scheme...

We need an official in game way to remap our buttons/keys. This doesn't actually address the problems with the controls, it is only a hack fix for a small percentage of the overall population.

I know this is going to garner some laughs and scoffs from PC players, but is there anyway to remap that particular function on the 360? I would love to remap it to my reload or melee, that way the A button is only for cover.

Also, if it involves hex code and rehashing files and blah blah blah, then I don't think it will be worth it, since Microsoft frowns upon that sort of thing.

I wish I could help you. But I only know how to do this on PC, and that is also merely because someone took the time to write a C# application to decrypt the contents of the "Coalesced.bin".

Because last time I tried that, my thread got deleted, but since we've finally got a response now, I think the OP's gonna update pretty soon, if not already.

Hmm, so how about changing sprint just to shift? I hate going into cover when you just wanna run past something!

Thanks for this. I've been waiting until I heard some word from Bioware that it's okay. Really looking forward to not squatting over my teammates face while they're bleeding out, when I try to rescue them.  :?

That's possible too, but where are you going to move the Menu bar from Shift?

But the commands would be,
( Name="Shared_Action", Command="Exclusive TryStandingJump | Exclusive Used | Exclusive PressAction | OnTap 0.2 TapAction | OnHold 0.3 HoldAction")

( Name="PC_Storm", Command="StormOn | OnRelease StormOff" )       (maybe OnHold 0.1 StormOn, I'm not sure)

( Name="LeftControl", Command="Walking" )
( Name="LeftShift", Command="PC_EnterCommandMenu" )
( Name="LeftControl", Command="PC_EnterCommandMenu"" )
( Name="LeftShift", Command="PC_Storm" )
