If I'm NOT running the Dex Hotfix, should I be pumping Dex or Cunning for Archers and Dual Wield Daggers? Thanks!

Take longbows and get as much cunning as you can + lethality.

Coolio, will do. =)

Also, my Dual Wield Warrior PC has maxed out the Combat Training and Coercion skills trees. Should he now focus on Survival or Combat Tactics? Thanks! =P

If you use combat tactics a lot, then that might be a good idea. I turned them off, as I like the pause-and-play style, so for me Survival was a good 3rd option (it adds like 5% nature res per lvl and a bit of phys res @ lvl 4... also being able to see enemies out of line of sight is handy to have on at least 1 party member).

Oh and daggers work perfectly with cunning + lethality. Making your archer a duelist or bard (for Dueling stance or Song of Courage respectively) might be nice, as they both provide some Attack rating boosts, which is the only thing that hurts about having lower dex.

Or put 1 point in poisonmaking so you could use any poison.

Yes, it's true you lose out on defense by not taking dex (Dueling stance helps with this a bit if you get the 3rd talent in that line), but much like armor on a mage, it's more important that you keep your archer out of situations where defense is a factor than actually worry about the stat so much (but it's true having more doesn't hurt!). Liberal use of taunt on your tank is a good way to help offset this though.

And you're welcome. :)

Fair enough then. Cunning it is. ^_^

I do you combat tactics, but I too micro the team a lot so I suppose Survival? Would it be overkill to give Survival to Alistair and my PC?

I'll second this, especially if you are looking at Survival on both alistar and your PC - which doesn't hurt, but being able to use poisons on a dual-wielder is really nice and something I forgot to do when I made my warrior (fixed that on my rogue tho!).

I haven't been using poisons, but does only one point allow you to use them all?

To use them all, one point is all you need. To make them all, you will need to level it up (but you can use a party member like Leliana or Zev that you don't use as often to do that).

Yes, first tier poison making let's you use any tier poison.  It's really nice and I strongly sugggest it for just about every melee build since it comes in handy.  Being able to stun your opponents more often as a rogue or do extra damage as a warrior is helpful.

As for dex... you kind of need it.  The best longbow in the game requires 36 dex and I strongly recommend wielding it.  Don't bother with strength for armor because you can just wear the hardened/leather/inscribed Dalish armor which is fine for an archer until you get Wade's superior drakeskin which gives more armor than most medium armors in the game, and has a nice dex bonus and fatigue discount.

Other than that, everything should go into cunning.  So basically I'd put a 1/1 ratio into dex and cunning until dex is 30 then put the rest in cunning.  The fade and equipment bonus will easily get you the other 6 points.

Are they worth it? How often must they be applied?

Poisons last for 60 secs and yes, the damage boost is nice. Some have fancy effects like chances to stun, which make them all the more handy. I didn't use them too often on my rogue, but for bigger fights, especially bosses, they were nice to have.

Is Leliana your archer?

Yes, Leliana is my archer. I've stuck with the standard builds for each character pretty much.

I'm trying to weigh up whether I'd be bothered enough to keep coating my weapons and keep poisons around. =P

Hmm... well, worst case scenario, you will have a little less nature res earlier in the game if you take it (*oh noes!!!*), but if you are cruising along nicely as it is, then it's probably not something you really need to worry about. I only bothered carrying around a few select poisons n my Rogue, but Deathroot extract was nice, especially since you can make it by default.  But my warrior managed just fine without them.

And if Lel is your archer, just make sure you do her sidequest so you can get a good bow without paying 100+ gold.

coating is near instant if you have them on the hotbar. i used the common poisons i found or the simple deathroot ones to keep inventory space down.   besides poisons let you use the bombs too if i rem right.

you have to get 20 str anyway (15 from yourself + 5 from circle of magi plot) for wearing The Felon's Coat so beware.

Does having more poisons skills increase poisons damage at all, or does it only allow you to make them?

OK, I'll then put one point in Poison and put the rest in Survival. Thanks!
