When a woman does it, she's a ****.

When a man does it, he's hardcore.  Amirite?

Ouch, I guess you and I will never be friends.... so sad. :crying:

Yeah, I don't view sarcasm as a weakness at all, but a mode of effective conversation whether it be used in time of humor, indifference, acceptance, anger, etc. I use it quite often, as do most of my friends and family.

Sarcasm in jest is one thing. Sarcasm as an attempt to win an argument or insult someone is childish (which can be funny, but no less childish).

If everyone was as "practical" as Morrigan, then nobody would feel the need to go beyond what they have. The world would stagnate. If you're so into science, then you know that struggle and evolving is the natural way of things. Morrigan doesn't evolve. She exists in her image and nothing outside of that matters. She accepts nothing that doesn't fit in her ideals. Talk about being closed-minded.
Again, nothing makes up for that.

You can make her fall in love with your character. And this is after she explained that she finds love to be a weakness and doesn't want it for herself. So I don't agree, her character develops through the game.

Quite intriguing topic.
I would say you don't see such girls in real life, since the girls in real life grow up in society and develop certain social skills. Thus you can meet many girls that actually have similar views but act quite differently. She's quite straightforward and does not attempt to hide her opinion or her attitude. That makes her quite unusual character indeed, one that I would like to talk with but be very careful about trusting her.

My question to you: Does she accept it or reject it?

She rejects it because it doesn't fit with her ideals. No. She doesn't evolve. She skipped that opportunity.

She is honest, always says what she means about people.

She has strong integrity.

She uses sarcasm, considered intelligent and witty humor by most.

She know what she wants and how to enjoy life.

She spits in the face of religion and people living in its lies,  she hates the weakminded feeble sheep that follows such stupidity. Meaning she is strongwilled and sees the world for what it is.

She is surprisingly sane and lively for growing up in the middle of a swamp with a maleficar shapeshifter as a mother. Consider you going through the same.

She has one of the greatest traits of wisdom a person can possess, critical thinking.

Allthough she seeks immortality (wont spoil how here) who wouldnt? Its self preservation and anyone would do the same. Unless they are some self rightious idiot (Yes you would have to be an idiot to turn down immortality, and royally so)

I cant understand how people can NOT like morrigan. She is a great person and though she has her faults she possess strength and spirit like few real world girls has these days. The "Badgirl" image isnt that major imo.

Seeing the either "Hate or like" view on her id say the devs did a tremendous job making her. But i cant help to see her good traits overshadowing her bad traits by a huuuuuge margin. I think girls that dont like her personality is jealous of her intelligence, sharpness of mind and strength to stand up for herself.

Up to now I have steered clear of topics on Morrigan, but considering I'm still awake at this hour and bored out of my mind, I will give it a go...

1 - I actually share this in common with Morrigan. I'm blunt in sharing my opinions with others. The difference is my friends and acquaintances respect that quality in me; because I possess something Morrigan decidedly lacks - tact. I imagine one of the reasons Morrigan earns so much ire is her lack of anything beyond rudimentary social skills. Early on in Lothering she states she can be friendly when she desires to; but if this is at all true I have never seen it.

2 - Yes, I suppose by definition she does have strong integrity. Although considering this integrity was thoroughly crammed into her by someone else, makes it less impressive. I found it ironic Morrigan espouses the concepts she does while being so dependant on her mother, and only wishing to break away from that dependancy when her life is directly threatened. Morrigan's integrity is just parroting what Flemeth taught her.

3 - "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit." Alistair's brand of sarcasm is cleverer. Even Shale and Oghren, with their painfully crass commentary stand out more; simply because sarcasm is so common and something practically everyone with a spark of intelligence can do. Morrigan's sarcasm is not even good sarcasm. It is much too aggressive and comes across as more sardonic.

4 - She does know what she wants. No one could argue Morrigan is not a determined, goal oriented woman. She also knows how to enjoy herself. However, aside from a few brief anecdotes about her experiences in animal form and that story about the mirror, we get frequent examples that her idea of fun is putting others down, using them in one way or another, and inflating her ego. So while I can agree with you on this point, I would be remiss not to reference the reason this thread was written. From that perspective I hope you are right in that we see few women like Morrigan in real life. Strength does not have to go hand in hand with relentless selfishness.

5 - Conjecture. No one knows one way or another if religion and other spiritual beliefs are in fact false. Athiests cannot prove nonexistence of divine entities any more than believers can existence of their deities. The absence of proof does not necessarily mean that whatever you are seeking must be untrue.

One has the right not to believe in religion or to have faith. But to deny even the slighest possibility that you can be wrong when there are no hard facts to support either view is close-minded folly. Morrigan does not see the world for what it is. She is utterly incapable of seeing past her own beliefs to even begin to understand the truth of anything, let alone human(noid) nature. Morrigan even admits to being generally clueless about the behavior of people she spied on or met during her brief visits to areas outside the Korcari Wilds; yet is confident enough to act as if she knows the truth of everything? Riiiight.

