Hello All,

Been reading up on using the toolset to create custom armors and outfits for your character and NPCs and have made a few at this point. Last night the thought came to me and after a little research I didn't seem to find anything on it and figured it would be worth asking the community... Is it possible using the 2da files to edit the outfits/armors that each class is wearing in the class selection screeen? I read about creating custom classes... but was unsure if you can edit an existing class (or more specifically the attire of one). Any info or opinions would be great.

Thanks for reading!

I am mostly sure that editing the class.2da will allow you to choose which armor any given class is shown to be wearing. As for items and weapons (and the actual armor item), you will have to script it - unless it is for companions; they can be designed in the toolset with anything you want them to have.

The matter that makes me say I am only mostly sure is how the class will appear in the character creation gui - that cannot be changed until you actually choose a class in the class selection gui.

Yes it is possible. I did this for some custom Dragonlance classes I created. Its been awhile, but if I remember correctly, its the ResRef you set in the classes.2DA under the 5 CharGen_?? slots at the end of you entry. If you want to create your own armor set for in there, you must create it in the toolset and then export it to your override. If that doesn't do the trick, let me know and I will look back through my stuff and make sure. Either way, please let me know, I am compiling some tutorials, that would be a good one to add.

You can also, if you're willing to climb a learning curve that wasn't all THAT bad, use GIMP to retexture a given base armor, and then set up the hak files to bring it in as its own set. We're doing that on my PW to create a number of more mundane armor types (or if this is JUST a case of wanting something to look different, throw that particular suit in your override, and while you're playing all the guys wearing Suit X will look "like that" from the get-go. I've done a little .2da work on that end, but another guy has the full responsibility on that one, so these module-makers would be better able to help you there on details than I can.

I'm VERY junior compared to all these guys, and didn't even really start to get into this stuff until a couple years ago, and then as a sideline to toolsetting/building, but it's an option depending on what your end purpose is.
