I'm referring to the "Blood Magic: Let less health be consumed to power your abilities" bonus that items give you. Merill's unique abilities have a basis in blood magic lore wise, but none of them fall under the literal "Blood Magic" specialization tree.
Does that item bonus only effect the Blood Magic specialisation tree, or does it effect all blood magicish abilities?
Do "Blood Magic" item bonuses benefit Merill's unique abilities?

I'm 95 percent sure Merrill receives those benefits if she is using her blood magic abilities.

The items benefit Merrill as well.

Yes, but once you reach a 3:1 mana:health ratio any items that give the benefit will more than likely be out weighed by better items that don't carry the stat.
Basicly, once you have reached friendship with Merrill, her bonus will be everything you need to run her efficiently.
fyi, companion friendship/rivalry count as an ability point in that tree, which will reduce prerequisites ability cost to you.