6 - She is surprisingly *stable*, yes. Sane is debateable.

7 - Yes, I will give you this one. She is a critical thinker. I think this is sort of a given for any successful mage.

I know plenty of people that would not seek immortality and some of them are knocking on death's door. Live long enough, and the idea of living forever may not seem as appealing to you for various reasons; not all of them spiritual. Anyone could easily say you are an idiot for wanting immortality just as easily as you called them idiots for not. This is wholly subjective opinion on your part, as it is utterly unsubstantiated.

My final thoughts on Morrigan are that I would not like to know someone like her in real life. Not as a friend, acquaintance, or even a coworker. But I do not hate her, nor do I like her. For me Morrigan was a failure of a character, as the only reaction I had was cold indifference. That is why I never bothered to reply to a Morrigan related topic before. I guess your spin on it was enough to interest me. Morrigan is just such a hackneyed and predictable "eeevil" character, that I was completely unimpressed with her. I dare say, bored. Her defining characteristics have been done to death before, and more intriguingly so. I would hope that there are few such women with those same traits in this world.

Nihilism isnt in my eyes about removing positive values, but to remove negative, unnecessary and trivial values not based on truth. And break down reality to what is 100% proven. Nihilism is objective truth and is only negative when used for subjective purposes based on peoples egos. It isnt destructive or bad in itself.

Edit: What IS bad is wasting life on anything not proven by science. Ergo basing your life on lies. This isnt noble, good or positive in anyway and if people all follow this path, then welcome to the dark ages v.2

You're alludingto religion here, no?

So..can't you prove to me your mother loves you? If you can't, then you shouldn't base your life on the fact that she loves you...See?...such claims are redicolous.
Proof is all fine and dandy, but not all proof can be reproduced or will even be accepted by anyone.

That said, Morrigan advocates killing children. There's NO WAY IN HELL I would consider someone like that a good person. In fact, in my current playtrough I killed Flemeth and I'm not regretting it. Next playtrough I'm gonna lie to Morrigan and give her the robes...No wait..I'm gonna turn her over to the Templars...and THEN I'm gonan kill Flemeth..maybe...

I can honestly say I have never met anyone like Morrigan, male or female, in real life.

I am a Police Officer and I deal with some really unpleasant people on a daily basis; still, none of them are quite as ill adjusted as Morrigan is. Morrigan is an exaggerated stereotype for gameplay and story telling purposes. The sheer amounts of tsundere Mary Sue are unlike anything I have actually witnessed.

Ill add toseaglooms post:

1. Shes not actually honest, unless the truth is hurtful to someone. The truth is told to hurt others, and not because it is the truth, and she is quite capable of lying of course. She's least of all honest to herself.

4. She does most definitely NOT know what she wants.

She says she knows that beauty hold no meaning, yet she's still a sucker for a mirror or any object pretty on her.

She says that she is pragmatic, and preaches pragmatism, when in truth she hates weakness and adores power in every form. ( Too few people see this, it is the reason she dislikes several pragmatic things)

She says she holds no attachment to people, yet she will still grow close to you (and even love you), though she cannot see it herself.

5. Actually we are given good evidence during the course of the game that the faith is actually true. She does not dislike religion because it is untrue, but because she sees it as a kind of weakness, since it is not as pragmatic as she preaches.

6. "Psychopathy (pronounced /saɪˈkɒpəθi/[1][2]) is a personality disorder whose hallmark is a lack of empathy" (wiki on psychopathy).

Of course im not sure that this is all that is wrong with her.

Double post, will fill with a little useful

@ Dunhart. Actually while alot of people grow narcissitic during their teenage years, they actually lose it after a few years, making them more like Alistair again.

Remember that his awkwardness around women is not actually a personality issue, but is the result of living in a cloister.

Morrigan is a girl we see to few of these days in real life...

A mean, socially inept female who works hard on her looks, tries to be a hardcore mature woman but is secretly an emotionally stunted girl-child deep inside, and is quick to get in bed so long as you ply her with expensive gifts and agree with every word that comes out of her mouth, but becomes distraught and confused when real emotions enter the picture? AND SHE HAS AN ADVERSARIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HER PARENTS?

Wow you're right TC, I've never met a girl like that before! There's certainly not eight gajillion of this very type of female at your neighborhood college campus! Nope!

Also, I think all you guys got Morrigan wrong. She's certainly not original and if you know her type you should've seen the "NO I CAN'T HAVE SEX WITH YOU ANYMORE I'M HAVING MY FIRST FEELINGS" moment coming a mile away. It's simple - she's hardcore tsundere. Consult tvtropes for further information.

But seriously fellas, dating a real-life Morrigan is not something you want. Trust me on this one.

I didn't, actually. As unrealistic as their innocence and cuteness was, I rather liked them.

In fact, theres simply not enough redheads. With cute accents, french or otherwise.
