Really?  The Asari would have destroyed all the other species if they could have?  What part of "Ardat-Yakshi" and "anti-Pureblood sentiment" is hard for you to understand?  If nothing else, the Asari would have preserved the other species for breeding stock.

The reason asari culture promotes breeding with other species is because this weaken the father's species while empowering the asari. If other species weren't a threat, there would be no reason for the asari to mate with them.

And yes.  The batarians, like the humans, turians, salarians, presumably quarians and every other spacefaring race found Prothean archives on their homeworld.  They did NOT find a functioning Prothean Beacon.  The only races to have done that are humanity (Edem Prime), the Asari, and arguably the geth (Saren).  A working beacon is to a prothean archive what Eintein's Theory of Relativity is to x+y=z: infinitely more complex, with infinitely more uses.

Fine, they're not genocidal. They're greedy and selfish and hypocritical...
Unless cultural genocide counts.

and not to mintion that when the one on eden prime got destroyed who where the first to bit** about it
so yeah i didnt like em much
hipocritic lieing backstabing horders that want all the tech for themselves
they got what they deservied till humans came to kick the reapers ass of the asari home world
oh wait that didnt happen sorry

I hope that you understand that it could have contained information useful to the war effort. If we were in the same position, we would have done the same.

No matter what they did, no race deserve genocicde.

No race

"rival race" you sound like those guys that where white sheets on their heads and burn crosses

All Nations compete for power. It just so happens that the nations of the ME universe are also the species of the ME universe.
It's not racism, it's a fact of life.

Aye.  And it was the asari themselves who set things up that way in the first place.

Your reasons for disliking the Asari are either made up,

You know what's made up?
That mating with other species grants the asari more genetic diversity.

You know what's not made up? That any coupling of human/asari is just strenghtening a rival race.
But you actually think that the two aren't connected. Right.

or they are because of traits that are standard in every race.

I did not see every race hiding prothean technology while the galaxy burned. Did you?

Where. Do. You. Get. Your. Facts?

Also, I saw the Salarian Dalatross perfectly willing to watch Earth burn if we didn't help her maintain the Krogen Genocide. Also Batarians? Remember Jack's loyalty mission? Most of the children found their way their by way of Batarian Slavers. Turians? You played Tuchanka right? That massive bomb in the middle of a densely populated Krogen area?

The Asari government did what any other government in their position would have.

You mean they kept prothean technology hidden while creating laws that punish anyone who does the exact same thing harshly? Prothean technology that could have been used to prepare for the Reapers, only way earlier? Technology they weren't willing to share, even when all other races were in desperate need of help? Yes, all races commited all sorts of bad sh*t, it's just that what the asari did is far worse in comparison.

The council created laws. And yes, I do stand by the underlined. The head of governments almost always act in their people's best interest first. Look at the Turians not offering aid until you help solve their problems. Some of you are being naive.

Real World example? The US has the most Nukes out of any country in the world right now. And yet we have imposed santions on Iran because they are threatening to develop Nuclear Tech

Also my comments? Tailored to the person I was going back and forth with. After all, I don't know your reasons.

Real world example?  As soon as US first developed nuclear technology in the 1940's the Americans shared those secrets with their allies

Actually sharing defense technologies with their allies was a central facet of US foreign policy all during the Cold War and continues to this day.

The fact that they were designed to be the generic "blue space-babes" of the galaxy irritates me immensly. Also, many aspects of them (such as the way they reproduce) generally creep me out.

I don't hate the Asari. I mean, "hate" is a very strong word and i've seen it get thrown around quite casually here on BSN. I'm just not terribly fond of them either.

Also, everytime I hear Liara complain about figthing Banshees, I feel like screaming:
"Asari, what do you think that those Husks we have been killing since day 1 used to be!?"

Oh me too!  It was like the war wasn't real to her until bad things started happening to asari.

Although I like the Asari, and have consistently chosen Liara as my LI throughout the series, I have to admit that I felt the same way.

I think I can tell what the writers tried to accomplish here, but I do not think they succeeded. Instead, they painted Liara in a VERY negative light.

K... for the people talking about how Shepard was forced into being angry over the fall of Thessia just stfu and analyze the situation. He's not pissed over the fact that the blue babes of the galaxy lost their home. He's pissed cause that's exactly what's happening over at Earth, he sees the Fall of Thessia as the fall of Earth. He sees the carnage happening and he can't do anything about it, all he can do is fall back to the Normandy, like on Earth.

Not to mention, he had the key to ending the war just a few minutes away until Liu Kang showed up and screwed everything up. At first, yeah it's surprising that he's so pissed but when you really think about, he has his reasons to be pissed. Aside from Thane/Kirahhe/Councilor dying, that was his only failure. So yeah he should be pissed.

I want to see thessia when its not under siege. I love the asari

This.

As for the Thessian Mission: I kinda have a love/hate relatioship with that. The Kai Leng fight was horrible and we didn't really see a lot of Thessia but the parts with Javik were great and the Asari soldiers and pilots sacrificing themselves for Shepard to retrieve the data...quite the emotional moment (the radio sequence in the end :crying:). Not the fall of Thessia but these smaller things made Shepards reaction acceptable for me as a player. I felt about the same.
Which made me hate the Kai Leng fight even more. My vanguard kicked his stupid *ss the instance he turned up. Still I lost, thanks to the script, and all those Asari died for nothing.

Sadly, the conversation with the councilor was, again, handled badly via auto dialog. Shep would have told a thing or two about holding back this information until the very last moment...

If the asari reproduction creep you out, you should try see how RL micro organisms (like bacterials) share genetic traits:S

There is a conversation in the Human embassy on the citadel between a Human Soldier and an Asari information clerk about the Human's daughter who is an Asari. She goes through the pains to explain that she can under no condition go back to her Human parents due to the apparent social stigma that exists around Humans mating with other species (30 years is a short time to developer tolerance to other lifeforms) and effectively begs the Asari clerk to make sure she goes to her Asari Partners family.

Which is located on Thessia... Oh boyImage IPB

Funnily enough, this conversation resolves in the same fashion AFTER Thessia has fallen, effectively having the mother declare her joy and relief at having her daughter sent straight into reaper territory, and thanking the clerk for it.
