I didn't download it. From what I hear it's completely overpowered for a starter item, looks out of place and certainly is out of place especially in the origins where you're poor.

I don't use any dlc or premium content items, it's bad enough having the PREMIUM CONTENT tab in your journal from the start of a game. I heard about a merchant? Who told me? Must have been sleeping.. :/

Overall I think it's a terrible idea to aquire items in this way rather than having to kill a baddie for it.

That reminds me I wanted to look for a mod, that makes the bonus items boss drops or merchant ware. Anyone knows if such a mod already exists?

DLC Merchandise does that.

I ignore the blood dragon armour for all of my games, does not look that good, I know thats subjective, and the bonous are not that great as well.

Glowing eyes, no.

I've taken it off now (obviously the site hasn't updated it yet), but I think it's hit and miss. It looks extremely lame without the helmet, and for me personally, it doesn't suit/fit well with my characters face. However with the helmet, and in darkly lit areas, it can look pretty sweet, like here:

Either way, I have my Wade's Dragon Bone plate armour now, so no need for it.

How do you justify, from a roleplaying perspective, not using the best equipment?

Here's an example. My current character is a Human noble who grew up idolizing Grey Wardens and jumped at the chance to join Duncan. This character will hang on to the Warden's Oath amulet long after I find better amulets. Why? Because this character is proud to be a Grey Warden and proud to wear that amulet. She would not trade that amulet for anything. It represents the fulfillment of a lifelong anbition.

Also, I've used The Winter Forge mod to craft a sword for the character. This sword was handed down from a grandfather who served in the Grey Wardens and it even (thanks to the mod) bears his name. This sword has decent stats for early levels but will be vastly underpowered by the end of the  game. Nevertheless, I plan to have her use it right to the end, even after she has found more powerful swords. A family heirloom is more important to this particular character than uber gear.

By contrast, my next character will likely be a city or Dalish Elf Rogue who will be conscripted against her will. This character will sell the Warden's Oath the instant she she finds a better amulet. Why? Because in this case I'll be roleplaying a character who does not want to be a Grey Warden. The amulet will mean nothing to this character.

In my conception of roleplaying, gear does not make the character. I roleplay the character, not the gear.

Yeah I'm the same, I mean I don't still wear the Warden's oath, but I'd never sell it, anything related to something significant story wise, I hang on to, even if its been superseded. Why, I'll even wear armour with worse stats based purely on how it looks. That's why I hardly ever wear Bergen's honor, I think it looks crap and generic.

I have it, but only tried it on once on my first playthrough, and sold it off on my second.

I don't wear logos in RL. :)

So what about me? I like to play a game for the story, and hope that the gameplay will be good enough to keep me interested. I don't think I fall into your 4 basic subgroups.

Hence the reason I used the term 'basic subgroups' instead of 'absolute groups'. You would be affectionately known as a 'free radical' in terms of your gaming preferences. :wizard:

Ah, okay. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!!!

I activated it to see how it looked in the game, but ugh, it looks like some sort of sci-fi armor, which is totally out of place in DA:O. Now I only sell the one piece that comes with a new character and ignore the other pieces.

I would really like some mod that removes all of the dlc/bonus items from the player and creates encounters that award them with a difficulty proportional to the item's power.

Just using BG2 as an example, Celestial Fury is a powerful katana that's available from almost the very beginning, but you have to go through a very difficult and completely optional encounter to get it. If BG2 were released with today's standards it would just be dropped in your lap from the get-go.

Playing a game for the story is like eating soup for the spoon.

I didn't forgo.  I actually have Sten wearing the entire set.  He reminds me of a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica now.

Similar situation here.

My character is a human noble.  She was ambivalent towards the Grey Wardens at first, but after the events that unfold in the origin story, she latched onto being a Grey Warden as it was her only real identity left.  Determined to clear the Wardens' name, once she discovered the Warden Commander's Armor, she will not remove it.  Ever.  Along with her amulet.  And I still carry around, though I may not use, the Warden's sword and her Family sword.  These items are too precious for her to let go of.

The textures look REALLY horrible, there must have been some sort of compression mistake they can't correct because their resolution is so much lower than any other item in the game and they haven't even made a hint towards any attempt at fixing it to make it not look like it was imported from Neverwinter Nights 1.

Does anyone have any screenshots of it on a female character? I'd really like to see what it looks like.

I use the Blood Dragon Armor for Sten, and I used it once for my Male Human Noble. I like it's look, but I hardly bother with it anymore to tell the truth.

I don't mind the look since there are mods that make it look better, and/or turn the glows off. Once you do that, Sten or Oghren looks pretty damn good wearing it.

However, by the time I have the requisite STR and sovereigns to wear/buy the set, I've already found equally excellent armor, so I never get to use this set. It's been overnerfed and overshadowed.

I don't like it, really. It's (visually) not that exciting and the DLC/better standard armors are much better.

I think.

I have deactivated that DLC because it is just out of place. Not merely because of the ugly looks, though. I hate how the chest piece is given to you at the start of the game. It doesn't match the background of some origins.

I never wear it - mainly due to two reasons that many others have raised: 1) It makes you look like some futuristic space marine with a sword (heck, with the exception of the helmet the BD armour in ME2 would fit DA better). 2) Its the ugliest armour in the game. I usually sell it for the added money in the early stages. It doesn;t work from an aesthetic or an RP perspective - and since being nerfed it doesn't even work from a powergaming one.

Yup, don't use it for the reasons others have said, to futuristic in appearance to fit the setting, and it looks kinda ugly so I tend to sell it straight off
